In my bones

I have my mothers need for love

and my fathers anger

and maybe that’s why when you put me down and step on me,

my soul fills with silvery flames

And my emotions turn violent

But as my mother and father fight for the upper hand

I crave that broken love so deeply in my bones,

I sink to the ground and lie down,

and let you crush me.

To me, there’s nothing more beautiful than life through a broken lens

To appreciate the ugly, dark, honest version of life

To sympathize with

the light being swallowed by the darkness

the slow death of leaves in fall

the way two loveless lovers sit in silence

a fake smile and empty eyes

It takes certain people and certain lives

To see a beauty in dying.

My mother and I are broken mirrors of one another.

One in the same yet completely opposite.

She has become everyone I never want to be

And I have become everything she could never be.

Maybe this is why as much as you love me,

You look at me and grieve the life you wished you lived.

You place these burdens on my shoulders and

expect me not to collapse under the weight of your regrets.
