Let's ambush mama! 😼
"Why do Pallas cats always look grumpy?"
"Pallas kittens."
The sheer roundness of this kitten must be admired.
It looks cute, right? But wait, what's that?
Yup. AI watermark. Traces back to this Facebook page which posts nothing except for AI images of manul/Pallas cats (plus a couple of videos of domestic cats). The original post is here.
Here are some real images of this animal. They're not as dramatic, but they are the real thing.
If you want to see real baby manul/Pallas cat kittens, and you don't mind a trip to the Quad Cities... Niabi Zoo just had a litter!
Niabi Zoo is proud to welcome one of only two litters of Pallas’s Cats born in North America since 2024. Donate today to create more success
Let's be photographic representations of real animals with mama
the generated image can't compare to the real beauty of nature
You think that one is good, look at this thing:

Finding out AI companies are chewing through - literally, they’re pulping and burning them as they go - millions of books often including 1/1s and old texts that cannot be reprinted
Meanwhile there’s always some dipshit telling me AI is the future and we’ve got to just let companies erase human history and literature so they can train their abomination machines to pretend to think like people because a judge said it’s fine
AI companies are buying and scanning printed books for training data, raising copyright and cultural preservation concerns as rare volumes a
what. the ACTUAL FUCK THIS IS A DYSTOPIA SOMEBODY WAKE ME UP
if u are still an active ai user. pls get off my blog
This is likely misinformative rage bait. Anthropic is buying mostly from used book wholesalers, who sell mostly books that are not that rare/valuable really. Old books are thrown away all the time, and using them to train AI on their way out seems honestly fine (possibly even good if it means the books get archived digitally before they go). As for old texts that can't be reprinted/rare books, that includes books like manuals for obsolete technology, or other books that are clearly not very valuable otherwise. It is still possible that some more genuinely valuable old copies are being destroyed (from the research I did it's unlikely given anthropics sources, but given we don't have very specific info about what books are being bought it's hard to say for certain). But the vast majority of these books are very likely not worth much/basically already garbage, and digitizing them/using them for AI on their way out seems fine actually.
the idea that used book shops dont have anything of value is insane. You are clearly talking about monetary value but the value of a book no longer in print and thus no longer being sold new is in the book itself being preserved. Destroying rare books no longer in print is WORSE than destroying newer books. The actual imsge says they are destroying rare books and books where that is the only copy. And they dont even have to destroy the books! They could do it slower, like the internet archive does.
And even if they were only doing this to worthless books stopping the usage and promotion of ai is incredibly important for many many reasons. The data in those books will require massive data centers and huge ammounts of water to train new ais. Destroying the books could be beneficial and it would be important to stop this in order to hinder the growth of ai.
