“For…me? Like, me, me?” Wade took the offered flowers, looking down at the beautiful arrangement, squeezing the bouquet just a little tighter when a treacherous voice in his head suggested Not for you. It's a joke. He'll take them away and have a good laugh about it. 

“Of course! Beautiful flowers for a beautiful man.” Wade nearly blacked out at that. Peter couldn't be for real, he couldn't actually be laying on the charm like this for someone as gross as Wade. The notion was ridiculous and unthinkable and- “They're camellias.” 

“Huh.” Wade turned around, without taking his eyes off the bouquet, not wanting to lose sight of it lest it disappeared, he walked to his kitchen, leaving Peter to poke his head in so he could follow the merc with his eyes. 

He blindly opened his kitchen cabinet, feeling around for the biggest glass he owned, a chipped beer mug he had stolen from Weasel once upon a time, that had a now almost invisible Corona logo, definitely not something that deserved to have the beautiful flowers placed in it, but it would have to do.

Filling it with water before placing it on the counter and slowly, gently as he could placing the flowers in, making sure the stems didn't bend on the way in and the bow was out of the water. 

“Looks great, big guy.”

Peter cuts him off with a wave of his hand. “We’re getting sidetracked, and what I was saying is important. I can’t take a knock on my reputation right now. I need to return to being a solo act. I appreciate all the assistance you’ve given me, but things are bad enough as they are. I can’t risk making them worse.”

Deadpool cocks his head to the side. “Bad? Things are bad for you? What sort of bad, and how bad is bad?”

“Bad as in I’m broke,” Peter replies. That’s probably more information than he should share, but he’s pretty sure Deadpool will notice once he takes up residence beneath a bridge.

To his credit, Deadpool doesn’t look horrified to learn of Peter’s financial crisis. Or even surprised, although Peter would have appreciated him faking a bit. “Are we talking ‘considering delivering pizzas for a little extra cash’ broke, or ‘starting an OnlyFans’ broke, or…?”

Peter gives a despairing shake of his head. “It’s ‘might have to move back home’-level broke.”

Deadpool allows a respectful beat of silence to pass. “It really seems like the guy who devotes so much of his time to saving people should be getting a paycheck.”

Peter shrugs. “If I’m doing it for money, then it’s a job. What do they call a hero who only saves people for a pile of cash?”

“A mercenary,” Wade provides cheerfully. “Maybe you should consider it. Sure, it’s not pure like the volunteer thing you’ve got going, but it comes with the upside of not having to live in my parents’ basement. Which would be <i>super</i> inconvenient, considering that they’re Canadian, and also dead.”

This isn’t working.

Wade puffs, putting his hands on his hips as he stops near the fiftieth-something omega he’s seen today, smelling of flowers the chubby kid – Ned is his name. Maybe Wade should just pick one up at random and be done with it. At least if he doesn’t mate with him, Charles can find him a room.

“Would you like this one?” the beta always following him asks.

Omega Ned’s eyes widen looking at him nervously, his smile the sole description of a panic attack and his smell bursting of terror.

Well great.

Wade rolls his eyes.

He looks at the price and at least it’s a bit high.

Then something calls his attention… a scent calls his attention. It’s filled with fury.

Wade eyes widen when he looks at the kid beside Omega Ned, glaring at him.

What. The. Fuck.

“Geez what did I do to you?” Wade asks frowning. Because he literally did nothing to this other omega, all twinky and weird.

He’s narrowing his eyes at Wade like his glare could kill, his knuckles turning white on his sides, but he’s clearly holding himself in control – not that he could simply attack Wade if he wanted.

The beta laughs nervously and suddenly a manager is marching to them as Wade slowly stops in front of the cheapest guy in the room.

Wade has seen a lot of defiant omegas in his life, in fact, most at the mansion were, and those kinds were a pain in the ass, but Wade liked them for being who they are and fighting to protect themselves.

This one though… he isn’t even protecting himself. He’s protecting the guy next to him, Ned. He’s protecting his friend.

“Yeah, I’ll take him.” Wade points at… Peter Parker.
