Hero Fiennes Tiffin as Tom Riddle in Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince (2009) dir. David Yates

her brows furrow somewhat as she takes in her surroundings, head tilting in curiosity as she runs a finger along a shelf edge. “ i think i’m in the wrong place. ” she mused aloud, looking around for someone who might be able to help her discover where she’d ended up.
the words catch tom’s attention as he’s stocking one of the glass cabinets. carefully, he puts the vials in their intended places, locking the cabinet door to make sure no little or unworthy hands grope the special potions. ❝ you are definitely in the wrong place, ❞ tom greets, gaze falling upon the other with playful amusement. she certainly doesn’t fit with the usual bunch of characters they get in store, but he knows everyone who walks in needs something they stock in their life ( even if they themselves don’t know it yet ), and he’ll be damned if he lets one leave without making a sale. ❝ but since you’re here, you should have a look around. we’ve been getting interesting items in all week. surely something will catch your eye? ❞

MOUTH GAPE OPEN as she thinks of something witty to say. why not you, lizzie? words ring on her mind as she tries to come up with a good argument, but she comes with nothing. she is skilled and a slytherin and it doesn’t seem he trust anyone outside this house (full of blood purist mind you but they are loyal) and they gave lizzie a home outside of her own. “well, most people go for Josie.” sweet, gentle, caring Josie who would do anything for anyone if it meant staying on their good side. lizzie loves her twin but they couldn’t be anymore different. but one thing she knows for sure; most people prefer josie. (she too prefers her sister over her but she would never say it).
but she eyes down the book, content forbidden for the students and she knew she had to do it, out of sheer power of letting him know she could. let everyone know she wasn’t a coward, and curiosity was her biggest sin or, better, greed. she is always wanting to know more about witches, her own past and magic, magic that they don’t allow the school to teach because it was dangerous. not for them, but for humanity. the thing is, she doesn’t know she even cares about them outside her father. “you are a bad influence, tom. my father would shrink if he knew i’m hanging with you.” or doing your bidding. god. but if lizzie was known for one thing in the school was this; SHE IS ALWAYS FOLLOWING THE BAD IDEAS. a frown on her forehead last only a minute as she moves closer, taking a seat beside him, though leaving some room between them. dangerous.
and then, she clears her throat, a shrug over her shoulders as she leans over the book. “maybe just a peak. i mean, I did got into so much trouble for it.” maybe she could find something about her bloodline. but this wasn’t about her, it was about him. “why did you wanted it, anyway?”
tom was perhaps one of the few at school who didn’t care for josie. not that he cares for many, but certainly not the twin sister of his present company. josie is weaker willed, a stickler for the rules, and tom finds it difficult to trust someone who so easily needs the approval and acceptance of her peers. lizzie, on the other hand, has a backbone. she’s worth having on his side, especially with all he plans for the months ahead.
arms position to give her a better look at the book, tom’s dark gaze washing over the contents on the introduction page but not truly taking them in. sure, the book is worth having in his posession and will make a good read when he’s bored, but he doesn’t need to read it. it was, quite simply, a test of lizzie’s loyalty. will she pass by risking her own education at the school by getting him the book? or fail by standing up against him and earning his contempt? he certainly had wondered which it would be, but with her beside him and the book in his grasp, there is now no doubt of her fealty to him.
❝ i wanted it to satisfy my own curiosity, i suppose. ❞ a dangerously wild glance is directed her way, searching lizzie’s expression for evidence that she is as willing to pursue this forbidden knowledge as he is. a smile pinches at his lips, thick brows rising as his questions direct her way, ❝ i take it you’re down for reading it then? or you’d have told me to piss of by now. ❞ he shuffles his position, closing the intentional gap between them as his voice lowers to a whisper, ❝ just don’t tell your father. we don’t want him shrinking himself into non-existence, do we? ❞

@soulspliced gets an aesthetic: TOM RIDDLE & LIZZIE SALTZMAN. “by the time she realised what was happening, she was far too deep to get away from him.“
REQUESTS SERIES: Tom Marvolo Riddle/ Lord Voldemort | Requested by castieladrift
“When I first met young Mr. Riddle, he was a quiet albeit brilliant boy, committed to becoming a first rate wizard. Not unlike others I’ve known… If the monster existed it was buried deep within.”
tom remains on his seat, drowning out the excitable voices of his peers packing up as he focuses on finishing his work with quiet intent. it’s neccessary to be careful here. of all the places in school, this classroom posesses the most danger. not because of the subject and the spells being taught, but because of the teacher that commands it. albus dumbledore. perhaps the only one with the clear vision to see through the misty charm tom has cast upon the rest of the faculty and students. a shame, really, that the professor is so hard to conquer, for there is nobody greater that tom would care to hear the personal wisdom of. yes, it has been many years and he is no closer to gaining the favour of dumbledore now than he was all those years past in the confinement of his orphanage room, but still he must try.
❝ do you mind if i finish this piece of work here, sir? ❞ his question echoes around the room as the last of his classmates leave. inky eyes widen as a small smile pinches at tom’s lips, ❝ i’d do it in the common room but it gets particularly spirited on a friday afternoon, especially with the excitement of tomorrow’s quidditch game -- will you be going to watch it, sir? ❞

continues from this for soulspliced
“i’m not one of your lackeys, riddle.”she had seen them around, they follow him around like lost puppies, everyone thinks it’s natural, boys will be boys, but lizzie isn’t stupid, it’s strange, just as much as a mystery tom himself is to everyone, they know nothing of him besides him being incredibly smart and an orphan. BUT HE IS RIGHT.she is here, just as he told her to be it unsettles her really, how easy it seems to follow him. blue gaze flickers under the darkness of his own and she shifts her weight, uncomfortable. “it’s lizzie.” elizabeth might as well be as plain as english names go. she pulls the book from her bag, looking around as no one was paying attention to them. “this better be worth it. i’m risking my neck, if Dumbledore or the headmaster finds out I did this ”she would be expelled. these books were forbidden to them for a reason. and yet, she did it, quie easily in fact. but still, she needs tom to know it’s dangerous. “i’m sure you could’ve done this on your own. why send me?”
tom shrugs his shoulders, downplaying the severity of the position he has put lizzie in in order to get his hands on this book. in truth, he would have retrieved the book himself, not truly trusting it in the hands of anyone who might not understand its contents or misinterpret his reason for pursuing it. but as of late he has been under the sharp gaze of professor dumbledore himself, more suspicious and mistrusting than ever before. and so tom must exercise caution, careful not to implicate himself or make his intentions apparent. it’s times like this that he’s glad he has his group of friends he can so easily lean upon to do his bidding for him.
❝ why not you, lizzie? ❞ tom asks, wild eyes challenging her comfortably from his seat on the common room couch. she is, from what he’s seen, perfectly capable with magic and a more than adequate friend. and of all his close relationships formed at hogwarts, he knew that she would not be the one to fail. stubbornness, perhaps, or a need to impress him, he’s not sure. but certainly she has succeeded and for that he makes a mental note to keep her on side, win her over should the need for her daring arise again. ❝ come, ❞ he softly pats the space on the couch beside him, head tilting ever so slightly as the corner of his lips rise into a smile, ❝ doesn’t the idea of reading a forbidden book excite you? ❞
“I know this might be a little weird for you, but I promise it’s all normal.” (from grisha!)
SENTENCE MEME.
jaw tightens at her words, chest rising just to fall with the small sigh that escapes from between tom’s pouting lips. it’s not that he finds this situation weird, as that he can surely overcome and adapt to with patience and effort. no, this is beyond weird. it’s unnatural. for once, tom is aware that all his knowledge, carefully acquired and stored, has failed him. had he been alone, this would not be so bad, but here, in the company of one such as grisha, his inadequacy magnifies.
❝ normal, ❞ tom repeats, allowing his eyes to fall upon her and seemingly accept defeat this time. a smile, fleeting and forced, touches upon his lips as heavy arms cross against his casually dressed torso, ❝ since you’re such an expert, perhaps you can direct some of that wisdom my way? we have got an entire saturday to do nothing, after all. ❞
@aefintyr
“It was a SYMBOLIC way of showing that [Tom] came from a loveless union – but of course, everything would have changed if Merope had survived and raised him herself and loved him.” - JK Rowling
this actually hurts my heart, the idea that tom could have been relatively normal and lived a happy life had merope survived and cared for him. so many of the fandom believe that tom could never love because he was conceived under the effects of a love potion but jk herself says that this isn’t true and that it was merely symbolism and not a confirmed side effect of a love potion. but truly, he didn’t love because he didn’t know how to, he had never been shown love before, and that just kills me???
“You don’t just get to call me and tell me what to do.”
SENTENCE MEME.
❝ and yet you’re here, ❞ tom quietly replies, gaze still focused sharply upon the book in his grasp. allowing himself to finish the paragraph he has been obsessively studying for the past hour, the room fills with silence as lizzie is left to stand in the doorway and wait for him. he reads it over thrice more until satisfied with his own interpretation of its meaning, and thus the book is shut and discarded with a careless thud upon the side table. dark hues flicker to meet lizzie’s as a small smile is directed her way, ❝ tell me, elizabeth, did you bring what i asked? ❞

- Tom Marvolo Riddle
consider this a STARTER CALL.
all starters will be random but if you’re interested in plotting something out then feel free to hit up my ims !
i know by the time he was old enough to go to hogwarts tom had already done some terrible things, but the idea of him going to diagon alley and then platform 9 ¾ by himself just breaks my heart. him not knowing where to start at first, how the money works, and being overwhelmed by seeing everyone else with their families all excited and making a celebration of it. and then this voice in his head just tells him that if he doesn’t do this for himself then nobody else will do it for him, and that he doesn’t have time to feel sorry for himself when there is work to be done.
