also this is not edited yet so any mistakes will be fixed once im finished with the fic :D
CW: Being electrocuted, the reader is hurt in the beginning, kissing, realizing you fucked up,, HAHA
note: Since we don't know Inazuma's police, I gave them the name Jieitai because that is what Japan's military is called!
Italics means a flashback or a thought! (:
-------------------------------------------------
“So, this is Inazuma’s ‘greatest’ assassin?”
You still remembered how sharp those words were, like strings of electricity scorching every ounce of your ego.
Fuzzy. Fuzzy and warm, the feeling just before you’re struck by a brutal hit of lightning. That’s what you remember feeling when your face was brutally pressed to the cold ground by a member of the Jieitai. The weight of his shoe felt like it could have crushed your skull with just an ounce more of force, but you could only concern yourself about how filthy those shoes probably were.
“Yes, that is correct, your greatness.” There was something so funny in the way the man above you spoke. His brute voice echoed like thunder to your ears, yet quivered slightly in the face of such a high being. You supposed you could not blame him, you heard many stories of this supposed God terrorize the sole people she gifted visions to. To take away visions as an Archon? You wanted to scoff right there. No wonder many of her own subjects began to lose their devotion for her.
You heard a small hum from the being ahead of you, followed by the clacks of her heels, which echoed across the divine palace. You felt a wave ease fill you when the Jieitai’s foot gave mercy onto the back of your head when he backed away from the approaching Archon. The shadow that casted over you was enough to make you shiver. You felt as if a band of clouds formed above you, and were ready to strike you with a bolt of lightning anytime soon. Your heart beat was out of control, in fact it was practically beating out of your chest. Your breathing got heavier with every second the Archon stood looming over you. The silence was sickening, so sickening that beads of sweat began to form at your forehead. What was taking her so long to say something? Was she thinking about whether you should be spared or not? A dark thought in your mind ripped through your head: No, she was definitely thinking about how she would kill you. Your eyes squeezed shut and you balled your fists as your life started to flash before your eyes. This…. was it.
Finally, after what seemed like a millennia, the divine goddess broke the deadly silence with an equally deadly command, “Raise your head.”
You felt your head lift up on its own, as if the fear you felt controlled every limb in your body. You struggled to both adjust to the harsh lighting of the place and where to place your eyes. You couldn’t just face an Archon head on, now can you? Perhaps if you weren’t facing the god who held your life in her hands, maybe you would give her the stink eye. However, you weren’t that foolish. If you were going to die, perhaps this God could take mercy on you.
“For a vision holder, you’re not anything special,” she observed, scanning your frail, tied up body. “Though, you did take out quite an impressive amount of my men,” she noted, as if she was listing a pros and cons list as she circled you.
You bit the inner flesh of your cheek, holding yourself back from saying something. Whether it was a plea of forgiveness or a scream of anger, you didn’t know yourself. So many bottled up emotions were swarming inside of you. Who knew which one would come out first?
“You were foolish in trying to take one a load of my men though. They would have beaten you eventually… and here you are.” something like a chuckle escaped the God, finishing her 360 around you and stood in front of you once more. You couldn’t help but sigh softly, because she was right. I mean, your title as ‘Inazuma’s Greatest Assassin’ had its limits, and now you were tied up with bruises and wounds everywhere. ”But I’ll admit… you do have potential.” This comment was like a shock to your ears, and in response you quickly looked up at the Archon.
“You may have heard about my pursuit to recapture all these visions again, haven’t you?” The Archon asked as she slowly put her hands behind her back. “Well, I’m very close to completing that goal, though it seems that I may have missed a few…” --distastefully, she glanced at the vision that hung by your side-- “but no matter, because I’m willing to pardon you.”
Your eyes widened at those words, words that seemed way to be good to be true. You were convinced you were going to bed dead by sunset, however destiny had its own plans. At the time it seemed like a hopeful future, but in reality destiny can come in my shapes and forms--including disguises.
She turned, so that her back faced you as she reflected from the past. “A few years ago a young boy named Kaedehara Kazuha was able to steal a vision from me. He was the only person who had been able to deceive my men and me, and I sulk in rage every time I’m reminded of it. He knows he is exiled from Inazuma, and he may never return home, however I am tired of my constant state of rage. I… would like to properly deal with him.” The way she said the last sentence had frightened you. Her cold eyes gazed out the window, and she looked like she pondered over how many times she would zap this boy with lightning. Closing her eyes, a disappointed sigh escaped her lips as she continued. “It’s been 2 years since I’ve sent out a search party for him. He always gets away, they say. I’ve hired and fired just about everyone, and not even my top men can get him…”
You could only gulp, you knew where this was going.
“That’s why I want you to look for him and bring back the vision he stole,” she finally said the words you had been dreading to hear. “Bring him back alive though, I don’t care how alive, just so long as I can watch him take his final breath.” She looked over her shoulder, a wicked grin casting on her face as you bergan to learn her true intentions. It was one thing when higher officials paid you to finish the job, you were never disappointing. However this was an Archon that was commanding you to do this. The stakes were so much higher. If a search team couldn’t find him in two years, how could you? You would be dead for sure if you didn’t bring him back and you’d rather die in different ways than being zapped into pieces.
“I know you have a reputation of being able to find people and finish the job quickly, so that is why I am entrusting you with this task.” You jolted your head up, eyes widened in fear and your lip trembling slightly. You couldn’t hold back your tongue anymore, you had to say something. You couldn’t just let yourself be thrown into this seemingly impossible mission. Opening your mouth, you began to form your sentence.
However before you could finish, a burning sensation ripped through you that caused a blood curdling scream. You rolled onto your side in agony as you gasped for air, tears pricking your eyes as you hyperventilated so helplessly. It took a moment to realize you had been shocked by a strong current of electricity. You could heard the Archon’s laughter echo in the room.
“I had a feeling you would snap at my mission request. I suppose I should have worded it better. You MUST go look after him, unless you would like for me to continue to zap you to your death. I promise you, this isn’t even my full pow--”
“I’ll do it--!! I’ll… do it…” you practically screamed in horror at the thought of being zapped to death by this Archon.
“Mmm, very good. I knew you’d come around,” she hummed as she began to walk towards you. Tears began to fully stream down your cheeks as she began to approach you, fear clouding your mind as you could only think she was coming to kill you. But instead she leaned to your level, gracefully undoing the knots that tied your arms to your back with almost a taunting smile. “You’ll head out as soon as your wounds heal. You’re free to take how many supplies, men, and weapons you need. Just so long as you can capture him, I don’t care how you obtain him.”
You slowly moved your hands to the front of your body, rubbing the rope marks that seemed to be engraved into your skin. You hissed at the pain, but nothing brought you greater pain than what you heard next.
“I forbid you to come back until he’s captured or you are ready to die. Do you understand?”
Yes.
Yes you understood.
It had been 6 months since you were recruited by the Archon to capture this Kaedehara Kazuha. Months of failing and hell, finally led up to the moment where you had him. You finally weren’t a fraction away from him. He was in your hands.
So, why were you kissing him?
You were caging him underneath you, his white silky hair freed from his hair tie and spread across the grass. In the six months of your attempts to capture him, this was the closest you have ever gotten to him. Your anesthesia cloth and rope were in your bag, just a hand reach away from the two of you. This was your chance, your chance to be freed from this hellish mission and finally be able to go home. But instead, you were every so passionately making out with the Archon’s most wanted criminal.
You pulled away from his soft lips, a trail of saliva connecting your lips, only to be broken as you slowly panted for air. The fugitive under you, flushed and speechless, could only stare up at you with a mixture of horror and awe at what had just occurred between the two of you. Your glance met his, and you took a second to note how his eyes shone like rubies under the moonlight. Your brows furrowed as you took in his features. You only ever had heard descriptions of him from the higher end investigators who’d seen him from afar, but now that you were able to see him up close, you didn’t know if those descriptions were so accurate anymore.
Kazuha’s panting softened as he stared up at you, his heart was unmercilessly beating out of his chest. His brain screamed at him to get out of your grasp, that any second more you’d knock him unconscious and drag him away back to Baal. But his beating heart yearned differently. It was like something had snapped in him, because he yearned for your lips once more. Why was his heart being so cruel like this? He knew he was not immune to humanely desires, but kissing the person who's been after him for six months? That was certainly pushing it.
The two of you stared into one another’s eyes, the sounds of crickets and rustling bushes flooded both of your ears. A cold breeze washed over the two of you, as if it was giving you a knock into reality. Your fuzziness in your heart and in your stomach soon faded, and was replaced with the biggest feeling of dread you had ever felt. With widened eyes, you could look down in horror at the realization.
What have you done?
