My head exploded and I wanna cry cus I've been thinking of the same fic idea for the past few days and I'm going FERAL at the angst potential...
Fic diverges after season 3a of canon, aside from a few fix-its, like Erica and boyd being alive, jackson still being in Beacon Hills, and Derek still being an alpha, etc..
After 3a happens Derek, Cora, and Peter decide to take a break and go to Brazil to meet the pack that raised Cora. They try to go by themselves but Isaac, Erica, and Boyd, insist on going with them.
(I read in a fic once that Erica's parents ignore her and try to distance themselves from her due to the chance that they could lose her at any moment and I have adopted that headcanon.
I also read in a few fics that Boyds family also ignores him and that he's treated invisible, so I headcanon that too.)
When Jackson hears about this he wants to go too, which drags Lydia with him as well.
(Ever since the kanima stuff Jacksons parents have wanted him to leave anyway so they're fine with this. And also with Lydia slowly losing it her parents are also very okay with sending her away.)
And the Argents also leave to go to Paris.
They all go and end up staying for the school year wherever they are and don't go back to Beacon Hills until the summer before senior year.
While they were gone all the crazy shit that happens throughout seasons 3b, 4, and 5a move up the timeline and all happen within this one year.(Minus Monroe cus fuck that bitch)(Also minus some events like Kate and the whole mexico arc)
By the time they come back Kira, Theo, and the other kids are a part of Scotts Pack, as well as Stiles obvi.
The pack is mostly established but after all the craziness that was their year Scott is very adamant that the pack will be in a peaceful era. Aka, ignoring all supernatural business until it is directly in their faces.
Good thing the pack come back at the beginning of the summer before anything supernatural actually happens. The Argents and the Hales have a longstanding alliance at this point and the Argents are practically considered pack.
Derek and Scott make a deal/alliance so that they can both co-exist as alphas in the same town. The deal basically boils down to, Derek will let Scott stay on hale land so long as Scott doesn't interfere with the pack and will offer his own packs assistance should Derek need them. Scott counter argues that him and his pack don't want to fight but will help in whatever other way they can and Derek agrees.
The two packs don't interact much at first. When any supernatural stuff starts going down, the hale pack handles it themselves. The first time they actually interact is when the hale pack come across weird hunters that they can't seem to figure out. They first try to do their own research but after three weeks of nothing they go to Scott.
Scott says his pack will look into it and that he's hosting a pack meeting that weekend so they can come by the meeting and talk about what they find.
The hale pack agree and continue their own research. By the time the weekend rolls around they still haven't found much and don't think that Scotts pack has found anything either cus he hasn't contacted them or said anything. On their way to the meeting they're mostly preparing themselves for disappointment.
When they get to Stiles' house and see that almost Scotts entire pack is just lounging around playing video games and making jokes they basically give up all hope of getting any info from them.
Scott greets them and tries to pull them into the fun but they're tired from research and kinda annoyed with him and so they simply tell him that they just came for information and not to hang out.
Scotts kinda taken aback but just shrugs and says that Stiles has what they need upstairs.
They all head upstairs and find Stiles in, what looks like, a war room. There's a big table with a map of Beacon Hills on it in the middle of the room, a crime board on the left wall, a few maps of the U.S that seem to be tracking things on the right wall, a big file cabinet and and bookshelf right next to the door, and a computer set up in front of the window on the opposite wall that has its black-out curtains pulled open to light up the space.
Stiles is stood at the crime board with a frustrated look on his face, obviously trying to solve something and failing. Erica is the first one to talk and mentions something about being glad to see that he hasn't changed. They all notice how hard he flinches at her voice and whips around to face them.
They exchange friendly greetings but Stiles is a lot more subdued than usual, and gets straight to the research. He dumps a pile of files on the table and explains how he printed out all the research for them.
He explains that the first file are the hunter's attack patterns and weaknesses they might have, and all the research he's done to corroborate that. The second file is all the individual hunters personal information that he could find, including their medical history, criminal record, credit card statements, and any real estate purchases. The third file is filled with plans of attack, all set up to look like lacrosse plays, and all set up in the few areas around town that he thinks matches the hunters history of bases.
Obviously the pack is in awe and shocked at the amount of info he's managed to gather in the past week. Stiles takes their silence to mean that they're displeased by his attack plans and apologizes for overstepping. They are quick to respond by showering him with compliments and thanking him for his help.
He gets kinda awkward about all the praise and kinda just ignores all their clamoring. He changes the subject and instead tells them that he has attached a sticky note on the inside of the last file with Deaton, Melissa, and the Sheriffs phone numbers.
He mentions that his dad has agreed to help them if they need it, and that Deaton and Melissa both have their cars and houses fully stocked and ready to go in case anyone gets injured. He also hands them a flash drive with all the info on the hunters that he found. It's all organized and goes into better detail about some things.
They thank him again for his help. They are a lot more energized now than they were before and start talking to him about strategy and things when Chris mentions the crime board and whether it relates to them or not.
Stiles tells them about the murders that have been happening for the past week and how he thinks they're all connected and done with magic. He mentions that he thinks he knows who's behind it but has no evidence and so he can't take it to his dad and Scott won't do anything about it unless he has to. It's obvious from the way he speaks that he's endlessly frustrated.
They start asking questions and he answers to his best ability. Eventually Derek speaks up and says that they'll look into it. Stiles is stunned because he has no actual evidence other than his gut feeling and tells them so.
Jackson is the one who responds and says that he's never been wrong before about things like this and he needs to speak up more.
Theo walks into the room directly after he says that and starts making fun of Stiles and his paranoia. The pack are annoyed and have no problem showing it. They cut Theo off mid-insult and ask Stiles if he could come with them back to the loft to help them strategize.
Stiles almost says yes before Theo cuts him off and mentions how Stiles has some bad memories there and can't go with them. Stiles quietens and thinks back to everything with the nogitsune.
Issac asks what he's talking about and Theo starts taunting Stiles about if he should tell them or not and that if they knew they wouldn't want anything to do with him. The pack is immediately defensive and start digging into Theo before Stiles stops them and declines their invitation.
Theo drags Stiles downstairs and the pack leave. They do end up needing the sheriff when they defeat the hunters and after the battle they ask him about what went on while they were gone. He tells them about all of it and they're all shocked and dismayed.
They try to get in touch with Stiles and talk to Scott about everything but Stiles won't respond and Scott keeps blowing them off or not responding. The pack start using enemies as an excuse to see them and ask for help with research a lot more often.
After a battle a few weeks later the Sheriff mentions how he wishes Stiles was in their pack instead. He elaborates that Stiles' nightmares seem to be getting worse and that the instability of Scotts pack and Scotts own 'peaceful' ignorance is likely contributing to that. He thinks that if Stiles was in a more well established pack, that maybe he'd feel safer and his mental health would reflect that.
The pack say that they would love for Stiles to be a part of their pack but they weren't sure if he would be open to it and the conversation ends there.
A week later Stiles gets kidnapped by the with that he suspected at the start and is almost used as a sacrifice. The hale pack get him out and take him to the hospital. Scotts pack shows up at the hospital and Derek chews him out for choosing to be ignorant to the situation.
The hale pack also feel guilty for slacking off. They had looked into it but hadn't found anything and decided to just add the suspects house to their patrol. Due to all the enemies they've had in the past few weeks, they forgot about it completely.
Scott and Derek get into an argument that the Sheriff breaks up and eventually they all just sit in silence waiting for news on Stiles.
Stiles lives and heals and slowly gets closer to the hale pack every day while drifting farther and farther apart from Scott's pack. After a while the hale pack realize that Stiles is basically a part of their pack now but they still want to invite him officially.
One day when Stiles is supposed to come by, they wait for him to get there and formally invite him to the pack. Derek does a big speech about how much they value him and want him in their pack.
Stiles says no and gets super pissed. He tells Derek to go fuck himself and storms out of the pack house. The pack are obviously shocked and dismayed at the whole ordeal because they had already considered stiles pack and thought that them asking was more of a formality than anything.
Stiles avoids them for a while and rejoins Scott's pack. Eventually a new big bad comes into town and both packs end up needing to work together. They start having strategy/research meetings every other day at the loft.
At first, none of them talk about it and kind of leave it as the elephant in the room. Sometimes different members of the hale pack will try to bring it up to Stiles but he steadfastly ignores them each time.
After a month of these meetings, Stiles ends up being the first of Scott's pack to show up one day and he gets cornered by Derek to try to get him to talk about it.
Stiles tries to ignore him at first but gets too frustrated and crashes out.
He yells about how pissed he was at them for leaving him. How after all the times he saved their lives or at least helped to save their lives, he thought he deserved at least a fucking goodbye text from them or a heads up but they couldn't even grace him with that.
He tells them that he didn't even know they were gone until a month later when he brought it up to Scott that he hadn't seen them in a while and had to hear from him that they had left.
He yells at Derek about his irresponsibility for leaving a newly turned alpha, one who didn't even want to be a werewolf, alone with no anchor or pack. He yells about the scars he has from helping Scott figure out his control, for the second time by the time, and how hard it was for Scott, who had barely learned to control his wolf as a beta, and who now had the power of an alpha with no anchor and no other wolves around to help him when his control inevitably slipped.
He just shouts about all the bullshit that happened after the pack left. All the horrible things he and Scott had to witness and deal with. Both the mental and physical scars that they now have to live with.
He yells and yells until he's sobbing on the floor choking on all his emotions.
At some point during his tirade, Scott and the rest of his pack had gotten there and so Scott ran over to him and cradled him to his chest with his own tears falling from his eyes.
After a while Scott gets up and tugs Stiles with him and they leave. A couple days later they end up having a long talk about their own relationship and where Stiles' place was between the two packs. Scott thinks that Stiles' place is with the hale pack and pushes Stiles to talk to them and clear the air before he joins them.
Stiles stalls talking to them and the big bad they were all dealing with is taken care of. A week after the big battle Stiles visits the loft and he sits down with the hale pack to talk it out.
He basically says that he thought he was part of the hale pack before they left and that after they left he felt abandoned. Then with all the stuff that started happening afterwards, he started to resent them.
He tells them how conflicted he was when they came back, that all the anger he felt toward them during their absence started to well up again but he was also relieved that he and Scott weren't alone anymore.
When he first heard they were back he had wanted to join them but was wary that they would leave again and he didn't think he could handle being abandoned so he stayed with Scott instead.
After all the drama with the witch, he was starting to trust them more but when they asked him to be pack and gave that speech about how valuable he was as a pack member he got offended. He was upset that it took them that long to ask him when he had been helping them from the beginning. He thought that they were undermining all of his past helpfulness and only asking him to be pack for convenience.
The pack apologize and do their best to explain and express their gratitude for all his hard work from the beginning.
They work it out and Stiles agrees to be pack. He and Scott are still best friends/brothers, the two packs co-exist peacefully and eventually Sterek start dating.
Scott gives Derek the shovel talk while the sheriff just stands in the background drinking coffee and congratulates them.
Happy ending all around. Eli does in fact grow up with two packs protecting him and is very badly influenced by both of them.
