14. My muse left yours, promising it would be only for a couple of minutes. They come back in a couple of years.

It had ben nearly 5 years since Hijikata left his lover for reasons that were not entirely within his control, and now he was standing at the bottom of the driveway, wearing a military uniform as he looked up towards a house that he never thought he would see again. 

He took a deep breath and walked towards the door, slowly turning the doorknob as he opened it before announcing that he was home.

Souchin was in the middle of attempting to make a meal for himself when he heard the door open. Kondo-san wasn’t suppose to be visiting him today and the two children were at school. So who the hell was coming into his house so freely. Grabbing a knife out of the drawer next to him, he walked towards the doorway of the kitchen and brought the weapon close against himself. Then he heard the voice...  The knife dropped to the floor. No... No... It couldn’t be... Souchin peaked around the entrance way and saw Toshirou removing his shoes at the entry way. “To-Toshi?” He muttered before feeling his chest tighten and a cough coming forth.

Normally Hijikata would leave the male alone when he wanted to be but the elder man was starting to get worried with the noises coming from his room. It took him almost a week before he was able to successfully pick the lock and he slowly opened the door. "Soji? Are you okay?" He asked as he looked around.

“Toshi, Am I... I don’t know anymore...” Souji spoke softly while holding onto a cat plushie of his.It had been a week since they had found out about Kondo’s passing. Souji didn’t want to hear it, any of it. He had locked himself away and would only come out when he knew Toshi would have been sleeping so he could eat; If he could keep it down that is.
