Synopsis: Jason moves you into the manor because of the Joker and tensions in the manor grow to a breaking point. (2.1k words)
Jason Todd x fem!reader
a/n: continuing my reader being unafraid to fight Bruce propaganda, also Dick being a supportive brother (in law). This one I wrote a while ago, but Iâm decently happy with it, I hope yâall enjoy! (Nessie is your cat btw)
Warnings: no beta read, Gotham, Joker mentions (and all that come with that), swearing/harsh language (itâs Jason), mentions of blood and guns, Bruce being slightly difficult, a little angsty, may be a little OOC

It started small, it always did. Jason was a little more closed off, a little more tense. You didn't push him for an explanation, you never did, which only made him feel worse.
You knew that the Joker was part of it, having heard through both civilian and vigilante channels that he was more active lately, and far too close to your apartment for comfort. That led to Jason practically begging you to stay at the manor for a while.
And so you did, not pushing back because you knew it was just for his peace of mind.
You packed up Nessie and any essentials. It wasn't an especially hard adjustment, but came with its own struggles. Jason was being more protective, you were rarely without him during the day, and someone was always around during his patrol shifts.
His siblings tried not to be overbearing, but everyone was worried, and they wanted to be careful around you and Jason. Most of them really didn't know how to approach you, the circumstance surrounding the situation didn't exactly make for easy conversation.
You found things to do though, you still went to work, wanting to maintain some normalcy in the midst of all the struggles. Jason often accompanied you to your job at the local library, he'd sit in a corner, usually with a coffee, and read.
But during patrols, when Jason was gone, you'd either curl up on a couch in the main living room or do small tasks. You'd help Alfred when you could get away with it, but he was reluctant to accept help. You began to read more, crocheting when your hands weren't shaky with nerves or simply excess energy.
It went on for a couple weeks, and tonight was your sixteenth night at the manor. Jason had patrol so Cass was sitting with you, at Jason's request. You'd had a conversation with her, but it hadn't lasted very long. So you were now reading, though you were only half paying attention to the story. Jason had been gone a while, and you were starting to get anxious.
Then you heard raised voices, they were muffled slightly by distance, but you could tell that one of them was Jason. You stood instantly, setting the book to the side, and started moving towards the Cave entrance, entering the study and making your way through the entrance down to the cave, vaguely aware of Cass's soft footsteps behind you.
The closer that you go to the bottom of the stairs, the louder the voices got. You could definitively pick out Jason and Bruce's voices, and Dick trying to deescalate the argument, without much success.
"Jason." You called out softly as you reached the bottom of the steps, and he immediately quieted, and slowly turned towards you, moving to meet you halfway.
Jason was obviously distressed, he had removed his helmet, and the mask under it, but remained in the rest of his armor. His face was slightly flushed, a mix of anger and annoyance, and he looked close to actually breaking down from frustration.
Your hands hovered over his shoulders hesitantly, but only for a couple silent seconds before he buried his head in the space between your neck and shoulders, arms wrapping around you securely.
"You shouldn't be down here." He mumbled softly, but the others nearby could definitely still hear him.
"And you shouldn't be yelling." You replied gently, wrapping you arms around him. Even though you said the words to Jason, the pointed look you were giving Bruce from over Jason's shoulder spoke volumes
Then you heard a throat clearing to your side.
"Jason."
It was Dick, and, given his tone, he was worried. He didn't reach out to his little brother physically, but stood nearby, trying to be supportive.
"I'm not going out there again." Jason cut him off, his voice louder, more tense. "If B is going to kick me out of the field, and make me come to this fucking house, then I'm staying here, with them."
"I know, I don't expect you to." Dick sighed, taking a small step back, not wanting to push for the moment, and you could see his movement from out of the corner of your eye.
"Jason, I didn't pull you from patrol without reason." Bruce spoke up gently from across the cave, and you could see that his whole body was tense.
You made a face only vaguely directed at Bruce, a mix of an eye roll and slight acceptance, but you didn't say anything, letting Jason speak for himself for the moment.
"Kinda fucking seemed that way." Jason scoffed, pulling back slightly, kissing your temple, but keeping his arms around you, reluctantly looking over at Bruce.
"The Joker was present." Bruce stated simply, as if that was an explanation enough for his actions and orders.
You sucked in a harsh breath, but Jason just huffed in annoyance and frustration.
"I don't completely shut down at the sight of him, I can manage myself enough to not go catatonic immediately." He insisted, arms around you tightening. "And I have enough self control to not shoot his brains out on the spot."
"It still wouldn't be a good idea." Bruce responded, doubt creeping into his voice slightly, but he tried to hide it.
Bruce took a few steps toward Jason, every word and movement thick with thinly veiled tension.
"And everything that could go wrong was simply avoided by sending you home." He added after a moment, glancing over at you briefly when you made a small sound of annoyance.
"But I'm not home, in fact, the fucking Joker is closer to my home than I am." Jason retorted, snapping slightly, pulling you behind him as his adoptive father continued to move towards him. "Don't act like it wasn't because you don't trust me."
Bruce didn't refute the accusation, and, noticing Jason's stance around you, he paused his movements.
"Jasonâ" He started with a small sigh.
"Bruce." You cut him off firmly, already subtly guiding Jason towards the stairs slowly with gentleness. "Don't start a fight tonight. No one will get anything good out of it."
You paused slightly, glancing over at Jason's congregated siblings, gaze locking in on Dick, who had a small look of guilt creeping into his expression.
"What ever else is out there you and the others can handle for tonight." You said, addressing everyone in the Cave at large. "Without Jason."
Bruce said your name firmly, as if to try and stop you, and you felt Jason tense under your palms.
Jason stopped, you gave him another small push forward, as if to encourage him to continue up the stairs, but he didn't budge.
"Don't talk to her like that." Jason finally spoke up, watching his adoptive father carefully.
You turned to Bruce, expecting a fight, or for him to lecture you, but you instead found a tired frustration in his eyes. It was as if he was trying to nonverbally get you to understand why he'd done what he had.
"I'm notâ" Bruce started with more thinly veiled frustration in his voice, but his tone had softened slightly.
"I know." You interrupted the two of them, sending Bruce a look that simply said to let it go for the night.
"Let's just talk tomorrow morning, when we all have clear heads." You continued, you saw Dick nod in agreement out of the corner of your eyes.
Bruce's shoulders relaxed slightly, he also nodded in acceptance.
"Thanks." You mumbled softly, giving him a small smile before you turned to face Jason, who was still watching Bruce intensely.
"Go Jason." You said softly to him, quietly enough that only he heard you. "He isn't upset at us. You can go upstairs."
Jason nodded slowly, gaze sliding from Bruce to you before he looked ahead of him, once again moving to the stairs, with you subtly leading him.
He was led easily, a small smile forming on his face as he followed you, letting you lead him all the way to his room before speaking.
"Thank you." He said softly as he pushed the door open for you, letting it close behind the two of you.
"Of course." You hummed as if it truly were that simple. "You needed out, and I'm not scared of him."
He huffed a small laugh as he started to shed his remaining armor, which you collected as he redressed.
"I'll bring this back down to the Cave, you get comfortable." You said giving his a quick kiss on the cheek.
"Ya sure you wanna?" He asked softly, watching you carefully. "You don't have to y'know."
"Yeah, I'm sure. It'll be fine." You said with a nod. "Now get comfortable, don't make me force you to."
"Yes ma'am." He said with a slight smile, the frustration and anger from earlier mostly forgotten in the moment.
You gave him another quick kiss, this time on the lips, before taking the armor and slipping out of the room.
You moved to the Cave quickly, wanting to get back to Jason as soon as possible, and as you reentered Alfred appeared beside you almost magically, taking the armor easily with a small nod of acknowledgement.
You smiled slightly, and turned to leave, not wanting to restart the argument, when you heard the sound of Dick clearing his throat to your left.
You turned, automatically stiffening out of instinct, even if you knew he wasn't one to fight, especially with you, and even more so about Jason.
"How is he?" He asked finally, obviously referring to his younger brother. "I know nights after the Joker can be roughââ
"He'll be fine." You reassured him, relaxing slightly. "Just needs some rest, and for someone to be there for him, and with him."
"Which you can do." Dick mumbled under his breath, mostly to himself, as reassurance.
"I can." You reaffirm with a small nod. "He's in good hands, trust me."
"I do." Dick responded easily, as if he wouldn't question that. "JustâŠlet him know I'll take care of the Bowery and Park Row tonight, and for however long he needs me to."
"I will." You said with a small nod, ready to move back up the stairs when Dick spoke again.
"Tell him that if he needs out of Gotham for a while, no one would blame him, we can handle it." He paused before adding. "and that I'm just worried, and care about him."
You smiled slightly, nodding again, and moving to give Dick a quick hug.
"I'll let him know, thank you Dick." You said as you pulled back. "See you tomorrow, be safe."
"I will, see ya." He said with a small hum as he watched you go back up the stairs into the manor.
You walked back to Jason's room quickly, thinking over your conversation with Dick as you reached the door and pushed in softly.
Jason's eyes moved to you as you entered, he was sitting up on the bed, leaning back against the headboard, one single lamp illuminating the room.
"Hey." You hummed as you shed your cardigan and slid into bed next to him. "Dick said to let you know he's taking care of your territory tonight, and that if you need out of Gotham for a while they'll be fine."
"Of course he did." Jason huffed slightly. "He's good at that, being there for people."
You hummed in response, nodding slightly.
"You think you'll leave for a while?" You asked softly, looking up at him.
"No, not if you aren't coming with me, and I know that's a little difficult between your job and college." He said, shaking his head slightly, his eyes meeting yours.
You smiled slightly, leaning up to kiss him, relaxing in the moment before you pulled back.
"As much as I love and appreciate the sentiment, going somewhere else might be good for you." You hummed with a small smile. "And I'm sure I could get some time off, if it really matters that I'm there."
"It does." Jason insisted, causing you to laugh lightly. "But I'll think about it, if you really think it'd be good for me."
"I do." You confirmed with a nod. "but I also think rest would help, so sleep on it."
You reached over to click off the lamp, and Jason let you, pulling up the blankets slightly to help you both slip under them fully.
"Love you." He hummed softly, placing a kiss on your shoulder as his arms slipped around you, letting you relax into him more.
"I love you too." You said quietly as you felt his breathing slow and his body relax as he fell asleep almost remarkably quick, with you not far after him.

All Jason wanted was one night, just one night to go out on a date with you and to relax. He'd practically hounded Bruce for the night off, with almost no expectation of getting it over his brothers, or even over any plans that Bruce mightâve had.
Bruce had drawn it out, he always knew he was going to try and give Jason the night off, but he didn't want to promise him the night prematurely.
Yet somehow he still had.
Jason had gotten ready, he was all dressed up nice, and excited for once to go do something. You were almost done, moving around the bedroom, dressed, and putting on the finishing touches when he got the call.
He groaned almost immediately upon seeing who it was, Dick, who almost certainly also had plans and wouldn't be calling unless something had come up.
"What is it." Jason demanded rather than asked, and Dick only sighed in response.
"Some Riddler thing." Dick responded, annoyance obvious in his tone. "I don't really know, B called me and told me to tell you that we have a threat from Riddler. So cancel any plans."
"Yeah, yeah. Of fucking course this shit happens on my first night off in months." Jason grumbled, glancing at the bedroom doorway, where you stood with quiet acceptance on your face.
"Tell me about it." Dick said, Jason could practically hear the eye roll. "Anyway, give the missus my apologies, tell her Kori is now free if they want to do something."
"Will do." Jason accepted with a sigh. "See ya."
With the goodbye he hung up and turned to you, guilt already on his face.
"I'm sorry-" He started, moving towards you carefully.
"Don't." You cut him off with a smile, hands reaching up to his shoulder, and his hands landed on your waist almost automatically. "It's okay, I understand."
He sighed for what felt like the hundredth time that night, head tilting back, and nodding slightly in a final acceptance.
"Dick says Kori is free if you wanna hang out." Jason said finally, looking back down at you and pulling back slightly. "I'll be back as soon as I can. Maybe we could still watch a movie or something.â
You hummed in response, letting him move past you into the bedroom, watching him pull off his suit jacket and move to grab his gear.
Jason was out of the suit and into the armor in record time, moving to stand in front of you again with another lingering look at you all dressed up.
"Be safe." You said as you leaned up to give him a quick kiss, that he tried to chase, but backed down with a huff when he remembered that he had to go.
"I will, and I'll reschedule." He said with a small nod. "Let me know if you end up going out. With Kori or otherwise. You be safe too."
"I'll be fine." You said moving to give him one last kiss before stepping back and letting him put on his helmet and move towards the balcony. "I love you."
"Love ya too." Jason responded gruffly, giving one last look before taking off into the night.
You ended up going out with Kori, walking to a nearby bar. You drank, and talked, giggling about this and that.
You and Kori had a small kinship, both having ended up in annoying situations because of your boyfriend's night jobs and constant business.
You sat at a table, waiting for her to get back with your drinks, thinking idly about going home soon when you were pulled out of your thoughts by the sound of a voice you didn't recognize.
"Date didn't show?" A man asked you from your left, and you turned your head slightly to look at him.
"No, boyfriend worked late, so I'm out with a friend." You answered stiffly, eyes moving to find Kori, who was already on her way back.
"Well that doesn't mean you can't have some fun-" The man stated, and you cringed internally, opening your mouth to tell him off when Kori interrupted.
"She is having fun." Kori said smoothly, setting the drinks down on the table in front of you. "You can leave.â
The man visibly backed down slightly, Kori, as sweet as she was, could also be very intimidating.
You gave him an almost awkward wave as he nodded and turned to leave without saying another word.
"Thanks Kori." You said with a small smile while she slipped into the seat next to you.
"It's not a problem, besides what would Jason say if he found out I didn't help." She brushed it off, a teasing smile on her face.
You huffed in slight laughter, head tilting to the side.
"I suppose so." You hummed, reaching forward slightly to pick your drink up of the table.
Kori paused a moment before speaking again.
"Someone approached me at the bar and asked almost the exact same thing." She said slowly.
"Some people just can't leave others alone."
You nodded slightly in agreement.
"I know that's true." You said with a nod, then paused before adding. "Let's not tell Dick and Jason, they'll only worry and be upset about it."
"Agreed." Kori hummed, nodding as she took a sip of her own drink.
You and Kori hung out for about another half hour before you decided decided to go home, thinking that Jason would probably be done soon and also return home.
Though that decision was mainly just hope that whatever Riddler had gotten up to had been wrapped up quickly and easily.
Kori decided to walk you to your apartment, even if it wasn't far away, she said that Jason would want her to, and it'd be safer.
You couldn't argue with that so here you were now, with Kori walking slightly behind you, but still next to you.
You were about a block away when you heard a thud behind you, but before you could turn you felt something hit the back of your head and the world suddenly went black
You woke up some time later, the smell of mildew and the feeling of cold concrete underneath you were the first things you sensed. Then you felt the heat of someone next to you, on both sides.
You slowly opened your eyes, groaning at the blaring headache you had, and the dull ache on the back of your head from where you were hit.
You looked to your right, only to find an semiconscious stranger, then you glanced to your left and you immediately relaxed when you found Kori's big green eyes staring back, the look of annoyance that was on her face would've made you laugh in any other situation.
Her expression softened slightly as your eyes met, and she quickly began to whisper her analysis of the situation to you.
"There are some men, henchmen probably." She spoke softly, eyes moving around what seemed to be one of the many convenient abandoned warehouses in Gotham. "They are the ones who took us."
You nodded along discreetly, trying to take in the information as you also tried to catch up to where your brain was.
"There are 12 other captives, which is why l haven't done anything yet." She continued, leaning closer to you as her eyes followed the closest goon. "Seven men, and seven women including us. Most of them are awake I think. But they're staying quiet, likely threatened."
"Well with specifics like that it's probably more than just a kidnapping ring." You remarked softly, falling silent for a moment as a goon walked past.
"Any idea about a rescue team? Or are we gonna have to take care of it ourselves?"
"Our...friends are more than likely on their way already, I think it's been an hour, probably past midnight." Kori said, glancing up at the windows by the elevated walkway as if she expected Dick to smash through any minute.
"I'd rather just take care of it, between the two of us we could." She added after a moment.
"Yeah, I think-"
Your words are cut off by the sound of large metal doors scrapping open from across the room, and man entering, moving to the center of the room.
He wasn't especially tall, nor very daunting, but he did have a odd energy about him. He was bald, with a tattoo ring around his head in thin scrawl.
"Happy Valentines Day, though I suppose that you all haven't had a very happy one." He started, greeting the captives at large, continuing to speak as he moved closer. "Seeing as each of you was without your date."
You just groaned quietly when you realized who he was.
"It's fucking Calendar Man, of course it is." You mumbled under your breath to Kori, Calendar Man continuing his monologue. "Feel free to start going at them at any time, I can take care of the other captives."
She nodded slightly, and you looked down to see she'd already burned through the ropes holding her, you smiled slightly. At least you could have some fun tonight.
You focused on using a mix of leverage and a small amount of momentum to reach into you boots, ones you'd only worn tonight because Jason gave them to you, and pulled out the knife that was hidden comfortably in them.
"Guess the Bat paranoia really can pay off." You hummed to yourself as you quickly and discreetly cut through your rope bindings.
You then looked over at. Kori and gave a small nod signaling you were ready when she was.
Almost immediately she was five feet off the ground, hands blazing as she attacked the goons, and a very startled Calendar Man. You quickly focused on standing, trusting Kori to do her part as you moved to the other unfortunate victims.
You cut through their bindings one by one trying to ignore their exclamations of surprise, some to stunned to even process what was happening.
"C'mon." You beckoned them towards the door Calender Man had come out of, looking back at Kori, who was, unsurprisingly, holding her own. "We should get to the streets."
You did your best to keep the group together, and you were having relative success until you came across a group of goons, obviously guarding the exit.
You sighed and readied yourself to at least try and occupy them with only your small knife, but you didn't have to move an inch before the very door they were guarding was busted down behind them and four figures entered, though they more resembled blurs of movement.
You and the twelve others stood in shock for a moment before you recognized the blurs as Batgirl, Spoiler, Batman, and Red Hood.
You smiled slightly to yourself as you watched them, it didn't take them long to beat the relatively small group of thugs, and before you knew it Spoiler and Batgirl were shepherding the other captives out of the building, leaving you with Batman and Red Hood.
Jason was in front of you immediately, looking you over and patting you down to check for injuries.
"Are you alright?" He asked, the worry in his voice almost overflowing even through the voice modulator of his helmet. "How long have you been hereâ"
He hurried questions were cut of as the doors behind you opened, Kori, Nightwing, and Robin emerging, Dick all but dragging an unconscious Julian Day behind him.
Kori made her was to you, a smile on her face, for all the struggles of the night everyone was safe and relatively uninjured.
"Are you alright?" She asked, her tone far calmer than Jason's had been.
"Mhm" You hummed softly with a small nod, looking over at Jason as you added "My head really hurts, but that could be anything from the drinks earlier, or being hit over the head."
"Whatâ" Jason tried to speak once again, but this time Dick cut him off as he handed Calendar Man off to Bruce.
"At least you had Kori with you." He commented, and you saw Damian roll his eyes in annoyance at his eldest brothers words.
"You saying I couldn't've handled myself?" You asked teasingly, trying to relax into the quickly achieved safety
"No, but it's better for Jason's peace of mind if you don't try." Dick said as he made his way over to Kori. "Speaking of..."
Dick trailed off with a glance at Jason, who currently looked like if he didn't get to speak to you, and check on you, alone then he might combust on the spot.
"I think that's our cue to go home." Dick said, turning to Kori with a grin, who nodded in response and smiled.
"Yes, I think so." She said, looking over at you to give a final goodbye. "Stay safe, see you soon."
"I will, see ya." You said in responded, watching as she turned, and essentially hoisted Dick up under his arms and flew right past you, Dick with a big smile on his face.
You laughed slightly at the sight, and you felt Jason soften beside you at the sound, as if it was just further confirmation that you were in fact safe.
You glance over at Damian and Bruce, who were handling Calendar Man, which meant much complaining from Damian as they moved out of the warehouse and to the cop cars across the street, Bruce sparing his second eldest one final glance before you and Jason were actually alone.
"Are you sure that you're alright?" Jason asked, tension clear in his voice. "You said you had a headache, and that you were hit on the head."
His hands were already on your head trying to find where it'd been hit, and you just sighed and accepted his worry as him showing he cared.
"The back of my head, yeah, but I really am fine. At most I have a minor concussion." You said with a small nod, hands reaching up to take his and pull them away form their search, clasping them in your own.
"Concussions aren't minor-" He tried to start, but you just raised an eyebrow, and he huffed, knowing he had no room to speak in the minimizing injuries department.
"'s different when it's you though." He mumbled under his breath, almost petulantly.
You just rolled your eyes, but refrained from taking, exhaustion hitting you suddenly as you relaxed.
You yawned slightly, and even as you tried to hide it, he saw it, and his whole posture softened even more.
"Tired?" He asked, not even waiting for a response as he guided you towards a side door in the warehouse, so you wouldn't have to join the collection of people outside the front.
You nodded a little, taking a deep breath as fresh air, or at least Gotham's version of it, hit you.
Then you started giggling, a hand coming up to your mouth as it devolved into a borderline cackle, you even teared up slightly.
"I was kidnapped by Calendar Man-" You said through the fit of laughter, and Jason seemed unsure of how to react, hands hovering over you before landing on your waist gently guiding you towards the Batmobile.
"Sure was." Jason hummed, watching you carefully. "but it's over, and you're safe-"
"Oh, I know, its just dumb, y'know." You said, wiping a tear as you calmed slightly. "I was kidnapped by a Calendar Man on Valentines Day, with my friend who is an alien princess."
"Seems pretty silly when you put it like that."
Jason conceded with a small smile, even with the helmet on, you could hear it in his voice. "Just wait til we get home to have a breakdown please."
"I'll do my best." You said as you let him help you into the back of the Batmobile, watching as he settled next to you.
"We'll have to wait for B and Damian to finish." He explained, leaning into you slightly. "There was a lot of chaos when we first heard about Calendar Man's stint, so I had to hitch a ride with them."
You nodded as you leaned into him as well, relaxing into the leather seat under you.
"I love you." You mumbled with a yawn, another quickly following it, eyes starting to slip closed as exhaustion and the earlier alcohol caught up to you.
"I love you too." He said in response, and you absentmindedly heard the sound of him taking off his helmet, then you felt the press of his lips on the top of your head.
"Get some rest, you need it." He hummed softly, arms drawing you closer. "You can tell me what happened tomorrow."
You nodded slightly, and you hear absently the sound of Bruce and Damian entering the Batmobile, allowing the sounds of the city to penetrate the calm silence for a moment.
"Happy Valentines Day." Jason mumbled softly, so only you heard as you slipped into sleep.

Synopsis: You and Jason go look at Christmas lights together (690 words)
Jason Todd x gn!reader
a/n: Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays! I wanted to write something short and sweet for the holiday season, this is based off of a real tradition that me and my family have.
Warnings: no beta read, otherwise none I think, itâs very fluffy
Masterlist
As December continued, snow fell, a rare glimpse of normalcy in Gotham, and it made the city grow colder. Which caused Jason to make sure you were bundled up, unwilling to risk you to even the common cold.
But, despite his grumbling and overprotective nature, youâd managed to convince him to look at Christmas lights with you, a tradition you werenât going to let him skip.
He also leapt at the chance to use it as an excuse for avoiding Christmas Eve, and eventually Christmas, at Wayne Manor for a few more hours.
So that led to you being shoved into a large, warm, winter coat, with a cup of hot chocolate in one hand, and the other intertwined with Jasonâs as you walked on the sidewalk, looking at the Christmas light displays, and the occasional tree through a visible window.
You pointed out a rather egregiously lit house with a small laugh.
âYouâd think for being rich theyâd have more taste than that.â You said with a smile as you looked up at Jason, who had been watching you.
You paused slightly, tilting your head with a slight grin. âWhatcha looking at?â You asked with a small smile.
âYou.â He replied simply, the hand interlinked with yours pulling you closer.
âSmooth.â You teased, kissing his cheek before pulling back slightly, looking at him carefully, as if trying to imprint how he looked in this moment into your memory forever.
The tip of his nose was slightly pink, as were his cheeks, from the cold, and the beanie he wore that covered his ears allowed the ends of his hair to poke out in a slight curl. His eyelashes had a few snowflakes on them, framing the greenish blue of his eyes, that were shimmering from the nearby lights.
âYouâre too cute, yâknow that?â You huffed teasingly, pulling your hand away from his slightly to reach up and tug at the white wispy hairs in the front. âShits unfair.â
âCute.â He echoed with mock seriousness. âHow very eloquent of you to put it that way.â
You just laughed and rolled your eyes, and he let out a small huff of laughter as well, wrapping an arm around your shoulders.
âItâs true.â You hummed simply, taking a sip of your hot chocolate. âYouâre easy on the eyes, âs part of why I keep you around.â
âYeah, yeah.â He said with a hum, rolling his eyes again. âIâm sure thatâs it.â
âCareful, if your eyes get stuck like that then I canât stare into them longingly.â You said with a fake pout, though it quickly disappeared with a grin overtaking it.
He let out another laugh, holding you closer and kissing your temple.
After a moment of comfortable silence his hand brushed your cheek lightly.
âYou getting cold yet?â He asked softly, a slight worry in his eyes.
âNo, but we can be done.â You said with a small shake of your head, knowing he worried. âAlfred will want us at the manor soon anyway.â
He nodded, guiding you to cross the street as you turned to walk back to where youâd parked.
You leaned into him slightly as you walked, humming softly under your breath.
âItâll be okay yâknow.â You said softly. âChristmas with your family. Iâll be there the whole time, and if you really feel like ditching we can.â
He hummed in acknowledgment.
âI know.â He said after a moment, looking down at you. âBut I think youâre right, itâll be okay. Even if theyâre going to annoy me to no end.â
You smiled slightly, and kissed his cheek, arriving at your car soon after, where he opened the passenger door for you, which you softly thanked him for.
Then he got in the divers seat, starting the car and beginning the drive to the manor, Christmas music playing softly on the radio, his hand settling on your thigh naturally, tapping along to the music.
You just smiled and watched him for a moment, then turned to watch the snow fall on a surprisingly quiet Gotham, drinking your hot chocolate and thinking about spending the holidays with Jason.

Tonight you waited as you always did, curled up on top of your bed, the tv on in the background, the volume low enough to hear Nessie, your cat, slinking around the apartment aimlessly. As you waited for Jason, you crocheted, working on your latest project.
You didnât expect Jason home for a few more hours, so when there was the sound of the balcony door sliding open in the living room, you froze. It was quiet, no sounds of footsteps, but you knew there was someone.
You pushed the yarn away softly, though if the intruder had anything to do with Jason, theyâd probably hear you anyway. But you padded towards the door, where you and Jason kept a baseball bat behind it, one of the many options around the house for defense.
You gripped the bat easily, moving to open the door slightly to peak out and see who was in your apartment.
Then you saw the tall figure shrouded the in shadows from the soft, but sparse, lighting. You knew who it was immediately, it couldnât have been anyone else.
The fucking Batman was in your apartment.
Your grip on the bat loosened because, as much as youâd like to, you couldnât attack Batman with a baseball bat. He was probably here for Jason anyway.
The thought made you frustrated, but there was a slight joy in the knowledge that heâd have to deal with you instead.
You dropped the bat, it landed with a small thud on the carpeted floor, and pushed open the door, moving down the short hallway, and into the living room.
You saw Bruce tense, he knew you were here, whether he was surprised or not you couldnât tell.
Technically, youâd met the man, though only a grand total of two times. The first time was when Jason dragged you to a gala (you stood in the corner with Jason the whole time), and the other was when Jason had to grab something from the manor, you were there for not even five minutes. Neither time did you ever really speak with him, you barely even nodded in acknowledgment.
So you took a deep breath and addressed him carefully.
âBruce.â You greeted simply, tone even, giving yourself a mental pat on the back for not wavering, even in your pajamas and fluffy socks. âCan I help you, or do I need to call Jason?â
He turned, facing you fully, expression not moving an inch as he took in the fact that you were home and Jason was not.
âTalking to Jason would be preferable, I thought he was home.â Bruce finally decided, shifting slightly. âI donât know what he tells youââ
âI understand.â You cut Bruce off shortly, not wanting to get into what you did or didnât know. âIâll call him, but it might be a minute.â
Bruce just sighed, and nodded, the tension in the room growing slightly as he watched you carefully.
âIâll go call him.â You repeated awkwardly as you moved back towards the bedroom where youâd left your phone.
âI can get him here as quicker than you.â You added under your breath, as if knowing that it would irk Batman to no end, especially because it was true.
Not waiting around for a reaction, you slipped into the bedroom and picked up your phone and called Jason, the motion was muscle memory at this point.
On the first ring he answered, slightly out of breath, but you could hear him relaxing at hearing your voice.
âHey, sweetheart. Everything alright?â He asked
âMhm, everything is normal.â You responded softly, wanting to ease him into the topic at hand, knowing he wouldnât like the idea of his adoptive father being at your apartment with you, alone.
âExceptââ You added with a small sigh. âBruce is here. He needs something from you.â
You heard a sharp intake of breath from the other end, and there was a heavy pause.
âOh.â Jason started, you could hear the tension in his voice. âOkay, Iâll be there in five.â
âBe safe, I love you.â You added quickly, wanting him to be less on edge
âI will.â He said, then paused before adding. âLove ya too.â
Then a click as he hung up, leaving you with your thoughts, and the reality that Bruce Wayne was in the next room over.
You took a minute to gather yourself, slipping your phone into your pocket, before returning to the living room to find Bruce still standing where you left him, mask on, face void of any particular emotion. But now, from her cat tree, Nessie was watching him almost lazily.
You cleared your throat as you moved towards the kitchen.
âHeâll be here soon.â You said softly, moving towards fill your kettle with water and setting it on the stove. âIâm making tea, want some?â
âNo.â He responded simply, stiffening slightly. âIâll be gone soon anyway.
You nodded in acknowledgment, pulling two mugs out of the cabinet, one for you and one for Jason, and tea bags.
Humming softly as you moved around the kitchen, waiting for Jason to get back, trying to ignore the giant figure observing you from by the window.
âYouâre good for him.â Bruce breaks the silence, shifting slightly to clear the window space for when Jason would get there. âHeâsâŠcalmer around you.â
You just shrug. âHeâs easy to love.â You said simply, glancing up at him slightly. âFor me to love at least.â
The slight jab didnât go unnoticed by Bruce, he stiffens slightly but doesnât respond immediately, waiting a moment.
âYou donât have the highest opinion of me.â He states the observation carefully, watching for a reaction from you.
âI donât.â You responded simply, leaning against the counter as you waited for the water on the stove to boil. âI have my own opinions on the way you handle things.â
Bruce thought for a moment about the implications of that, but you continued before he could comment on them.
âI love Jason, itâs my job to be in his corner when he needs me.â You hummed softly as you watched Bruce with a tilt of your head. âAnd if that means disagreeing with you, or any of his brothers, Iâll do it.â
He stared for a moment, then nodded slowly. âGood.â He said, slightly gruff. âHe should have someone.â
You relaxed slightly at that, nodding slowly. At least you could agree on something.
Silence fell over you again, more comfortable than the last. Your gaze wandered around the apartment, settling on Nessie, still perched on her cat tree.
Then there was a thud, head turning to look over at the window by Bruce, and there Jason was.
He took his helmet off almost immediately, leaving the domino mask underneath on, moving towards you quickly, already assessing mood and any possible injuries, though there werenât any.
âYâalright?â He asked gruffly, voice soft enough that only you heard, placing his hands on your shoulders.
âMhm.â You hummed with a small nod, kissing his cheek, leaning into him slightly. â âm making tea, deal with Bruce.â
He nodded slightly, taking a moment to register your words and the feeling of your lips on his cheek, then he turned to Bruce.
âWhat do you need old man?â He asked finally, moving towards Bruce stiffly.
Bruce didnât answer immediately, glancing from you to Jason carefully. âDo you want to have this discussion hereâ?â He started slowly.
âThey know everything anyway.â Jason interrupted swiftly, wanting to get this over with. âTheyâll find out eventually, just get to the point.â
âI see.â Bruce said, watching you cautiously before looking at his son. âBaneâs been spotted over at Amusement Mile, meaning itâs all hands on deck.â
âAnd you came here to tell me that instead of using comms becauseâŠâ Jason prompted, annoyance at both Bruceâs presence and the prospect of dealing with Bane.
âYou wouldnât answer.â Bruce said simply. âAnd your tracker showed you were still homeââ
âBecause I took that tracker out.â Jason finished with a huffed sigh, rolling his eyes, but nodding slightly. âFine, gimme a sec.â
With that he finally turned back over to you, who had finished with the tea, putting his in a thermos instead of the earlier mug.
âBe safe.â You echoed the words you spoke to him every night before patrol, handing him the thermos.
âI will.â He said, the same response as always, taking the thermos carefully. âGet some rest, Iâll probably be out late.â
You nodded, giving a noncommittal hum in response, leaning up on your tip toes to give him a proper, though quick, kiss.
He leaned into it for a moment before pulling back, remembering Bruceâs presence.
âLove you, sweetheart.â He hummed, kissing your temple.
âI love you too.â You responded simply, watching Jason as he and Bruce moved towards the opened window.
Bruce left first, and Jason gave Nessie a small pat on the head, and gave you one last look, before going after Bruce. He quickly disappeared into the darkness of Gotham at midnight, leaving you with a warm mug of tea and in the soft silence of waiting for him to return to you.
