Join us for Second Saturday, March 14, 2015 from 6pm to 9pm.
These two giclees, "Tennies" and "Apples", by Sacramento artist, Hallie McKnight will be at Sparrow Gallery during our Winter Sale.
A recent graduate of Santa Clara University, Hallie will be part of our figurative group show in February, 2015.
From the artist, Hallie McKnight;
"My paintings are a celebration of something people take part in daily without realizing the significance of what they’re doing. We all make choices every day. This is one of the things that holds us together, while at the same time distinguishing us from one another. The things we eat, the things we wear, the things we do; these all take a subtle yet significant part in shaping our individual identities and indicating hints of those personas to the world at large.
I choose to paint the products of American culture in order to depict the significance choice has on our identity formation. Paintings take the world and exaggerate its vibrancies, its subtleties, its failings. Paint, and the way I choose to use it, fails to capture the world exactly the way it appears in “real life,” or the way it appears through the lens of a camera. Its failure, for me, is actually its most endearing quality. Its imperfections speak to the imperfection of human life and the choices we make. Paint, like the choices we make, can be manipulated, colored to be seen a certain way or to hide certain things. But it also endures. And that’s what I love about both paint and about how painting can depict the everyday choices people make: it is a timeless representation of what it means to be human."
