EXPEDITION SPACE LAB Funding Opportunities Expedition Space Lab is built upon the belief that science in space should be within the reach of every educator and student. Each Expedition Space Lab mission…
We just learned that our $10,000 grant proposal was approved by the International Space Station National Laboratory Center for Advancement of Science in Space! We'll be incorporating a “Space Lab” using resources from ISS National Lab Space Station Explorers (SSE) educational partners, NASA, and other STEM learning toolkits. This will be a partnership between SPC, Pinellas County Schools, and other community groups. I can't wait to get started on this initiative!

The iLab had the honor of hosting another World Partnerships and U.S. Department of State's International Visitor Leadership Program for their "U.S. Technology and Solutions for Waste-to-Energy Initiatives" project for Pakistan. There were visitors from the Sindh Environmental Protection Agency, Energy Departments (Punjab and Sindh), the Green Building Council, and other Pakistani energy organizations. These people are brilliant and I realized that I have a lot to learn about our global energy issues.
We are celebrating #ArduinoWeek2022 with two Arduino workshops on Wednesday, March 23rd. One is 2-3pm EST and the other is 5:30-6:30pm EST.
You can learn more and register at web.spcollege.edu/survey/33401. I will also stream the workshop via Zoom.
It has been amazing watching Spatial develop over the years. In September of 2019, I was invited by Aaron Dence to work with a small group of Spatial Beta users to explore and provide feedback on new features before they were released to the public. This has been an awesome experience! Spatial started as an AR application, which only worked on a few select headsets; it now works on multiple platforms and on a variety of headsets (including smart phones and browsers). Spatial is becoming a truly equitable and promising technology giving people from all over the world opportunities to work in collaborative AR/VR spaces while rendering time and space irrelevant. It sure helps mitigate my Zoom fatigue. I can’t wait to see where Spatial goes within the next 2-3 years since the “metaverse” concept has started to gain serious traction.
3D design and printing is now considered a mainstream technology because the equipment and applications are more affordable. Unfortunately though, basic 3D design principles tend to be neglected so objects tend to fail when they are 3D printed. In this two day workshop, learn basic 3D design fundamentals (e.g., understanding 3D space and geometry, modeling, surfaces, textures, and rendering images), understand how 3D printing works, discover a variety of free 3D design applications and repositories, and gain hands-on experience designing/printing a 3D object to help solve a real-world problem. Note: it is recommended that attendees create a free Tinkercad account before attending this workshop. Although there is no age requirement for the workshops, it is highly recommended that attendees understand how to use a computer.

The iLab, sometimes referred to as a ‘technology playground’ is a collaborative learning environment designed to help people experience and explore emerging technologies. There are no grades or assignments.
It was great sharing some of what the iLab is doing for FOX 13 News - Tampa Bay! Part of the interview took place inside Spatial VR, too! Thanks Terri at AMRoC Fablab for connecting me with FOX 13's Tony Sadiku. We had fun in the "technology playground."
It was pretty cool joining this #VR chat today from inside Spatial with Joanna Stern and Christopher Mims from The Wall Street Journal!
3D Scanned/Printed “Life Mask”
This 3D print turned out pretty decent considering it is our first attempt at 3D scanning a student's face for their American History "Life Mask" project. Next time, we'll make sure to pay better attention to the scanning portion of the project.
Paul, thank you for the Blender tips.
This is a great opportunity: #NASAiTech's 'Ignite the Night' at #SynapseSummit! This pitch event will identify technologies that are addressing challenges on Earth and have the potential to also be solutions for NASA - National Aeronautics and Space Administration. Register to attend or participate by January 17th at 🚀: NASAiTech.org. #InnovationLivesHere #NASA🎟️: SynapseFL.com/Summit
These students plan to add myoelectric sensors next, so hand movements will be nerve powered. It was a pleasure working with these two.
These two high school students did a great job today prototyping a prosthetic hand to demonstrate that they can, in fact, be built with electronics for less money than devices typically sold to consumers. They used car lock motors and fishing line to actuate the hinge joints. They plan to add myoelectric sensors next, so hand movements will be nerve powered. It was a pleasure working with these two.
I am testing out a new way to browse music on Spotify using Magic Leap. The Wi-Fi and Bluetooth connections from my iPad to the Magic Leap are sluggish at times, but it gives you an idea of what it is like.
It is pretty cool to be inside virtual reality watching artists also inside virtual reality being creative. It is an interesting perspective for sure. Unfortunately, this video shows the stereoscopic view. It is obviously a better/more immersive experience inside VR, so let me know if you want to check it out sometime.
<geek> This experimental functionality via the WebVR API is sending stereoscopic images to both lenses in our headset (HMDVRDevice) and receiving positional data for that headset from the sensor (PositionSensorVRDevice). </geek>
It looks like you are right there with the artist!

We have a new 3D printing project in the works.
I am doing, what I like to call, a VRinar (a webinar inside Virtual Reality) for Florida Library Webinars Tuesday, October 1st from noon to 1pm EST. I hope to "see" you "there." I am excited to use Doghead Simulations' Rumii application, which is a "a social-virtual reality platform that enables people to educate and collaborate in a 3D virtual environment from anywhere on earth!"
