Day 10: Practice Makes Perfect
If you've stuck with me this long, then I'd like to congratulate everyone on completing a third of the challenge! Reward yourself with some good good self lovin'.
These past few days I've been sketching and doodling a bunch to refine my drawing skills. And I've noticed something: the more consistently I practice, the more naturally the strokes of my pencil and paint brushes come. It's almost like my hand is on cruise control!
Just like anything in life, the more you put yourself out there, pop your personal bubble by taking another step outside of your comfort zone, the easier each consequent step will be.
The beginning is hard, because you're forming a new habit, but that's why I'm here! With a good support system at school, work, whether you confide in friends or family, is essential to succeeding. Thankfully I am surrounded by people who believe in me and encourage me to pursue my dreams and goals.
"An ounce of practice is worth more than tons of preaching." - Mahatma Gandhi
Day 9 & 10: Stay Persistent
When you set a goal for yourself, stay persistent. Don't make excuses for not finishing what you started, because at the end of the day, you are your only limitation.
In my own life, that plays out in missing an entry for the 31 day challenge while getting caught up in Thanksgiving festivities. Yes, I could blame it on the turkey, but truth is, I kept thinking to myself all day to take five to ten minutes to write an entry, but I always found an excuse to do something else.
Also, I've always been involved with art and painting. Around a year ago, I started thinking of starting up a nonprofit that would focus on using art, specifically street art as a means to remedy urban blight and gang violence in under-served neighborhoods. I would always think about finally starting it, but never really put my 100% into it.
The tides are changing and I'm setting sail! Not only did I finally get my online business, Urban Piece Bombs, set up along with its Facebook & Twitter pages, but I also started learning and practicing new techniques, as well as confirmed my first painting order!!
Just like painting or anything else in life, the more persistence and patience you practice with details and your brush, the more beautiful and breathtaking the outcome will be. I find it helps to surround yourself with people who will inspire you or keep you on your toes every now and then when you lose focus.
Keep doing what you do!
"Achievement is not always success, while reputed failure often is. It is honest endeavor, persistent effort to do the best possible under any and all circumstances." - Orison Swett Marden
Day 8: Don't Talk About it, Be About It
People spend WAY too much time complaining about everything that sucks in their lives. Like why they're bored, why things aren't going the right way, why life isn't fair, why somebody is more successful than you, why the sky is blue,...blah blah blah.
Stop talking about what you're going to do, and start to do it!!
Turn all your complaints into I N S P I R A T I O N.
