               “ OK, i believe you. ”

     with a grin she couldn’t help but let twist her features upwards, Katie carefully unfurled her fingers. & in the palm of her hand sat a tiny being. six-legged, blue  &  GLOWING slightly as large eyes blinked around.

    A spark of curiosity and awe lights upon his features, sparkles behind his eyes as he looks upon the creature in her hands. He’s never seen ANYTHING like it before, and though he finds himself reaching out to touch it he manages to refrain from such.  ❛   What is it ?  ❜

                               he’s always hated the way people feel when they’re BEHIND him, arms tight around the cage of his chest, splintered bone piercing muscle, breathing blood. it’s a brief panic, brief flare of vulnerability as footsteps reverberate behind him ( off the floor off the walls everywhere and all at once ) before the boy speaks again – gentle, and maybe even a bit impressed. 

❛     i might – rub my eyes every now and again, stand up and stretch … but no, no nap. not tired. 

                               he’s not even entirely certain that he’s lying, not sure if he really is tired or if the throbbing behind his temples is due more to his prolonged use of the visor. focusing on projects like this always makes it worse, but at least with tools in his hands … he isn’t alone in the dark. 

❛     if you’re not busy … would you like to help?

          He doesn’t know how people do it. He could barely stay awake for a single night, never mind MULTIPLE. Maybe its just because growing requires energy, and he’s already spending most of that energy on his studies. At the question, his lips tighten into a smile, a lighthearted display of teeth.  ❛     I’d love to !    ❜       At that he takes a few more steps forwards until he’s standing near Geordi’s side, and alert gaze studies the work laid out upon the desk. It only takes him a moment to recognize the deuterium cartridges, and only a SECOND longer to gather the aim of the little project. Not that it was difficult to get that far. The hard part was trying to figure out the lieutenant’s line of thought. What his plan was.            ❛     What do you need me to do ?    ❜

                    “ alright. promise you won’t tell anyone ? ”

     one hand went into her pocket, withdrawing to hover      CLOSED between them, waiting for the confirmation.

        His gaze is lowered momentarily towards the enclosed hands in front of him, before eyes lift once more to meet the elder’s. A small shake of his head, accompanied by an excitable smile announces his HONESTY. ❛   I won’t, I promise.   ❜

       she bounces forward on her heels and eagerly leans towards the boy, eyes alight at the prospect of adventure. there is no challenge she won’t take on with vigor, and his words at her admittedly dangerous predicament only serve to further excite her.

               ❛ now let’s see if there’s something to be done about those terrible options. can’t be that hard, eh? ❜

              He can’t help the smile that grows upon his features in response to her ENTHUSIASM. He doesn’t think he’s ever met someone so overjoyed at the thought of danger before. A reckless attitude to have, but one he can’t help but partly SUCCUMB to, keenness wearing off on him easily.     ❛    I sure hope not. What did you have in mind ?    ❜

      ❛    Commander !    ❜  The exclamation is made as his pace quickens slightly to catch up with and match that of the much taller male. Though originally energetic and vehement in his actions, there’s a flash of a moment in which he reminds himself of BASIC manners that he seems to have skipped over in his childish enthusiasm.  ❛    Sorry, I didn’t mean to disturb you. You’re not busy, are you ?    ❜

     “Yar to Enterprise…            Yar to Enterprise…

“Damn it! There must be too much interference from the plasma storm to get a signal through. It’s jamming our communicators. Probably the transporters too… 

“We should take shelter before the storm gets much worse. Wait it out. They’ll send a search party out for us once the conditions clear. For now, it’s our job to keep in one piece until they can dispatch one.”

      Of all the times & places a plasma storm could have hit, it was remarkable how it simply occurred at perhaps the most INOPPORTUNE of moments and locations. And now they were stuck here, stranded & separated, for however long the storm may last. Though, he supposes it could always have been much WORSE.      He stands in silence whilst the Lieutenant attempts to contact their ship, and listens carefully when she directs her words towards him. Wesley gives a small nod in response, before his gaze is aimed over her shoulder rather than at her, and with a slight gesture to accompany his words. His suggestion is made with a marginally hopeful timbre to his tone. ❛     I think I saw some small caves back that way, maybe we could look for shelter there ?     ❜
