re: additions to the costume
aeron's mask! reads lips for him when he's too busy doing something else. it also picks up soundwaves and translates both of these into words ( like a speech to text hologram function ). meaning aeron can be busy doing something else and he'll still understand. so he kinda wears his mask like 24/7, especially while in class because sometimes he starts doodling on his papers and stops paying attention. it also stores most of the information so if he misses something, he can review it and catch what he misses.

re: skillset
aeron's father was not in his life for the first five years because he didn't want to deal with having a daughter. aeron's mother enrolled him in all sorts of different programs, mostly because he wanted to do so much and was a very busy child. up until his 8th birthday, aeron was a dancer. his father pulled him out of dance, which resulted in yet another fight between him and aeron's mother. after aeron's father's death, and aeron's trial ( to which he was acquitted from ), his mother enrolled him, at his request, in gymnastics and self defense courses. aeron has never stopped, even while at the academy. he doesn't compete in floor gymnastics, but he very much enjoys balance beams and uneven bars.

he takes a hold of mei's chair and pulls it closer, so that they're sitting in front of each other. he doesn't speak, doesn't open his mouth. instead, he unhooks his mask, pulls it away from his eyes and grins. he pushes the print out sheets of paper towards her, and leans back into his seat.
on both hands, he bends his fingers, extends the thumb and pinkie and raises them. then lowers them, repeats the action.

then points at her with his index finger -
YOU
an open palm, right hand moving like it was stealing the words out of the page and putting them into his head.
LEARN
one more, he wants to say, but that's not what they're doing. he's teaching her, so he's going to let her experience what it's like for him. no words, no sounds, just the movements of their hands.
pointed index fingers, moving in large circles like he was trying to imitate the stopping of a bicycle's wheels, and his grin only seems to widen.

Don’t you dare, for one minute, believe that my kindness makes me anything but insurmountable. I did not unzip my chest to every kind of hurt, and stagger back, wounded and alive, just to hear you call me weak for trying.
Ashe Vernon (aka latenightcornerstore), from her poem, Softness, in Words Dance 16. (via morguliis)
❝ meme me up!! meme me up inside!! can't meme up! meme me up inside! call my meme and meme me from the dark! ❞
a heavy sigh before she answers.
“that’s my brother for you.”
she’s not surprised. not in the slightest. who ever thought pietro would be a good teacher was so very wrong. he wasn’t a very patient at all, the fact that the children learned anything was a surprise. that didn’t leave her with many options. a part of her felt responsible as an avenger and as pietro’s sister, to teach them something. or at least keep them entertained until class was over. but what? she could teach them to fight but that seemed boring. there was astral projection or magics… but not all these kids would have magical abilities.
“what would you like to learn? i know some good tricks.”
they were more than parlour tricks, but wanda didn’t talk them up. it was hard to believe you were good at anything when people treated you like you were wrapped in cotton wool. perhaps she was approaching this the wrong way entirely. with her head cocked to the side with interest she smiled.
“show me what you can do.”
show me. can? do. blue eyes widen in shock, and he shakes his head. she's too close to him, too close that he'll hurt her, like he hurt himself and his mom. no. another shake of his head. he can't and he won't.
it's different, he knows when he's running training courses or in the field. because he's trapped in this mindset, trapped thinking and knowing that he could die ( even though he knows the courses won't kill him, he can't not take them seriously ). but he can't control his voice, because he can't hear how loud it goes, only knows how it feels, with the thrum of his vocal cords against his throat when he opens his mouth. instead, the teen scratches at the shaved part of his head, then moves up to play with his long bangs. he can't, he won't.
❝ it deafens. ❞
he tells her, mumbles the words out from under his hand, ashamed of it. some of the others - some of the people he's worked with - they'd heard it. the sound of a banshee's call, a baby siren's song. aeron looks away, as if he's preparing himself for a slap, for refusing something. a clench of his jaw, breathe through your nose, he tells himself, don't cry out. but the pain never comes, because he's at a school, and teachers don't hit students. so he moves his eyes to the other side of the room, and watches a student whose name he's never caught pipe up. he speaks too fast, but aeron picks up the words 'scream' and 'nightmares'.
❝ i scream. i'unno how loud it is. it made me and my mom deaf. so i don't... ❞
