I went to see one of my three moms today; in picking up some books that were otherwise bound for goodwill, she blindsided with a gift that brought me to tears... It was one of Lee's ties. Lee was more than a father figure-- he was a huge nerd, proud and committed. His ties were a subtle wave of his flag, tasteful but recognizably linked to Star Trek, Indiana Jones, and other beloved interests. I still remember service days, meetings and conventions where my mind went to one prodding question: Which tie did he wear today? That was partially true and, well partiallycomplete bullshit. The counselor was muchmore upset than she let on, especially sinceher damage was emotional. Shore leave had beenbrief, and Deanna had done her best to make sure no one knew what had happened.Other than the captain, who had made surethe area she’d been in was off limits. No oneelse would get hurt.

for someone who wanted others to be open with their emotions, there were  times when the empath struggled to  be honest with her own feelings. one of the subjects that caused her the most grief was will. why was she always shocked by that?

“Will? Will, are you even listening to me?”

she’d been talking about nothing overly  important, but some sort of recognition  would be nice.
