It’s hard to be offended when white people jokes involve bland food/tourist dads in socks and sandals/white girls in yoga pants obsessed with pumpkin spice/suburban PTA moms and other harmless and mostly true stereotypes while jokes about POC involve them being called thugs/criminals/slurs/uneducated/illegal immigrants.

bc like you know when you’re just doing your life and being you and following your heart and someone you admire goes out of their way to validate you?? I was in class last night and our guest speakers were Narda Zacchino, an amazingly accomplished journalist and publisher who also happens to be married to my professor, as well as Dan Gordon, an assembly district delegate for the California Democratic Party. They were both incredible people to meet, and on top of that they were both so kind to me. Narda told me she was impressed I was going into public health and that she thought it was really selfless work, and that praise is keeping me moving.

Too often, USC feels like a discouraging place to be for someone who wants to work in political advocacy – most everyone here goes into corporate work for huge companies, so these kinds of moments are amazing reminders that I’m on a good path =)))
