“Be the one who nurtures and builds. Be the one who has an understanding and forgiving heart. Be the one who looks for the best in people. Leave people better than you found them.”
— Marvin J.Ashton
Don’t bother about freedom. First, see that you are in prison: the social prison, economic prison, political prison, religious prison, the prison which you have created yourself out of your desire, ambition, fears and pleasures. When you understand your prison, the prison that thought collectively and individually has created, the prison of our confusion, misery and suffering, when you understand that, look at it, go into it, see the structure and the nature of it, then out of that comes freedom. Then it is not a reward. One who is seeking a reward is never free.

But don’t forget who you really are. And I’m not talking about your so-called real name. All names are made up by someone else, even the one your parents gave you. You know who you really are. When you’re alone at night, looking up at the stars, or maybe lying in your bed in total darkness, you know that nameless person inside you.

The Digital Museum: Wong Kar Wai’s Influences on Moonlight (2016)
Barry Jenkin’s Academy Award Winning Moonlight (2016) ventures into the three chapters of self discovery and sexuality stretching from early adolescence to adulthood of main character Chiron. Jenkin’s captures the cinematic picture with heed hindsight into the mesmerizing cinematography techniques and styles to that of Wong Kar Wai. The relationship of both directors ties into their vision in the uses of frames-within-frames, excessive use of saturated lighting, shaky camera work, long takes of character’s behinds, etc. Moonlight’s hypnotizing picture venerates Kar Wai’s Chungking Express (1994), Days of Being Wild (1990), Happy Together (1997), and In the Mood for Love (2000).

What are you seeking, where are you heading? What is your true mind, what is your true life? Everything is already perfect, every moment is complete. When you are no longer seeking, it’s right there in front of you.
