Spring is exploding right now and I feel so in love with my town lately, the state of Washington, so many beautiful flowers and trees, birds singing all day, frogs and crickets and owls at night. I’m remembering why I moved here, remembering why I believed I could have a future here. My life is still far from feeling settled but spring is so hopeful and healing. The way residential neighborhoods here take me back in time, to working class Seattle neighborhoods before so much of the city was torn down to build hideous condos, when there were still vacant lots with chain link fences, grannies with fixed incomes would paint their little 1 bedroom houses pink and decorate with birdbaths, wind chimes and tacky lawn ornaments. The future is boring, utilitarian, and cheaply made.
