Mother Muse Monday!!! So I thought there was something wrong with me until I saw the stories of other mum's who felt the same way but were able to get over it and move on. Staging a full-time come back to the work scene has been pretty daunting🤦, so many things have changed out there just as much as they have changed in my life as a mum👩👧👧. Feels like I've been left behind. Am I suffering from brain drain or what? While I may be going through all these emotional saga ............ One thing is sure, I haven't lost my drive, yes my desire to be a successful mumprenuer is still 100% intact. There's got to be a way out. Does this sound like you? The work scene has evolved and as a result our confidence is been threatened. Can I really cope with work again? How do I ensure that the future shapes up well for both my family and career? In my quest for a way out I discovered that a lot of mum's shared the same fears and challenges but overcame them with the help of God and a good support mechanism both at home and at work. As a mum going back to work you should stop letting critics drain you of energy, focus on helping people who truly care about you to understand your new life. Make sacrifices and compromises where necessary. Do not be apologetic and don't beat yourself too hard when you make mistakes. Set the pace for your kid's and let them understand the importance of living a purposeful life just by watching you. Mid-Week Motivation at SPHINXCREATIVES For many it would sound like a cliche to say that hard work, diligence and perseverance, are still the building blocks of success. Folks trust me this is as true as old time religion. Consider the story of Olajumoke the omo-oni bread (bread seller) turned model that got the entire world talking, a few years back. For a lot of us we may have been interested in the flashy part of the story (her beautiful pictures, by celebrity photographer TY Bello, her personality development training by Sujimoto group and Poise Nigeria, children's holarship from Stanbic Ibtc Bank etc.) Let's talk a bit about the dirty job "bread hawker". We see them on the streets of Lagos every day, they trek for hundreds of miles. On their lucky days they can make a profit of N500. It is this dirty job that Olajumoke was doing. As dirty as the job seemed, she kept at it, every morning she carried her tray of bread on to the streets of Lagos diligently. You can choose to call it luck🤞, you can call it a miracle🧝♀️ or even happenstance🧧, whatever you call it, it met Jumoke on the line of duty👩🏭. I'm not sure Jumoke would have photobombed someone's photo session by lying down in her bedroom🛌 complaining and wallowing in self pity😪. A day in the life of Mrs D I'm a lagos based Mom of three running a household of seven membership. Gladly, I run a teenage girl organization which is flexible and encourages me to work from the home. Having the kids at home at the beginning of the covid-19 lockdown seemed a bit of fun until the holiday progressed and their online schooling kicked off. It seemed like I got into a daily marathon that literally wore me out by night..from giving attention to the younger two to focus on their school work, creating content & running programs for the organization, juggling up home front, none came easy. Where there was a health breakdown of one, it made the process even tougher. I enjoyed that I got to know the kids better. We had fun at doing things together and enjoyed displaying some African mom's traits sometimes. Created home programs to encourage bonding such as tea party Friday night( where we have open discussion on life, relationship etc), movie night Saturday ( we select movie of the children's choice with lots of chops and nibbles) and dinner time family devotion. There were a few times with in kitchen skills at practicing food and snacks we learn online. With the NGO, it wasn't just about creating programs but now I have a team. With the team, it became easy to delegate some responsibilities while I supervise that it got done. Though that sometimes isn't a straight road. A pair of jeans and African print tops is a must have for me. It helps me look and feel smart. Here are a few tips that helped me put it all together.. * Learned to generate wisdom and strength from my daily quiet time with God * Created a structured timetable for both house and Me. There were things I could and still do before Sun rise takes over and then I am ready to be a part of their lives and activities for the day. * Had to include Rest. Coco Channel, the daughter of an unmarried laundry woman is our icon for today's Mid-week Motivation at Sphinx Creatives. Life is in phases and each phase comes with a peculiar package. Whether or not you were born with a silver spoon, you can make the best out of each phase of life. Just like Coco channel did. She had every reason to quite but stayed courageous. She grew up with a single mum and 4 siblings in a one room apartment, was later taken to the orphanage after her mum's demise. She learned how to sew at the orphanage and later became a seamstress at age 18 after an unsuccessful attempt at being a Cabaret singing star. Amidst the many struggles and failures that plagued her life this lady was determined to succeed and yes she did. She became a licensed milliner(hat maker) in 1910 and also opened her Boutique that same year. Currently, her brand is worth 1.3 Billion Euros. Your story might be similar, worse or even better.
