⊗ ; ◤ It’s not like he wasn’t glad to see her- hell, it made him feel a lot better knowing that she was safe and not stuck in some fight alone and without him to fight with. But… it seriously pissed him off that these big-headed Scientist guys would drag her into this crazy city too.
“Remedial… mission…..?”
Eyebrows quirked and exasperation hit him like a ton of bricks. Of course his teacher’s pet of a Meister would think this was some kind of trick by Shinigami-sama!
Shaking his head with a sigh that was somewhere between relief and frustration, he let go of her sleeve and shoved his hands into his jacket’s pockets. She really was oblivious sometimes.
“Tch, just like you, Maka. Always the bookworm, and always worried about school.” He chuckled, lifting his eyes back to hers. Yeah he was angry they trapped her here too, but at least they were together. It set his soul at ease.
“As far as I can tell, this isn’t some special lesson or mission. I’ve been here a day or two and trust me- this place is pretty messed up. But… well, it’s not as bad as you are the morning after you’ve stayed up all night studying.” Soul snickered when he finished. It wasn’t entirely true, but he didn’t want to freak her out so soon after arriving. ◢
"Jeeze, Soul..."
Maka gave him a look somewhere between irritation and horror. She should have known full well he was just gonna make fun of her for assuming every trial in their lives up to that point would involve school, but... Still.
"It's not like I'm that bad! You should actually try studying, for once," she spat back, somewhat playfully.
It would be easier for them to bicker, to make light of their current situation. As it stood, neither of them had any idea what was going on, and Maka's guess was as good as any. It would definitely be more convenient to believe the whole ordeal would be set up by Shibusen to test their skills. Still, Soul had a point in rejecting that line of thought. Something certainly seemed... off about it. Sighing just so, she dismissed the thought with a wave of her hand.
"Well... Guess it doesn't matter now, does it? Just gotta figure out what we're gonna do from here," came her second reply, giving her partner a small smile."Any ideas?"
