Dubstep Gun #5: Death Metal (Long Version)
I may as well post this now since I’ve actually finished making it. I was initially going to post some other stuff first, but there’s no point in just letting this video sit there doing nothing.

Dubstep Gun #5: Death Metal (Long Version)

Make It Bun Dem
The music from one of the more fun missions in Far Cry 3.
In my last upload I hesitated saying very much because what I was thinking of saying seemed rather redundant. Plus I didn’t really have an eloquent way of expressing my thoughts. I’m just going to say it - Experiencing the music in the game is very different from experiencing the music by itself... See! redundant.
As redundant as it may be, it’s a testament to the music choice and the design of the mission. While some music is just enjoyable background noise and doesn’t have much to do with what you are doing in-game, tracks like this one and “A Beautiful Song” from Nier Automata are, or at least seem to be very deliberate and specific.
A Beautiful Song
Since I haven’t been here for a while I thought I’d post something epic (imo.)
I don’t feel like I have to say much more, the title is pretty descriptive.
Edit: A certain part of this song always reminds me of the opening to Elfen Lied.
Haven’t been here for a while...
...and I can’t say that I’ll be on here very regularly in the future. I will keep posting every now and then, but I need to concentrate more on my art, as I have been during my absence.
The reason I initially dropped off (Aside from a hard drive malfunction) was because I started making lots of videos for the music I planned to upload and it was taking up too much of my time, and when I say “making videos” I’m not just talking about the ones with a static image and the music. I’m talking about videos where I capture gameplay and then edit it in such a way that it matches up (somewhat) with the music. I was also making an animated video with assets I made specificly for some music I planned to upload. It was nothing major but it was time I could have spent doing something more fulfilling and perhaps more advantageous to me in the future.
TL;DR: Was spending all my time on one thing. Needed to chill out and focus on other things.
Technical Difficulties
Normal service will resume shortly.
Access The Animus
I really like the build up which has an air of mystery about it, and continues like that for around six minutes and fifty seconds before my favourite part of the track begins; That being the music that plays in game when you are being pursued by the guards, after, more than likely, getting a bit carried away with throwing those annoying women down the steps and assassinating basicly anyone who gets in your way, with your hidden blade, because it makes a cool sound…
It can’t be just me who heard it… right?… It’s been a while, but I distinctly remember a kind of impact sound accompanied by a SHINNNGGG!!!

21st Century Scoundrels
The gameplay footage for this video was recorded almost two years ago, and now seemed a perfect time to actually do what I originally intended to do with it.
It’s a very fun track whether you’re owning or getting owned.
I might have to get back into TF one day, but it’s a bit of a time vampire.
I have found the soundtrack on Archive.org, but I’m not sure of the legitimacy of it being there so I wont paste any links to it, but you can take that information and do with it what you will.
You can check out the person behind the soundtrack here.
Sonic 2 - Final Boss Theme
I was going to go for the obvious one. I wont say which one that is… because it’s obvious… I suppose you might have thought I meant Metropolis Zone.
This is a great Boss battle theme; It has a real sense of urgency. It’s like the music grabs you and shakes you and yells at you, “QUIT FUCKING AROUND, THIS SHIT’S FOR REAL!…” But a lot more eloquently than in my example.
I’d love to see/hear a full orchestral rendition of this music. It may exist but I didn’t find it in the five minutes I looked for it.
I did find this...

BACK TO THE 1946
One of those examples of when the music really suits the game. I should have done an actual gameplay video to demonstrate that point, but there are two reasons I haven’t. [1] I’m currently working on 2 other videos and [2] It’s been a while and I’m nowhere near as good at this particular zone as I used to be. It would be be embarrassing if I uploaded a video of me smashing into every single obstacle as I did the first time I replayed it. The second time wasn’t quite as bad, but I used to take a little bit of pride in the fact I was pretty good at it, but then I did used to play Omega Boost an awful lot.
Apparently getting back into the “zone” is not so much like riding a bike as it is like riding a bike with two buckled wheels.
Don’t get me wrong though; It’s totally my problem and I still love the game and the level itself. I just wish I could experience it the way I used to. There’s nothing better than hearing the music and hitting all the right notes in terms of your gameplay. It’s that feeling of everything coming together.
4/16
There are some licensed tracks in games that you only end up liking due to experiencing them in the game, but that is not the case here.
I’ve always had a fondness for songs and music with some kind of build up from quiet to loud, or minimal to… maximal… Look; I didn’t want to think too much about this, besides, it turns out that maximal is an actual word. So not only am I providing you with great video game music, I’m also educating you… and myself.
This was my favourite song for a long time. I actually bought the album (Love Is Worth It) at the time. There were some other decent songs on it, but in my opinion 4/16 was still the stand out song.
Enjoy!
I thought I may as well make a video since I could.

Just a short video I threw together.
Punish The Wicked Merchant
This post started as a YouTube comment, but I started rambling, and this is what came out…
I’d like a HD Tenchu: Stealth Assassins, with refined controls and much, much better draw distance. I felt like it was such a unique game for its time with the loadout screen and all different tools you could use, like the caltrops, smoke bombs, poison rice and much more, not to mention my favourite - the grapple, with which you could pull yourself up onto ledges, or roofs to stalk or hide. There was a chi meter, which was an interesting idea, which enabled you to tell how close or far away an enemy or civilian was, but good luck with working that out if you have 3 persons in the same vicinity, all walking back and forth in different directions. There were stealth kills and it was always very satisfying getting a one shot on someone, but in my opinion the actual combat wasn’t great as a result of the controls being kind of sluggish. I would’ve hoped for something a little more fluid. Also, sometimes in boss battles the camera would have a shit fit and jump around all over the place ‘To me, to you, to me, to you…’ It’s like they handed the camera controls over to the chuckle brothers. Anyway, back to Tenchu; Despite how bad my criticisms may have made it sound I really enjoyed the game, and I go back every now and then, and play a few levels. That music on the first level always hooks me in… for a while… then I remember… To be critical again, just for a moment, I don’t know if it’s just me, but it feels like the difficulty really ramps up when the demons appear in the later levels. It doesn’t feel like a natural escalation. It’s like “NOW THERE’S DEMONS BITCH, AND YOU WONT DETECT THEM UNTIL IT’S TOO LATE. DEAL WITH IT!” … and after a near perfect play through up to that point with predominantly “Grand Master” and some “Master Ninja” ratings on every previous level, it’s a bit of a kick in the nuts. I’ll try again one day, because as I’ve said, despite any criticisms I have of the game, I love it.
Spyro: A Hero's Tail - Shooting Game (Critter Calamity)
I’ve recently got PCSX2 working on my computer (If it wasn’t already obvious) and I’d forgotten how much I liked this tune.
The Battle of Lil' Slugger
I think this has to be one of the best boss battle themes ever. I expect by this point Super Meat Boy is viewed as old news, but this track, man, it never gets old. I’m currently using it as a ringtone. It’s also good for a speedy drawing session. I’m not saying the results are always going to be good, but it’s a fun time while it lasts.
Once again this is legitimately one of my favourite tracks at the moment, and I mean out of all the music I listen to, not just video game soundtracks.
Love it, love it, LOVE IT!!!! <33333
Welcome
This is a revival of my old Tumblr of the same name. Don’t go there it’s a mess. It was always a mess. Starting with the fact that my avatar and cover had absolutely nothing to do with gaming. It eventually got to the point it’s a now with broken links all over the place etc. That’s why I abandoned it a long time ago, but during that time I’ve been thinking about restarting it somewhere else and perhaps using a different format (I used to mostly use mp3 links, but they always ended up breaking.)
I think the final straw was when I made a Submerged (slideshow) video with some music from the game and it got a copyright strike.
When it comes to IP and YouTube, UMG apparently have a pretty bad reputation, but the worst they’ve ever done (to me) is (1) banned the video everywhere (Which sucks, but whatever) and (2) Allowed me use the song and monetised my video themselves (Which is fine; Just let me make my Game Music Blog/Tumblr and leave my YouTube channel alone.)
Fuck!... I got into all that shit and forgot to talk about how I was planning on doing things... Well, the plan is to alternate between old and new posts.
Old posts from the original “A Padded Cell″ will be posted in their entirety with no changes or edits to any accompanying text, but I will be using YouTube as the delivery method for the music.
New posts will be things I had planned previously, some things I have in mind now, or maybe things I haven’t even heard at the time of writing this, and of course, the music will also be delivered via YouTube.
Edit: I forgot to mention that all but one of the old (game music) posts (specificly - no more game music “and stuff”) will be posted in the same order as they were previously, but I thought it only made sense to start this revival with its namesake (A Padded Cell.)
THE END
I wasn’t going to post this video here as it was meant for something else, but that was so long and boring and whiny, I think we both deserve a break.
Think of it as a Bonus Track.
Atreyu - Right Side Of The Bed (Burnout 3 Takedown) (PCSX2)
Heard That Sound
A Padded Cell
For a little while now I’ve been in a bit of a nostalgic mood; I say “a bit” because I’ve only really been focusing on a certain period of time, and area of interest, and that is the video game music that had an affect on me during the PS1 & PS2 days.
I’ve been listening to the Ratchet & Clank OST and some of the Rayman 2: The Great Escape OST recently, which has lead to me thinking “So what else did I like back then?” …and there was one track from MDK that always stood out to me because it was so delightfully quirky and weird, but well suited to the colourful area for which it provided a fittingly maniacal backing track.
In my head I used to think of the level as “The Play Room,” but I think it was actually called “The Nursery.” Close enough, I guess, and probably indicative of how much I enjoyed “playing” in that area. I think the music was a huge contributing factor to how much I enjoyed it. It’s basicly clown music and killing; What more could I ask for?
I love the way the tune starts; It immediately lets you know what you’re in for.
