"Inside you...?" Lark looked at Rogier a little more closely than he had been, reminded how little he knows of this man. Lark's focus was so strongly on recovering his kids that the usual consideration he'd give to another being was getting mostly lost. Lark would have to rectify that later.
Lark nodded, controlling his breathing and thinking through it. He reached out to organize the objects more precisely, probably more precisely than needed, but his brain needed them to be perfectly angled in just the right way. Everything set just-so. "I'll uh...start with Goose." Seemed a little easier to focus on just one, and he wanted to make sure she was okay. He removed Duck and Raven's objects, again making sure what was left was just right.
Okay. He touched the stone directly one more time, soaking in the memory of holding a sleeping kitten. Okay.
It wasn't initially working. When he first started to try the spell, he found himself pushing more power into the stone, causing it to glow a little brighter. That was something he'd practiced, just transferring magic from himself into the stone. He bit his lip and worked on finessing his focus, less on the rock and more on the mirror. The stone is like...a remote. You're turning on the mirror. The mirror will show you Goose.
After a bit of focus, that was exactly what started to happen. Goose appeared, in cat form, walking behind some buildings. The image was clear and focused, but more like a series of snapshots than a perfect continuous feed. Juggling his focus between channeling the spell and actually viewing it was difficult, and after a few fleeting moments watching Goose jump onto a windowsill, the image cut out. "Fuck!"
He blinked a few times, shaking out his wrists. Tiny points of light were floating in his vision, and the stone was visibly dimmer, but not gone out. Maybe it WAS viable, if he just pushed a little harder. "I'm trying again."
Unintentionally, with his lack of control, he was starting to form a thin aura of emotion projected around him. Anxiety paired with stubborn as hell determination.
He's going to make this work.
Of course, the magic leakage probably wasn't helping him any with the flow of power.
