being an empathetic person is simultaneously the best and worst thing in the world. on one hand you’re very great at anticipating people’s needs, but on the other you start to feel as though it’s your responsibility to do so and that causes you to expend so much energy and feel guilty when you fail. you’re just born being a people pleaser. and that’s so much harder to shake off than if you people pleased just to get approval

it’s not your responsibility to read every sign and anticipate every cue and interpret every emotional response, just as it’s not their responsibility to do that for you. at the same time i feel like both parties need to put equal effort into communication, whether it be stating what you need clearly or being receptive to needs that are being clearly stated. that can be done through action or through words, it’s just a matter of making sure the method of communication is clear and not so subtle that it places too much expectation on the other person to interpret it in the intended way
