Floral Photography Inspired by Claude Monet by Nikita Gill

Poet and photographer Nikita Gill experiments with a series of floral photography the concept of impressionism and the important play of light and dark. Inspired by the riveting work of impressionist painter Monet, her work aims to mimic the color scheme, intensity and the weather conditions the classical artist worked under.

Gill captures the sublime quality as well as Monet’s subtleness.

The first thing you notice about Zion is the sheer scale of things. Wide rock faces stand like sentinels, and guard the cavernous amphitheaters that ring with echoes like the halls of great cathedrals. Our aim was to find a perch on the top of Angels Landing for sunset, so we wound our way up the switchbacks, ever higher, and pulled ourselves hand over hand along the chain that hugged the ridge-line. At the top, a breeze blew gently by us and the clouds popped with color thrown by the last breaths of the fading sun. We hiked back down through the muted tones of dusk, and though we could have spent days in Zion, we sped off to Salt Lake, in a race against the break of day.

Portraits

Margaret Sarah Carpenter was an English painter of the first half of the 19th century. A follower of Thomas Lawrence, she was a fashionable portrait painter in her time, painting a variety of society figures and exhibited regularly at the Royal Academy.
