Not sure why Jess saying in the press conference that the guards really stepped up the last two games annoyed me so much but it does. The “guards” (not Arike) have been doing what they’ve been doing a majority of the season. It was actually the bigs who finally stepped up this game and the paint wasn’t free real estate like it was a majority of the season. I hope I’m just misinterpreting what she said.

Agreed. Im glad she’s getting some recognition this year, holding one of the leagues greatest shooters to 0 is amazing. All defensive first team 🤞🤞

Hi okay so the game was overall pretty good! Azzi was late to come out after the national anthem and then again later on she left the bench and came back. There handshake was all cheesing per usual. After Paige got hit in the face and they didn’t look it over she was pissed at the ref for the rest of the game. During a timeout azzi said “p are you okay” and Paige gave a thumbs up and azzi laughed and made the face she made in the video earlier kind of like okayyy. AC had to tell Paige to sit down when she tried to talk to the refs. When Jose took Paige out after she got hit she kind of yelled at him. Curt was sitting in the section over and in the same row as Paige’s family. Someone told him to trade Arike and he just sighed. Every time Arike did something bad he was not happy. Paige and Azzis dads were waving at each other from across the court before the game started. They were chatting a lot on the bench and laughing. Before starting lineups were announced they were laughing with awake about something. The male ref was calling EVERYTHING on both sides so there was no flow. Maddys family was not happy that Maddy did not play. The team really did not pass to azzi very often but I’m glad she kept shooting the three. Lots of high-fiving during every whistle and butt hitting

At the end of the day, this is a professional league. Every player wants the team to win, but they’re also thinking about their own game and their own numbers. That’s just the reality.
Azzi needs to start playing a little more selfish. She can’t always be focused on making the right team play if it means passing up her own opportunities. She has to be willing to hunt her shot and take more attempts.
There are plenty of times she’s open and doesn’t get the ball, and there are also times when other players are looking to create for themselves first. Even the bigs are stepping out to shoot threes instead of always setting solid screens or making the extra pass.
Azzi is such an unselfish player, and that’s one of her strengths, but sometimes I think she plays too nice. I’d love to see her play with a little more swag, be more aggressive, more confident, and a little more selfish when the moment calls for it. She has the talent. Now it’s about trusting herself enough to go get hers.
As much as we all wanted Azzi to be an All-Star, we also have to be realistic about everything that’s happened since she was drafted.
From day one, she’s been compared to Olivia nonstop. Even the media has been disrespectful toward her, and if she isn’t putting up big numbers, people immediately get online and criticize her. It feels like she’s constantly being judged under a different standard.
The players who made the All-Star team are great players and absolutely earned their spots. It just sucks that Azzi seems to have to prove herself over and over again. Even in the player voting, Olivia was ranked ahead of her, which shows how she’s currently being viewed around the league.
I’ve said this from the beginning: Azzi was put in an incredibly difficult situation. The expectations, the comparisons, and the constant discourse started the moment she was drafted. I still believe she was set up to fail, and that has shaped the way people evaluate her from the very beginning.
