Yeah, thereās definitely doll blogs not on tumblr. I read several:
M0nkfishās dolly ramble- toys in general, also BJDs. Solid 10/10 would read again. Mostly Resinsoul BJD. On Doa. aka purple monkfish. Not the hero we deserve but the hero we need. Actually financially responsible, but still has fun. Not stuck up. Sense of humor. Open about what dolls cost and how they did it on a budget. Does faceups.
Missyās !maginings- Lovely personality- very sweet. Puts some personal stuff on there, but keeps it nice. Basically free printable pattern central for msd (mnf), sd (like Resinsoul proportions, not really curvy), And that in between size if sd and msd had a child (50 cm- like Evangeline Ghastly). Much more fashion doll than realism. Also has ābasicā sets you adapt to make your own patterns. Or sew to get a dress form pre dolly arrival. It makes more sense when you look at it. Just saying.
Antique L!lac- my sewing grail, tbh. Canadian, used to take commissions Former costume sewer or something. Anyway, free patterns/tutorials and creative journeys. Variety of sizes. Fantasy/realism aesthetic. Tons of Iplehouse, some Kay Wiggs, and a Updates almost daily. On Doa. Also has a Facebook page. Photography is breathtaking. Sewing is breathtaking. Tutorials are great. Interacts with commenters.
Amaranthzās Castaways- I hesitate to add this one. Keep it nice, okay? Sheās ex-prorecast, and doesnāt update anymore (2016). Great personality, has some useful comparisons so people donāt get scammed. Some identifiers as well. Sheās turned herself around so donāt go crusading. Sheās got some useful stuff and itās great for newbies because you can actually see the recasts in pics without getting banned off a forum⦠Mentions being on DOA in the past but havenāt ever found her.
In th3 glade fantasy dolls (in and around the glade)- this one is part of a family. The person running it has several blogs across different doll universes. Just go into the blogger profile to find the rest. Mostly photos and story telling. Good read. On Doa.
DollzArtCats- not really much to say. They do whatever they feel like doing. Some pics, some gushing on new releases.
As the resin w0rld turns- Really good at crochet, some mini reviews? Idk what to call them. Just commentary on new dolls. On Doa
R3sinRapture- another hobby blogger. Does their own face ups, some sewing. Also on Doa
0rchiddolls- photography, tricks and tips. Some general advice. Anime styled dolls, so not really my thing but still really well done.
My Dolly Adv3ntures- great at sewing. Come for the crochet stay for the bilingual interviews with artists. Sculptors, faceup artists, wig makers, etc. Spanish and English. Also has an Etsy shop for patterns. Used to have an Etsy shop for crochet but has since closed down. Andr3ja commissioned her at least once, for a cardigan. The reviewās still up on YT. Aka Musame. Updates pretty often.
Jade pix3l doll lab- anime face ups, some photography, anime eyes. I think on Doa? Not quite my thing, so unsure, but great at styling dolls. Ā
Ros3intea- mostly YouTube videos and eyes for sale. Great unboxing. Not filmed with a potato. Respond to comment section. Main content is unboxing so not too active, but so worth it. Although I prefer the YouTube channel over the blog. Great quality.
There b3 dolls- I honestly have no idea whatās going on here. I found it trying to find Musame, lol. Anyway, interviews and at least one eyelash tutorial. Appears to be run by El!sa. In my five minute scroll, I also found Izaās Faceups and Peppermint Pocky. Izaās on DOA. Peppermint Pockyās also on tumblr, apparently. Idk, I just read. Maybe forum, maybe blog. Canāt tell.
In conclusion- yeah thereās actually a lot. Itās just harder to track one down. Please donāt go crusading, especially on Am4ranth. I put her on for informational purposes. Like it or not, actual recasts v. legit comparisons are hard to find for that many different dolls, and very valuable if youāve never had either recast or legit. Especially from someone with both experience and photos. She doesnāt support them any longer, I believe. Donāt go hate on her.

Wow, I just went on DoA and their newĀ āposting to ask questions about the legitimacy of a doll outside of Ask the Mods is forbiddenā is WEIRD.Ā I just read that announcement and that is a weird, bad take on handling that issue.
Not talking about recasts on THE BIGGEST BJD FORUM IN THE STATES always struck me as weird.
I donāt care ifĀ āit gets heatedā it should help weed out pro-counterfeiters!
Thatās like the #1 place people SHOULD talk about it!!
The only other places to go? Pro-recast. Itās like that post about how only heavily right-leaning news sources allow a person to read as many free articles as they want and the others are behind a paywall.
The new announcement basically says that you canāt post threads asking people to help you verify the legitimacy of your doll because if it ends up being a recast, youāve violated theĀ āno posting recasts on DoAā rule and could be subject to banning.Ā
Like⦠that doesnāt even make sense.Ā Like, ānot my circus, not my monkeysā anymore⦠but⦠what?Ā
No one should get banned for thatā¦. That sub forum should be exempt from that rule, that doesnāt make any sense.
DOA seems to very much have an attitude that if you accidentally buy a recast you are a terrible person because you should just magically KNOW⦠somehow. Itās a very newbie unfriendly environment there in any event and their bullshit about having some sixth sense for recasts is just more honestly elitist crap.
I know a lot of people call bjd collectors in general elitist but I think itās DOAās FAULT that myth persists.
Theyāre SO hostile and honestly rude to any new person asking a question and will dismissively direct them to āuse the search functionā or link an old thread thatās long since become redundant rather than just answering the damn question or having a regularly updated āfaqā or something
A lot of the old guard flat out IGNORE people they donāt know and your question on the appropriate forum will go completely disregarded, itās like youāre invisible so you never get an answer.
you cannot talk about recasts AT ALL
You canāt have conversations that stray āoff topicā for even one post or a mod stomps in and scolds you and deletes everything so thereās no way to really interact in a meaningful way at all. I find the facebook groups manage this a LOT better, allowing people to have conversations that are about dolls but permitted to flow naturally.
Newbieland posts donāt count toward marketplace access but you MUST provide useful contributions for posts to count or theyāll be deleted. So how the fuck do new people participate in conversations in a productive manner when theyāre not allowed to ask a lot of questions outside of newbieland, have no doll to post pics of or talk about and arenāt able to verify the legitimacy of stuff found outside of DOA?
It feels like a catch 22. You canāt get marketplace access but you also canāt get peace of mind that something bought outside DOA is legit and if you mess up youāll be blacklisted for life for an innocent mistake because fuck you, you should have magically KNOWN because everyoneās born a goddamn expert. -_-
can you tell iām salty?
to be frank, i feel like DOAās ādonāt talk about recastsā policy is a big reason as to WHY itās such a huge proble. Ignoring a festering tumour allowed it to grow and making it increasingly difficult for new people in the hobby to find information, to make friends and to feel included with a very hostile and rude environment hasnāt helped either.
DOA put me off buying a bjd for nearly a decade because they were SO abrasive and SO unwelcoming to little teen me.
and it pisses me off to know theyāre still doing that to people.
I read posts from newbies and I see a lot of the āold guardāās replies and I have to bite my tongue because last time I told them not to be so rude and to watch their tone a mod scolded me, deleted my āplease be nice to newbies and watch your tone, it could be read as very dismissive and rudeā post and kept the rude ones intact!
(that newbie actually pmed me to thank me and then left DOA so yeah, well fucking done guys, you drove a new person OFF and I dread to think how many youāve done the same to over the years.)
DOA is thankfully not the be all and end all of the community these days but the pedestal itās been put upon as āthe placeā for bjds when itās such a hostile and cliquey environment cannot be helpful at all.
Recasts are an issue that needs to be talked about, maturely, like the goddamn adults we supposedly are. but DOA doesnāt want to. Theyād rather look away and keep silent, not giving new people any help in avoiding being scammed.
I think thatās pretty disgraceful.
so where are people supposed to ask if an ebay listing could be a recast or are we all supposed to buy first hand only? the gatekeeping for the ABJD hobby is wild.
@firespirted youāre supposed to ask the mods and wait however fucking long it takes for one of the āgodlike beings of doaā to deign to answer you because theyāre the only authority apparently.
-_-
Meanwhile iām here using best judgement and just buying ebay dolls because fuck DOA and their nonsense āall ebay dolls are recastā crap. itās a flat out fucking LIE.
Itās totally weird to me that the Mods are the recast identification brigade.Ā Like, first, you willing to certify that?Ā Thatās a lot of liability.Ā Second⦠are you really that expert?Ā Like Iām a hobby fossil/cryptid and I was a mod for over 10 years⦠and recently, I had to spend a lot of time talking to a friend to verify if a doll that I had purchased with 17 years of BJD experienceĀ was legit.Ā And yāknow why she was able to help me verify it?Ā Because she had one.Ā How can you identify a recast if you donāt have access to the dolls themselves?Ā Thatās why community sourcing that kind of information makes sense.
And like⦠weāre so far beyond burying our heads in the sand and pretending recasts donāt exist.Ā Itās veryĀ āThere is no war in Ba Sing Seā to just⦠not talk about them.Ā Instead, there should be resources to educate about recasts, lists of dolls that have been recast, how to spot recasts, and help identifying and verifying recasts.Ā Itās BIZARRE thatĀ āno discussing recastsā meansĀ āmilitantly pretend recasts donāt exist.ā
And potentially banning people who are trying to verify if they are even allowed to post a doll they bought in good faith?Ā Thatās insane!Ā Ā
Obviously I donāt know for sure, but Iām wondering if the announcement may have been made because many of the questions were about easily-identifiable eBay/Amazon/etc. listings, things that are totally obvious to experienced collectors but perhaps not to new people? Moving those questions to Ask the Moderators might help avoid directing traffic to shady sites/sales posts?
Iāve also experienced some⦠just straight weirdness around recast identification? Like, Minifee #8 hands were never made with hooks, and I still had someone argue at me that #8 hook hands didnāt make a Minifee clearly recast. I can imagine that the dark side of group identification is that there will always be some people who are confident but wrong. It also opens up a lot of spurious āwell this many people said my doll isnāt recast so itās notā type claims, potentially made in bad faith.
Also, FWIW, from my perspective, DoA doesnāt seem any more insular or rude than any other large group of people having a hobby-related discussion. Questions going unanswered doesnāt seem more or less frequent on DoA than on the various BJD discords and so forth. YMMV.

Little MiMi doodles. Iām always surprised that her poses tend to end up so āgenkiā⦠I donāt know where that comes from. (Dom? It sure aināt the other twoā¦) I figured her personality would be quieter and more reserved, but she uses that pointing hand pretty darn well.
Mimisbrunnr is a Volks YoTenshi Tsugumi, with the default Volks faceup, on a Volks YoTenshi body. Her outfit is by SOW, and her boots are by Ubeeās. Her hat is by CoCoon (formerly pigeon:milk), and her necklace is by Chilled Cherry.
Long time no post, shit's been rough af, especially with the quarantine. But, I am starting to get back into bjds again. I have a super cute Danhong head ordered from Studio Insert
and I plan to get her dyed a light tan colour so I got her in white. Next pay I'm putting a Doll Legend body on layaway bc I've always admired those bodies, plus there's an event with 10% off and a free(!) pair of jointed hands, and I love the look of those hands <3 I've missed having a big girl to spoil tbh. I was almost gonna go for Ringdoll's new MSD girl Miu, but then I saw this girl and she looks too cute for me to pass up, and I usually end up selling my msd girls due to losing interest anyway. I want to get her a peach coloured wig, and hopefully a faceup by one of my grail artists eventually
