so in game we see red little souls that Reaper feeds on to regain strength and health right? but its been shown that Reaper literally eats the organic material off of their bodies, siphoning off anything that’d bring nutrient and fuel to his nanites.  so my theory is that the “Soul” we see is just Reyes dissociating slightly, instead of coping with the idea of literal cannibalism, he sees it as a more traditional Grim Reaper way of killing someone. thus envisioning the soul above them. alternatively that soul could be the organic material pooling above the body as it slowly dissolves due to stray nanites preparing a meal.
