Key West Bike Photo of the Day: Here Come the Warm Jets
Reunited (And it feels so. . . sore)
I’m back in Key West, and for the first time since #BOSEYW, I rode #spike-bike, which was in pretty good repair for having sat at my sister’s for almost five months (just a quick chain cleaning and tire inflation and it was ready for action!) I did my usual Key West circuit to Baby’s Coffee (Mile Marker 17) and back, recalling the final bike ride of #BOSEYW. Since the weather was much better, I felt like this was a great “re-do” of those final 15 miles. I’ll be biking this route a number of times this week, and will post a “bike photo of the day” when I do. Today was all about waking up my dormant biking muscles. Heading out to Baby’s, I rode into a stiff headwind that made me really appreciate the wind-assisted ride back. Check out the route here: https://ridewithgps.com/trips/8602271
Today’s photo is from Boca Chica Key, looking north towards the Gulf of Mexico from the Key West Naval Air Station.
First Long Ride of the Season!
In honor of the Boston Marathon, my friend Ken and I biked from Boston to Hopkinton (the start line) and back again to the finish line. This is the first 50+ mile ride I’ve done since I finished BOSEYW (http://boseyw.tumblr.com) at the end of November, 2015. It’s been too long.

Thanks to Cousins Sarah and Malinda for joining us between Charleston, SC and Titusville, FL. It was great having you with us on our adventure.
Thanks to all the folks who read the blog, commented, and sent words of encouragement.
Finally, a huge and heart-felt thanks to my beloved Spud Kathy, without whom this trip would never have been possible. Supporting this ride involved hours of work a day, and she did it all in addition to her regular job, finding hotel and rental car bargains, securing food, water and WiFi, and generally giving selflessly to the cause. She is also the light of my life, the fly in my ointment, the bee in my bonnet, the cat in my pajamas, and the best life partner a guy could ask for.
Is has been the adventure of a lifetime…
… at least until we do it again (through acceptable states only) in an East-West direction!
Spike Bike out.
I completed the BOSEYW (Boston to Key West) trip at the end of November, 2015. Here’s a link to the blog: http://boseyw.tumblr.com
