Fr how is this blog not more popular⦠anyways I have something else to say! Another more popular opinion maybe, but I wanna address it too.
Some haters of South Parkās justification for hating it is the content. We ALL know South Park is known for being offensive, thatās literally its entire purpose. Crude humor, shock value, the like. But hereās the controversial part: youāre too sensitive if you canāt handle it. I mean, people act like South Park targets specific groups, but nobodyās safe in the end. They make fun of every type of person.
Since South Park is known to have this outer shell of crassness a lot of people fail to see past, theyāre missing that South Park can have lessons and good messages between the lines (even up front) and is an honest show. I mean the fact that they of all shows have better goth representation than so much other media is kinda embarrassing. Hell, the fucking Tourette Association of America came out and said their depiction of Touretteās was well-researched and could raise public awareness about it. South Park can be serious, even if itās hard to tell.Ā
Youāre Getting Old was a great depiction of depression, as someone who has struggled with it for years, whether intentional or not. People who claim South Park is homophobic obviously donāt know that Creek was canonized, or about Big Gay Al or Mr. Garrison. Racism and other forms of discrimination is handled surprisingly wellā With Apologies to Jesse Jackson episode, Kyle being able to stand up for himself against Cartman and such. I mean, hello, Wendy?? Sheās kinda such a big activist over here, definitely feminist. Ableism is laughable too, considering Jimmy and Timmy can just chill and nobody really comments on itā plus the whole thing with Timmy in a band, and Jimmyās stand-up comedy. Assburgers was fun to watch as someone with autism, because they kinda debunked the whole āvaccines causes autismā thing. And the purpose of Miss Teacher Bangs A Boy and Cat Orgy was to call attention to the issue of child predation.
Thereās probably more examples I could provide that arenāt at the top of my head right now. But my point is, a lot of people just see South Park for what it is on the surface: unapologetically ruthless towards everyone, characters doing stupid shit, sex and toilet jokes thrown in. But they donāt realize thereās deeper meaning behind all that. I donāt really care what anyone says, South Park is genius, funny, and ironically inclusive. š„š„š„
