Super random rant about Chinese nicknames but

I don't love it when LWJ is referred to as A'Zhan.

I'm not sure why it just feels so off whenever i see it used it in fic. It feels so very OOC. I mean even LWJ's family don't even call him by his birth name by the time he's grown I really doubt they'd call him (or any other lan) by a cute nickname. It's all prim and proper and distant there is no way LXC would call him A'Zhan as a kid. I could maybe see Madam Lan say it and then LXC repeating it in LQR's presence to only be told to stop.

At best I could maybe picture WWX call him Zhanzhan to tease him.

AND Speaking of WWX, I don't like it when he's referred to as A'Ying either. Never in canon is he called that, closest is A'Xian by JYL. It's all just nuance for how even tho JYL is so close to him yet she still doesn't use his birth name

Also it's always the A- nickname. Never a Xianxian or a Xian'er. Not even a super specific creative nickname either. Literally knew a girl called 没吃饭 cuz she didn't eat rice. Hell my nickname as a kid was literally 金鱼 Goldfish, and my dad's nickname with my extended family is Housefly (but in hokkein).

I could totally see someone (maybe his shidis and other sect mates?) jokingly call WWX 排骨汤 (pork rib soup) for how much he brings up the freaking lotus and pork rib soup he loves so much.

Or hell even a pun nickname for wwx, we literally call him WiFi now. Not to mention in mdzsQ WWX calls him wolf looking at chicken (lang wang ji) cuz that's a homophone for LWJ. (ngl tho A'Lang is a pretty cool nickname)

Just yeah this is really random I'm just feeling a little eh about seeing A'Zhan and A'Ying being thrown about willy nilly without considering the family dynamics and relationships playing about

Pls note tho that I'm very westernized so I may not know all of the nuances and that these are all just my opinions

I've seen some fic where WQ calls WWX Ying-di which just sounds wrong. First of all NO ONE other than LWJ and ppl who want to disrespect WWX calls him by his birth name. This is to show a kind of distance between WWX and the rest of the world and a weird closeness with LWJ.

Even WQ feels indebted to WWX and you just don't disrespect someone u owe so much to even if WWX would allow it. Maybe they did get close enough for her to feel like he is family eventually who knows but ying-di is not it. Maybe wuxian-didi or a really stupid nickname like 'triangle butt' cuz he can't sit still

I also don't like it when LXC calls LWJ didi. As I said before with the A'Zhan thing, the lans are weirdly formal even with each other. Didi is waaay too casual for them. Heck LWJ calls LXC xiongzhang instead of gege.

This contrasts with NHS who freely calls NMJ dage. And contrasts with WWX and JC who don't call each other in a brotherly way outside of being sect brothers at all.

If it's a modern au it's fine tho cuz Chinese has become really casual and no one says xiongzhang anymore so gegedidi is fine.

Although in this context you could argue that madam Yu would not allow JYL and JC to call WWX gege or didi.

But ya if the fic is exploring how close they COULD be go for it it's fic have fun go crazy

Thinking back on this post and actually I'd looooove to see wwx's shidis to call him soup boy. It would be SO FUNNY. It'll be even funnier if JYL eventually gets called soup girl.

might just be me but i honestly dont care if binghe has curly hair or not.

dont get me wrong the curly hair is cute and it helps him stand out against all the other xianxia characters out there but BUT hes supposed to be the typical chinese man's power fantasy.

he's basically the kirito of xianxia so of course he'll have straight hair cuz thats the chinese beauty standard
