before we start saying mike is like tammy, I think we are forgetting the context behind robin’s speech to will. she was listening in on a conversation between them where mike was telling will to reach his full potential and try to use his ability more like a power. i dont understand why robin would see that interaction and be like “ya he doesnt like u back” i dont think the intention of her speech was to say anything about whether mike like’s him back, but more about confirming what mike was actually telling will and helping him understand to even be able to do that he needs to accept himself and find power within himself and stop hiding behind or along with others. the whole first volume he wasn’t allowed to join their missions and had to hide back because joyce wanted to protect him because she wasnt always able to. in all the other seasons we always see will being saved or protected, but what robin is telling will is to recognize himself, accept himself, gain confidence, and put himself out there. she wasn’t talking about will’s crush, but rather his queerness as a whole and his acceptance and identity becoming more independent. she’s not saying he doesnt need mike, she’s more so focusing on mike’s actual words, that i feel like got hidden behind the flirting.

also mike and will dont even relatively parallel tammy and robins, literally two completely different narratives that were unconnected until this speech, she’s just using her story as a reference point for will. there’s a reason mike was still a mainpoint in his flashback that helped him find power within himself. he finds power through his queerness, but also with his constantly encouraging relationship with mike.

GA: We want to see these characters going through trauma! Look what they’ve been through! It’s unrealistic for them not to have PTSD!

Jonathan: Turns to drugs as a coping mechanism because of the trauma from the his abusive father, his brother “dying”, dealing with the Upside Down, watching Will get possessed and exorcised, stabbing his coworker in the throat, etc.

Mike: Pulls away from everyone, acts like an “asshole” and rebels because he had to watch his best friend disappear and almost die over and over again, watched his new friend basically obliterate, fought against the Mindflayer, and is going through intense internalized homophobia during the height of AIDS.

Will: Breaks down and destroys Castle Byers because he’s lost his childhood to the Upside Down, had to survive that hellhole for an entire week, got possessed, and then had to watch the love of his life fall for someone else and basically replace him. He just wants to go back to being normal, but he can’t.

GA: NO NOT LIKE THAT!! Jonathan is useless! Mike is such an unlikeable character! Will is a crybaby!

Just when i think that the byler tag is dry and there aren’t anymore theories to theorise over there pops up a new AND BIGGER one. Like Mike,Jonathan and Joyce forgetting there core memories of will. DEVASTATING. Like wdym Mike doesn’t remember how much he loves Will, wdym he doesn’t remember the day he first met Will:(

But on the Byers family front it also make sense cus I always felt like they weren’t as close anymore which is weird cus there THE BYERS, arguably the most important familial relationship in the show(maybe beside el and hopper) so for them to suddenly be this distant doesn’t make sense. Jonathan basically confirmed this during that scene with Will (and the fact that Joyce couldn’t even tell Jonathan was smoking pod)

That scene was btw why I initially thought that the theory couldn’t be true cus he clearly understood the feelings will has for Mike but then again I think the van scene was enough for him to confirm it (together with the little byler scenes at the Byers house)

But this also means Jonathan forgot wills favourite song so that means WILLS FUCKED.

But I do think this Will come in a CRUSHING scene where either will and/or Mike gets vecna’d

Imagine will being at his lowest cus the three people who are closest to him don’t seem to love him as much anymore(they still do just not the same) and vecna’d using that to get will on his side.

Or MIKE getting vecna’d and vecna making him remember all of his core memories with Will and remembering just HOW MUCH he loves Will and it all making sense again as to why he feels the way that he feels about Will(cue him being absolutely CRUSHED and hating himself for ever forgetting those precious moments with Will)

they eat off of eachother’s plates. Mike, especially, steals from Will’s plate all the time.

They steal eachother’s clothes constantly. Mike, especially, steals Will’s flannels. With that said though, Will does steal one of mike’s few metal band tshirts and almost sends mike into cardiac arrest from the contrast of gentle, sunlight-bathed Will Byers wearing a ratty black tshirt that says “SAVIOUR’s CORPSE” in barbwire font or some shit

Will sometimes does that thing in the mornings that some people do where they kind of SCREAM when they stretch after waking up- Mike sees this happen for the first time and momentarily freaks the fuck out thinking that Will’s been possessed.

Mike cracks his knuckles all the time. Will shudders every time and gives Mike a gentler version of the Disgusted Will Byers Stare TM

Will hogs all of the blankets. All of them. Mike complains dramatically but then softens his complaining into concern when he remembers how much Will dislikes being cold because of the mindflayer.

Will constantly has to wrangle his boyfriend into eating actual meals. Mike is a picky eater, but thankfully, Will is a good cook.

Mike’s fashion isn’t full metalhead/Eddie 2.0 but he DOES own a leather jacket that Will painted a dnd mural on the back of. it’s one of his prized possessions.
