You know that a reader insert isn’t really you, right?

I don’t know why OFC fics are so looked down on in this fandom, but it’s worth pointing out that reader inserts - up to and including the very most inclusive ones - still aren’t about you. They’re still OFC fics, just minus a name and physical descriptions.

It’s cool if you have a preference in what you read, but it’s not up to you what other people write based on your preferences. It’s called scrolling, lads. If you don’t like it, scroll by it.

Can’t believe I have to explain what scrolling is on an app or computer in 2021 tbh.

I’ve seen this floating around and here are my 2 cents: I don’t like OFC fics, so I don’t read them that often.

Don’t attack people for writing OFC, and don’t attack people for writing reader inserts.

Attacking how people view Reader Inserts will not get your point across and is further dividing the reader community. And vice versa.

This post has been floating around my dash all day and it’s really irked me so, bare with me while I rant.

Straight up, this is strange to me. Because who are you to say that an audience can’t identify with a reader insert? “You know the reader insert isn't really you” is such a weird thing to say... because I can guarantee the vast majority of writers of ‘x reader’ fics do it so they can offer a route of escapism for their audiences.

People rely on reader inserts from escapism, period. I try to make my reader inserts as non-descript and inclusive to everyone, because I want you to be able to identify with them. I want you to feel like you’re venturing out to the depths of the galaxy with Din Djarin, or living an extravagant stress-free life with Max Lord. OFC fics are looked down upon and it’s really disheartening but you can say that without shitting on people who read and write ‘x reader’ fics.

Write what you like. Read what you like. But don’t try and police others and suggest they can’t identify with reader inserts. The tone of this was really condescending.
