“Ah something that happened to me once before and something I don’t want to happen to me ever again.”She replied before letting a small laugh escape from her lips. Her cat didn’t mind her being around other cats, but there were some times that it did seem like she was a little bit jealous of her owner being around others which she found a little bit funny at the best of times. “Her name is Milly, I don’t think I have met or heard other people using that name for a cat before if I am being honest.”
.
“Oh no, sounds like there’s more of a story there?” Ezra asked, raising an eyebrow at her. He filled another tin then looked around at the cats gathering around them, starting to pay more attention to the bowls of food than to him. It looked like he had about enough filled up so he carefully stepped through the little crowd, careful not to step on any tails, “Aw! That’s a really sweet name. You got any pictures of her? If you don’t mind--I can show you Marigold.”Â
With a raised eyebrow, Ollie nodded. “Yeah, it snows quite a bit. The wind off the lake is awful if you live close enough.” Unfortunately, Ollie did live close enough to the man-made lake for the colder months to be made worse by it. Hands in his pockets as they meandered down the walkway, he shrugged. “Being busy doesn’t excuse not checking in. You’re new around here, the least I can do is make sure you’re settling in.” Ollie hadn’t forgotten what else they’d talked about that first meeting, but he wasn’t going to bring it up right away. “Everything is fine. Not great, but fine. The coven is doing well, and that’s what I really care about. I’m trying to reach out to the other covens and make sure they’re all doing okay, but…it’s an uphill battle. Getting everyone to trust each other seems impossible sometimes.”
.
“Huh,” Ezra nodded, he never had seen snow before, or at least not close enough to actually experience it, “Not sure if I should be scared or excited about that,” He chuckled, “Oh--That’s--” Ezra shook his head a little, surprised both at the idea that Oliver cared that how he was doing, and the fact that he cared that he cared, “That’s, uh, sweet of you but you don’t need to worry about me everything’s okay,” It wasn’t actually a lie. Between his actual work, practicing his craft after hours, and the Recovery meetings he was attending didn’t leave a ton of time for trouble. Probably what he needed, if not exactly what he wanted. Not that Ollie needed to know any of it. Maybe the magic practice at least the basic general stuff he had been learning. The necromancy, though not so much.Â
“Good, I’m glad they’re okay,” He nodded, “Oh no, really?” Ezra looked up at him. Knowing little about even less about the political relationships between them, “You’re not gonna tell me it’s all like Jets and Sharks here, is it?”Â
“I suppose. I’ve never lived anywhere else, so I can’t really compare it.” Ollie never felt a desire to leave his home city or his coven - even when the weather got on his nerves. Smiling, he nodded his head in the direction Ezra pointed and started walking. “How have you been doing? I’m sorry I haven’t had a chance to catch up with you since you first got to town.”
.
“Fair enough,” Ezra nodded, he understood that, before last year he hadn’t gone farther than a few hours drive from his home either, “Is it gonna snow here?” He asked, falling into step with Ollie as they made their way through the crowd, “ I mean not now but like, y’know, at some point?“
“Hey, no, don’t worry about it, you’ve got your whole coven to run,” He said, waving a hand. Never having been a part of a coven structure, he didn’t really understand all that went into being a Supreme, but it had to be complicated, “Things are fine, nothing too exciting. How are you? With everything going on?” Ezra had kept a pretty low profile, so he wasn’t too worried about himself with the VIGILANTE group, but others had a lot more to be concerned about.Â
Fianna had a long day that day and deep down she was just ready to head off home feed her cat before having something herself and heading to bed for the night. Thankfully the blonde had the day off the next day so she could lie in before doing some work around her place. She was fixing her bag over her shoulder as she made her way down the street, humming softly to herself before something caught her attention.
Walking passed an alleyway, she couldn’t help but notice somebody standing in it before he began to speak to her. Her eyes looked down as she walked into the alleyway, seeing the cats she began to put things together. “I would love to,although I think my cat might be jealous if she knew I was around others.”
Ezra recognized the woman from dropping in on the local covens, shamefully he couldn’t actually remember her name at the moment. If he thought a lot about it he might be able to recall, but for the moment it just wasn’t coming to him. Maybe engaging with random strangers wasn’t his best idea, but she seemed willing to play ball at least for the moment.
“Oh no, feline infidelity, a heinous offense,” He nodded, “Punishable by the cold shoulder and judgmental glaring.” Lucky for him his own cat had been one of these same strays who had found her way into his apartment and refused to leave, so she didn’t seem to care too much, “What’s her name?”Â
“I hit the target on that hammer game so hard last year that it nearly broke.” A half cringe, half proud smirk graced Nox’s face as he walked through all the games at the Summer Fest. “I betcha I could win the top prize again. They practically threw it at me to make sure I didn’t play again.”
“Oh, so is this how you get all the girls to swoon?” Ezra teased nudging Nox teasingly with his arm. “Stunning feats of athleticism and impressive bravery in the face of Summer Fest? If I join them would it get me a stuffed animal?”Â
“Does it really count as Summer Fest if I have to wear a sweatshirt when it starts to get dark?” As if on cue, Ollie shivered slightly. He shoved his hands into his pockets, flexing his fingers to keep warm. “I swear, summer just decided to disappear overnight. Have you seen a coffee cart anywhere? I need to warm up if I’m going to enjoy the rides.”
“Gotta say I agree. But isn’t it always like this in New England?” This was Ezra’s first year on the east coast, but from what he understood the weather fluctuations around here were far greater than those in San Diego, “I think there was one a few blocks-er-aisles? Rows?” He faltered briefly over the terms, but tried to right himself after a moment and pointed, “That way.”Â
Ezra always had a soft spot for animals. Truth be told he had a soft spot for just about everything, but cats held a special place in his heart. There was probably something to be said about the stereotype of witches and their cats, but he wasn’t about to let something like that stop him from feeding the Southside strays.Â
Predictable as clockwork after his shift he was out in the alley behind his apartment refilling the old pie tins he kept set out. There were a few of his regulars already milling about, mewing and rubbing around his legs. He gave a couple of them head scratches as he moved on to a few more tins. A noise at the end of the alley caught his attention and he saw someone standing there.
“Wanna join? I think there’s still a table for two,” He said giving them a slightly crooked grin.Â
It wasn’t often Emma got frightened in the city, she’d grown up on the streets of Roseport. But she could sense the movement behind her. It made her nervous. She could feel the warmth in her hand growing as she crossed over the road.
She was so preoccupied with what was behind her, she wasn’t watching where she was going. With a loud clunk, her forehead collided with a lamppost, knocking her to her feet. “Fuck.”

Ezra wasn’t paying that much attention to who the person in front of him was. However, he did catch when the wallet fall out of her bag, but it seemed maybe she hadn’t as she kept walking. He scooped it up, and sped up slightly to follow her, he realized she had sped up so he followed suit, but didn’t think to call out to her until--
“Oh shit!” She had run directly into a pole, “Oh no! I’m so sorry, are you okay?” He reached her side and knelt down near her.Â

Necromancy. A bit of a touchy subject, even when it comes to the supernatural community. Often viewed with confusion, suspicion, even fear, magic with death and the dead tend to evoke negative reactions in others. However, like just about every other brand of magic some witches have a natural inclination towards it. Rose was one such witch, belonging to a coven of other similarly gifted witches.Â
For a long time things were fine, great even, maybe they weren’t the most well regarded coven, but communing with spirits always brought Rose joy. Unfortunately, like many good things, it didn’t last. A new Supreme came to power, one with new ideas, they weren’t content to merely commune with the already did, no they wanted to increase the spirit population.Â
Rose wouldn’t be party to such plans, and upon an unsuccessful challenge to the Supreme’s rule she fled. For some time she wasn’t pursued and she was able to settle down in California. She met a man, Rafael, and together they had two children, Ezra, and later Alexa. They couldn’t immediately tell if the kids would be magical like their mother, or a human like their father, but either way Rose had decided not to tell them. The magic world had caused a lot of suffering, and she wanted to protect them.Â
Unfortunately for Rose, both children started showing traits. Even still, she tried to avoid it, continued keeping her secret. She loved these kids more than anything, and she really thought she was doing what was best for them. Then, to make matters even more complicated her old coven finally found her and she disappeared. This left the children, nine year old Ezra, and seven year old Alexa with their human father, still none the wiser about their origin or who they were.Â
Ezra grew up confused. Loved by his family, but confused. Why could he and his sister do things that other kids couldn’t do? Why did he hear voices in his head when he touched certain objects, or walked past the cemetery on his way home from school? Why didn’t he like girls the way most other boys did? Why did his mother suddenly disappear with barely a word of explanation or goodbye? Where did she go? Would she ever come back? Was she even alive?Â
Feeling so lost and alienated Ezra fell in with a rougher crowd. Probably not the best idea, Alexa was always telling him off about it, but alcohol, drugs, and sex all made more sense, than the rest of the world around him. If his friends were using him or didn’t really care about him? So be it.Â
Finally in high school the Big Family Secret came out. Ezra and Alexa were magical, the voices he heard were the dead. On some level it helped, now he knew he wasn’t insane, but on another level it just added to the weirdness, and he really struggled to handle it. With help from his father he was able to start to pull himself together. His father helped him and Alexa to find a witch willing to help them train their skills.Â
This proved immeasurably helpful for Ezra, things actually started to make sense, he could use this magic to help people. General magic had a lot of use, and the ability to communicate and interact with the dead could help to ease the pain of their grieving friends and family. He really took to this, and maybe even wanted to make a career of it, which meant graduating high school and going on to college.Â
In college things fell apart again. Money problems, alienation, insecurity, loneliness, good old depression all reared their ugly heads and Ezra fell back to his old coping mechanisms, the three staples, sex, drugs, and alcohol. This time they managed to drag him down and he dropped out at the end of his second year, moving home and getting a job as a server, squirreling away money to help make sure Alexa would be able to go to college.Â
For a few years he was able to keep his head above water, but his addictions finally dragged him down and after an overdose left him in the hospital Ezra followed in his mothers footsteps and left California. The shame and self loathing were too much for him to take. What started out as an escape turned into an as of yet unsuccessful hunt for his lost mother. He has traveled around to different places, never staying too long, until he reached Roseport.Â
Finding that this was something of a supernatural hub he thought maybe it would be a good idea to settle down for a while, see if maybe he could catch wind of his mother’s whereabouts. While he didn’t make it far enough in school to be a funeral director or mortician or anything, he was still able to get a job at the local funeral home. For the most part he does secretarial and other office type work, but still if he gets the chance to speak to grieving families he sometimes tries to pass along messages or words of comfort he picks up from the other side.Â
OKAY TLDR: Ezra’s a generally sweet but often melancholic gay necromancer who works at a funeral home, struggles with addiction, and wants to find his mom? Hit up ya boi?
