Next To Normal Ask Meme: Send Me One To See How My Muse Will React
“It's 4 in the morning, is everything ok?”
“Some days I think I'm dying, but I'm really only trying to get through.”
“I think the house is spinning.”
“So, we'll try again and eventually we'll get it right.”
“Not a very exact science, is it?”
“I'm trying to tell you I love you.”
“I can be perfect for you.”
“I miss the pain.”
“Nothing's real.”
“I didn't know you had a brother.”
“He's been dead 16 years.”
“This is fucked.”
“I know you're hurting. I am, too.”
“Can you tell me what it is you're afraid of?”
“Can I touch you?”
“Are you wanting all that she can't give?”
“I am the one who won't walk away.”
“I wish I could fly, I'd fly far away from here.”
“I love you as much as I can.”
“I'm your worst fear, you'll find it in me.”
“I need you to need me.”
“It's not going to get better, is it?”
“Are you nervous?”
“What's your story?”
“Did you see my parents out there?”
“How could she leave me on my own?”
“Why didn't you take me with you?”
“You're kidding, right? That's bullshit.”
“What makes you think I'd lose my mind for you?”
“Tell me why I wait through the night.”
“I can't get through this alone.”
“Am I feeling what I think I'm feeling?”
“I'm good as gone.”
“You don't remember any of this?”
“I thought you might call.”
“Don't say that we're over.”
“I couldn't give a flying fuck what's normal.”
“Your life has kind of sucked, I think.”
“Won't anything be better than before?”
“Your son is gone forever though.”
“There's something missing.”
“Let me know you again.”
“Why do I get denied?”
“Where'd you get that?”
“How could I ever forget?”
Why would you want to remember the things that hurt you?”
“Please, tell me his name.”
“Why stay?”
“Something next to normal would be okay.”
“You look like a star.”
“Can you leave it behind?”
“I might end up crazy.”
“So anyway I'm leaving.”
“It's time for me to go.”
“I am the one who saved you.”
“I know you know who I am.”
“We need some light.”
“It's the price we pay to feel.”
“If you touch my ass one more time I will cut your balls off in your sleep, okay?”
"Uh…." He laughed nervously and started backing away. "That was completely an accident."
Steve blushed at the comment. “Really it’s not.”
His lips twitched into a smile. “I thought that you did what I did only slower.” Steve picked up the sketchbook, erasing a smudge that had made its way onto the paper. “Yeah, they are.”
"Teammates?" Corey asked, looking between the two. "Sorry, kinda lost here," she shrugged.
"Uh, it’s not really my place to explain. Steve can say if he wants." He stares back down at his drink.
"I was in the army for a while, they were in my squadron. Great guys, all of them." Steve explained.

“If you touch my ass one more time I will cut your balls off in your sleep, okay?”
"Uh…." He laughed nervously and started backing away. "That was completely an accident."
Steve nodded but his ears continued to be a nice beet red color. So when Sam changed the subject he was more than willing to comply.
"It’s ah nothing really, just a sketch from old times." He said modestly.
Lith looked over Steve’s shoulder at the sketchbook, silently sipping her coffee. “Those are pretty good,” she complimented before turning to Sam. “How come you don’t do anything cool like that?”
Sam sighed into his coffee. “‘Cause I’m not an artist. I do other things. Cool things.”
He squinted at the sketches and then looked back up at Steve. “Hey, are those your old teammates?” he asked, genuinely interested. Corey was right, it was a good drawing, not just ‘nothing’ like Steve seemed to believe.
Steve blushed at the comment. "Really it's not."
His lips twitched into a smile. "I thought that you did what I did only slower." Steve picked up the sketchbook, erasing a smudge that had made its way onto the paper. "Yeah, they are."
“If you touch my ass one more time I will cut your balls off in your sleep, okay?”
"Uh…." He laughed nervously and started backing away. "That was completely an accident."
At the sight of the ring Steve’s face turns a bright shade of red in embarrassment. “I- apologize… I didn’t mean… to disrespect you Corey.” He sputtered.
Corey couldn’t help but snort at the guys’ reactions. “Relax Muscles, it’s fine. You didn’t know.” She took a drink of her coffee and turned to Sam. “You were quick to answer then, fucker,” she teased.
"Ha, I’m not touchin’ that subject with a ten foot pole," he said, leaning back in his chair. "Lord knows you’re just looking for a reason to kick me under the table."
He noticed Steve’s sketchbook out of the corner of his eye and leaned forward to look at it, eager to change the subject. “What are you drawing?”
Steve nodded but his ears continued to be a nice beet red color. So when Sam changed the subject he was more than willing to comply.
"It's ah nothing really, just a sketch from old times." He said modestly.
“If you touch my ass one more time I will cut your balls off in your sleep, okay?”
"Uh…." He laughed nervously and started backing away. "That was completely an accident."
"That’s sounds amazing." Steve said grinning back.
He overheard Sam’s ranting and chuckled at it. “So are you two……” He asked looking from Sam to Corey.
"What are you insinuating, Muscles?" Corey frowned, narrowing her eyes at him, purposely tapping her left hand on the table, hoping he’d catch a glimpse of her ring.
"No," he said quickly, glancing at Corey. "No, we’re not. Not at all. Don’t you be gettin’ any ideas, Cap. ‘Cause we’re not."
At the sight of the ring Steve's face turns a bright shade of red in embarrassment. "I- apologize... I didn't mean... to disrespect you Corey." He sputtered.
"I hear it's someone's birthday today." Steve said holding out a cake.
"Well, lookie there, Muscles!" Corey grinned, taking the cake from him. "Thanks, man!"
"Yeah, sorry…" Steve apologized.
"Nah, it’s not a problem," she assured him, grabbing her remote and flicking on the television. There was a cheesy horror movie playing on the screen. "Ooh! I love this movie!"
Steve nodded in thanks before taking another bit of cake. "I can't say I've seen this movie."
“If you touch my ass one more time I will cut your balls off in your sleep, okay?”
"Uh…." He laughed nervously and started backing away. "That was completely an accident."
Steve couldn’t stop a smile spreading across his face at Sam’s comment. He walked back to the table with Corey. “Sorry m-Corey, it’s hard to break habit.”
He nodded, picking up his sketchbook. “I sketch some but it’s just a hobby.”
"That’s nice. I’m kinda a professional artist. I’m a photographer for a band," she grinned. "I really could use that coffee right now," Corey said loud enough for Sam to hear.
Sam was just picking up his order and Corey’s when he heard her call. “You keep this up and I’m beginning to regret taking you here,” he muttered, not really caring if she heard. “Shoulda just thrown a few bucks at you and gone my own way. But no… Gotta be a nice dude.”
He sat down next to Steve and pushed the coffee across to Corey. “So…”
"That's sounds amazing." Steve said grinning back.
He overheard Sam's ranting and chuckled at it. "So are you two......" He asked looking from Sam to Corey.
"I hear it's someone's birthday today." Steve said holding out a cake.
"Well, lookie there, Muscles!" Corey grinned, taking the cake from him. "Thanks, man!"
"I have a job with the government sorta." Steve said.
"Top secret. I get it," she nodded, taking another bite.
"Yeah, sorry..." Steve apologized.
"I hear it's someone's birthday today." Steve said holding out a cake.
"Well, lookie there, Muscles!" Corey grinned, taking the cake from him. "Thanks, man!"
He nodded. “Mhmm. And thank you, I appreciate that.” He smiled, taking a bite of the cake.
"So, what do you do besides hang out with fucker and draw?"
"I have a job with the government sorta." Steve said.
"I hear it's someone's birthday today." Steve said holding out a cake.
"Well, lookie there, Muscles!" Corey grinned, taking the cake from him. "Thanks, man!"
"My father was killed in the war." Steve said. "I’m sorry about your loss."
He then smiled at her comment. “Well it’s good to know I’m worth something to you then.” He joked.
"Thanks, Muscles. And yup, you bring me food and you’re artsy. Seems like pretty good friend material to me," she grinned.
He nodded. "Mhmm. And thank you, I appreciate that." He smiled, taking a bite of the cake.
"I hear it's someone's birthday today." Steve said holding out a cake.
"Well, lookie there, Muscles!" Corey grinned, taking the cake from him. "Thanks, man!"
"I uh was sick a lot when I was a kid and my mom was a single parent trying to raise me. We did a lot of stuff indoors and I helped her with chores around the house. Cooking and baking just happened to be a chore we both enjoyed to do." Steve explained.
"I never learned how to cook or bake when I was a kid. My mom passed away when I was young, and my dad was pretty useless," she shrugged. "That’s why I keep my friends around. They feed me."
"My father was killed in the war." Steve said. "I'm sorry about your loss."
He then smiled at her comment. "Well it's good to know I'm worth something to you then." He joked.
"I hear it's someone's birthday today." Steve said holding out a cake.
"Well, lookie there, Muscles!" Corey grinned, taking the cake from him. "Thanks, man!"
"No problem." Steve said and followed Corey to the couch, sitting down beside her. "I’m glad that you like it."
"What’s your secret, Muscles? I’ve never met a man as buff as you who could bake so well," she mused, taking another bite.
"I uh was sick a lot when I was a kid and my mom was a single parent trying to raise me. We did a lot of stuff indoors and I helped her with chores around the house. Cooking and baking just happened to be a chore we both enjoyed to do." Steve explained.
"I hear it's someone's birthday today." Steve said holding out a cake.
"Well, lookie there, Muscles!" Corey grinned, taking the cake from him. "Thanks, man!"
Steve followed the directions and grabbed two forks. “That’s good, I was worried that you wouldn’t like it.” He admitted, handing her a fork.
"Thanks, Muscles," she said, taking the fork and walking into her living room, collapsing on the couch and motioning for Steve to do the same. She took a bite of the cake and let out an obscene moan when it hit her palate. "Fuck, this is really good."
"No problem." Steve said and followed Corey to the couch, sitting down beside her. "I'm glad that you like it."
"I hear it's someone's birthday today." Steve said holding out a cake.
"Well, lookie there, Muscles!" Corey grinned, taking the cake from him. "Thanks, man!"
"Oh is it now? I guess I did good then." Steve said joining her at the counter.
"Oh, you did better than good," she smiled, slicing a few pieces from the brownie cake. "One for you," Corey muttered, laying a piece on a plate for him, "and one for me. Forks are in that top drawer."
Steve followed the directions and grabbed two forks. "That's good, I was worried that you wouldn't like it." He admitted, handing her a fork.
"I hear it's someone's birthday today." Steve said holding out a cake.
"Well, lookie there, Muscles!" Corey grinned, taking the cake from him. "Thanks, man!"
He laughed. “If you say so.”
"If you want to Corey."
"Of course I wanna! Y’know Muscles, the quickest way to my heart is through my stomach," she smirked, setting the dessert on the counter, pulling out a knife to slice it with.
"Oh is it now? I guess I did good then." Steve said joining her at the counter.
