Welcome Home || Para 004

It was good to see her girlfriend back in her element. Working and running everything so smoothly. Although their vacation was beyond failed, she still had some small hope that they could get things back on track and soon.  Now Claire definitely had every reason to be pissed off. With their Hawaii vacation being crashed by Madison, Cassidy could tell that Claire hadn’t been happy since. They’d worked so hard together and apart to create this life for themselves and every chance  they had, something was slowly chipping away at their relationship. That definitely wasn’t something Cass wanted for them in a million years. If she had her way, all her friends would get along with the the woman she planned on spending her life on But that was too much like right? So there had to be some bullshit involved.

Pushing the door open Cass peaked her head in before stepping inside completely. Back at home they were just barely speaking. Claire was sleeping on the couch and the bed was very empty at night.  Cass understood why there was tension but she really wished that there wasn’t. She missed how they used to be before shit hit the fan. She missed Claire’s touch and she definitely missed the sex, quite frankly. Three whole weeks, that may have been a record for them. It was all work and no play.  “Hey, I wanted to come talk to you, I feel like we can’t even do that at home…please say you won’t be mad forever?”

"Have I ever been able to stay mad at that beautiful face?” Claire asked with a sigh as she looked up from the mail Jane had left on her her desk while they’d been in the meeting. “The answer is no if you have to think about it” She teased half-heartedly, as she ran a hand through her hair. Claire never gave up on anything, she’d been a worker and a fighter her entire life, and their relationship was no different to that. Madison was just starting to become a bigger challenge then she had ever anticipated. She couldn’t compete with the blonde. “Can we hire a hit on Blondie in there?” She was only half joking, but the executives had made it clear that if Claire hoped to continue being in charge and make the show a success then she’d have to find a way to get along with her. They’d never gotten along, never.

“She showed up and as always took you away from me, I’m sorry if I sound possessive but that vacation was supposed to be our time to reconnect and suddenly she’s knocking on our hotel door just like I predicted and i’m supposed to be okay with that? I fucking hate her, Cass. If I could have fired her and not been sued I would have.” Feeling tears spring to her eyes, Claire looked away, tugging at her fingers. “I’m used to being abandoned by friends, that’s happened all my life, but I don’t....I don’t want to wake up one morning and have you gone too, which I know sounds silly...” Emotions and Claire didn’t go well together, she always had the harder exterior. “I guess I just need to accept the fact that she’s in our lives and she’s not going to go anywhere, might as well give her the guest room.”

Welcome Home || Para 004

You would think after being on a two week vacation in paradise Claire would have come home and back to work more relaxed, tanned and all out just a much happier person then she’d gone. Instead she’d come home hungover, annoyed and in the need of her first Botox appointment. It was complicated. “Okay, so it’s looking like we’re going to have Shalaine Woodley on the show the week after next, we’re not sure how she’s feeling about guest hosting or not, but they want to promote the next season of Big Little Lies and they think she’ll be a better fit with all you” Claire rambled on during a weekly meeting between producers, execs and the cast. Just her usual work routine. “We tried to get Reese, but since Shay is younger she’ll probably fit with viewership better. You’ve got the fault in our stars fan-base so tune in is definite” Not bothering to pick her head up from her laptop screen, her finger went up the minute she heard Madison mumble something under her breath. “We’re getting who we’re getting Madison, if you don’t like it I suggest you try hosting another show.” Nothing had changed, only gotten worse between all of them. Not to mention she’d been sleeping on the couch since they’d gotten home.

Standing back up, she shut her laptop. “Contracts will be coming up in the next couple of weeks, with the option to renew. We went into this one year standard, if you’re feeling unsure about pay and all that nonsense, I’m going to send you straight to human resources since I know limited to nothing about it, the ratings are good, the renewals are in and it looks promising for the next five years, not something I’d walk away from, but to each her own. Filming resumes tomorrow so I’d be here early...” Not bothering to make eye contact with any of the girls, including her girlfriend, she picked up the stack of paperwork she’d brought with her a long with her laptop and headed for the door “And as always my door is open to questions, comments and concerns.”

Claire had never been the girl who let other people bring her down or put her relationships at risk, but Madison wasn’t just anyone. She was the plague. “Nice angry lesbian vibe, Claire” One of her co-producers called to her as she walked down the hall way towards her office “If I don’t have it and use it, who else will?” She called back with a fake laugh as she entered her office and dropped everything on the couch. “Jane do me a favor and call Dr. Glassmans office and reschedule my appointment for Friday afternoon, there’s no way I’ll be able to fit it in tomorrow” That had been the only good thing to result from the vacation, Claire had agreed to getting an assistant. Botox could wait another four days. “And Cass if you’re lurking outside the door, just come in, you’ve never been afraid to come in my office before, don’t start now.”

When something of value broke, instead of throwing it out, they put it back together with gold, that way not only was it whole again, but even more beautiful after the storm. Cassidy rolled her eyes. This definitely wasn’t how she wanted to spend her vacation. She didn’t want to sit here and argue about the same thing they always argued about. Cassidy was starting to resent the entire situation. “It hurts my head to even think about anymore.  Do we seriously need to argue about her all the time. Jesus!” Cassidy let out a frustrated sigh. Her little buzz had definitely gone away. She returned to the balcony to get some fresh air. Leaning over the railing she closed her eyes, as she remembered when she and Claire first became a thing. Everything was so much more simpler back then. 

Now everything always stayed complicated. She understood some of Claire’s concerns but when did spending all your energy hating one person become a healthy mechanism. Neither one of the girls were going anywhere so she didn’t see why they couldn’t just get along for her sake. They were both very important to her and weather Claire understood that or not, Madison was practically like her sister. Yes she could be a heartless bitch sometimes, but Cassidy also knew her heart, her real one and she wasn’t a malicious person. She just wished Claire could see what she did. But of course Madison didn’t make it easy either. At this point, it was a lose lose situation.

“If she didn’t butt her blonde head into every little thing that concerns us, maybe I wouldn’t have to bring it up so much! Maybe it wouldn’t be so obvious that we’re not friends, we’re never going to be friends, and if it wasn’t for you neither would be in each others lives!” It was harsh, but what Claire really wanted was for Cass to just take a side for once. She could understand if Cass picked Madison and gave reasoning behind it, or if she’d picked herself, but this was just an on going battle going back and forth for to long, and eventually it would need to be solved.

They were never going to get along, they were never going to be friends, and somehow they’d managed to ruin a vacation before it’d even started. Stripping down into a pair of leggings and tank, Claire popped her head outside the balcony, she needed air before she said something she regretted or gave Cass reason to call up the jet and send them back home. “...I’m going for a run, I’ll be back.”

Maui Here We Come || Para 003

Cassidy knew she sort of deserved that look Claire was giving her but she’d feel bad if she didn’t at least let her best friend know that she was alive. Madison could get a little crazy sometimes and she didn’t want any red alarms being set off when she could alleviate all of that just by answering a quick call. “You know how she get’s, It was just a quick hello. I’m still all yours babe.” Before being with Claire, Madison and Cassidy were inseparable. They literally did everything together, but these last few years things had changed so much. For Cassidy it was a breath of fresh air. But for Madison it was a hard pill to swallow. She hadn’t always been the epitome of beauty as she was today. 

She also wasn’t always a size two. In fact up until Freshman year of high school Madison wasn’t necessarily the girl who got asked out on dates. Cassidy didn’t care about that, their mothers kept the knit close. She was pretty much like her sister…to an extent. Well that was until she went away the summer before high school and came home a totally new person. Half the person she was, pun intended. With Cassidy’s style tips, she quickly became a regular old Regina George. Cassidy and Madison’s friendship blossomed, and continued to grow into more. Soon sleepovers turned into many late night makeout sessions. They never made a relationship out of it, Cassidy could never really see it. Plus she was too busy partying and having fun. Fast forward a few years into college, she falls for Claire and it didn’t seem like Madison ever really got over it. “No more phone calls, I promise.” she gave an innocent smile.

“Even on vacation you defend her, she’ll show up on our honeymoon and you’d be okay with it too.” Claire and Madison had never seen eye to eye, even back at UCLA. Claire was driven, focused, constantly planning a new show, concept, whatever was asked of her from professors, she worked day in and day out to achieve what she had, where as Madison would flash a pretty smile and have whatever it was handed to her. There had been far to many group projects where Madison had floated by just by showing up, how someone as pure and wonderful as Cassidy saw a friendship with her was beyond Claire. To Claire she was nothing more then a user, a fame whore, someone who didn’t know the definition of hard work. 

“You say that, but give it forty-five minutes and she’ll be calling to tell you some amazing news that could otherwise wait until never to be told” Rolling her eyes, Claire walked over to their suitcases, beginning to unpack. She couldn’t ask Cassidy to choose between them, but god how she wished she could. “Hell she’s probably on the phone right now with the executives telling them I’ve had a nervous breakdown and I’m rehab, if you don’t think she’s working to get me fired you’re crazy babe. Manipulative bitch.” So Claire was a little bit paranoid, she had her reasons.
