Bounty hunter Samus Aran re-design. Going for a mix between astronauts and metroid. I kept hearing from people that the designs I did for Halo 4 & 5 had a Metroid vibe to them. I never used metroid reference for designing the master chief or locke I usually used photos of real world objects and not a lot of video game images. Doing it this way adds a feel of functionality and realism.
I’ve always liked Samus so here’s some sketches and explorations of her. Started with warm ups and studies of the current design, some ideas about her hands being placed in her chest armor and the arms are extensions of the suit.
Color and design studies of the suit and ideas of cloth and canvas surfaces merged with metal and hard surface parts. Her helmet would open in many parts and expose her face for cutscenes.Â
Doing this type of work is what I enjoy the most, it’s relaxing and fun and I can do it for long hours… . . Although there’s not a lot of storytelling or composition involved in it.
Personal note to artists reading this: Spend a lot of your time sketching and doing the craft but always find time to do other things, specially hang out with people, party hard and laugh. There has to be balance.-Gabo

HAPPY 20TH ANNIVERSARY TO SUPER MARIO 64!!!

Here it is folks!  I’ve been hacking away at this project since last November and the day has finally come to reveal it in its entirety!
Super Mario 64 is not only one of my all time favorite video games, but it’s also one of the most influential titles in the gaming industry, even today!  That’s why I felt it deserved a proper celebration of its 20th anniversary by making paintings inspired by the game’s main 15 courses.  Here they are in all their glory for you to enjoy!

as if one fanmade botw design from me wasn’t enough ehe,,  i was binging on some theory vids and i got thinking.. while the other design was based on nomadic influences derived from my first exposure/vision of this open world genre, i didnt look into the lore up until later on.
but i really like the idea of the princess being forced into refuge (most likely w/ the Sheikah) while she waits for the Hero to reawaken from his 100 year slumber. thus she is tasked to carry the legacies of both her Sheikah caretakers and her Hylian heritage, forced to combat that of her enemies and lonely isolation.
