These Are My Things, I Love Them

Hey, I like finding and collecting dead specimens and here on this blog I'll post about them. I like to think of it as my own mini natural history museum. #vultureculture #wildlife

My first creation using some of my specimens! We’ve got a raccoon skull that I bought from Adeline Robinson 🧡🦝, a cicada shell, a hawk moth, a bottle of gemstones that I got as a gift 💜, a quarter that I painted on 👁 and later on I added some tombstones! ☠️

Petra Panthera (Petra Croton + Panthera is the Genus that lions and other big cats belong to)

Yesterday I finished mask for a mask decorating contest at my work. It’s supposed to go over a regular covid mask as a decoration. Petra Croton plants have been on my mind a lot lately because I love the variety of colors they come in, and I wanted to incorporate that with a structure of some sort of skull. I chose to go with an African lion maxilla (upper jaw) and as I added to it it more so turned into a saber tooth cat.

The other day it was really nice out, so I thought I’d give these deer bones a rinse. I’m positive that it’s a young deer considering the size of the mandibles and ribs.

A former classmate in one of my photography classes had been walking in a cornfield and came across them, she was under the impression that they were fake. I assured her they were real, since she knew I liked collecting bones, she went back out there to get them for me! It was really nice of her! 💚

When washing off the vertebrae I noticed how one of them has a nice smile :)

Wasn’t expecting to see this much taxidermy today! Look at all these beauts! Some were not in the best condition, they’re definitely not the cutest but that’s what I like about them. The eerie goat is my favorite. I would’ve brought them home, but at least I got a duck out of it!

This dragonfly was recently given to me by a friend, whereas the sparrow I acquired while out with another friend. We were getting coffee and I found the little guy on the pavement. I’m guessing he must have smashed into a window, unfortunately. At first I was going to attempt to stuff him, but I decided against it and let his body decompose so I could have his bones.

So a couple days ago, my youngest sister’s best friend bestowed this gift to me. She left this little hatchling remains in a baggy on my desk since she knew that I like collecting specimens. The last picture is how she found it, apparently there were two more like this in the nest.. I’m pretty sure it’s a mourning dove, but if you think otherwise or KNOW otherwise, let me know.

I cleaned the top of my desk and now my mini museum sits there. ✨

I found a place to put my skulls. At first I thought my tv was broken and I was going to put my vulture culture collection on top of the dresser where the tv sits, but apparently it works. So now I'll save up for a shelf to go on the wall for my gems and smaller specimens.

This weekend I got myself a cow skull and a buck from Autumn Drive! They were both very lucky finds because I was really hoping to find some taxidermy at this yearly flea market. 💚 I also got some gems: serpentine, tektite, red tigers eye and sardonyx.

Okay this isn't a real opossum skull, but it's fitting to the nature of this blog's theme. It's a sculpture I made out of paper clay and it's part of my Halloween costume. I'm going to be the forest floor! (I promise I'll start posting some pics of my actual specimens soon)
