I almost did something bad... This would have been a bad cupcake breakfast.
Fires and Diabetes: What You Should Know
This past Monday, we got back from a trip to West Virginia. Whilst up in that state, in our ski lodge, there was a fire. In a panic, I ran down the stairs to go outside in the 29 degree weather. It was 3am. No shoes, no jacket, just my pajamas and my pump. When the fire fighters came, I realized I have left not only my room key in my room, but ALL of my diabetic supplies. Luckily a firefighter got me to my room when it was safe enough to get my room key and backpack I carry around with everything I need (meter, juice, anti anxiety Meds ;). What did I learn from this? What should anyone learn from this? ALWAYS keep your needed medical supplies nearby in an emergency, and don't forget them if you need to leave quickly! And your room key, if you're in a hotel... And maybe some shoes and a jacket if it's cold outside...
Cupcakes for breakfast today!
Ritalin
So, as of this week, I've been put on Ritalin. It's been 3 weeks since my doctor prescribed Vyvanse, but even with my knowledge of how to talk to insurance people (that pharmacy life..) trying to tell them, hey, my doctor specifically put me on this because I can't tolerate certain medications, and since I'm diabetic, he thinks this medication will work best with my blood sugars. But, you know, Vyvanse is so expensive, so: Ritalin! One of the most abused prescription drugs. It's doing what I expected it would do, too.. Make me not hungry, have my sugars plunge, force feed myself and make myself sick from eating when I'm not hungry. Other than that, I am the calmest, most focused little diabetic in this house! I can tell stories without forgetting what I was talking about mid sentence, I can talk more precisely and more slowly so I'm able to think and put words out of my mouth without fudging up words... I actually WANT to do school work and study. It's a miracle! It would be more of a miracle if I could eat while on it, though..

One day I hope I am the girl that walks into a room and all eyes are on her.
