In 2015, she was awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom. It was presented to her by her "boo" (as she jokingly calls him), @barackobama. And in 2016, Johnson and her @nasa colleagues, Mary Jackson and Dorothy Vaughan, were profiled in the @hiddenfiguresmovie. 📸 Photo by Alex Wong/Getty Images. - #regrann https://www.instagram.com/p/B89SCR7AG_dGVFmFvapTV9lXeH-n2tNTeW7G8I0/?igshid=efqnfffdcxoa
Reposted from @aurnonline Happy birthday W.E.B. Dubois! On this day in 1868, William Edward Burghardt Dubois was born in Great Barrigton, MA. Dubois l. The Fisk and Harvard University graduate became an author, activist and Professor of Sociology who challenged scientific racism. His work and legacy includes curating the "Exhibit of American Negores" for the 1900 Paris Exposition which showcased some perspectives on Black American progress of the time - directly opposing rampant colonial imagery. (The exhibit was generally ignored by press except for the newspaper weekly "The Colored American"). His most famous writing, the book, The Souls of Black Folk, can be juxtaposed the hand-drawn infographics he created to illustrate the development of African Americans after emancipation (see the book by Whitney Battle-Baptiste). Both illustrate his life-long commitment to the advancement of Black people worldwide as well as Dubois founding the NAACP and becoming a member of the Pan African Congress. W.E.B. Dubois passed away the night before the March on Washington in 1963 in Accra, Ghana at the age of 95. #aurn #aurnonline #webdubois #thesoulsofblackfolk #blackhistorymonth #bhm #bhm19 - #regrann https://www.instagram.com/p/B84Hsb-BvkXcmeP2q-0D_IoBB_fRpHJMb5Wj8Y0/?igshid=5ndkuqb4pi0v
