Phishing is a cybercime where criminals launch cyber attacks by impersonating legitimate organizations, websites, individuals and state entities to scam, doxx and hack into private information / access finances / scam people. Everytime a person you aren't close with / aware of sends you a link, be mindful of the following to avoid becoming a victim of Phishing:
Hover Before You Click: On a desktop, hover your mouse over a link (without clicking) to see the actual URL in the bottom corner of your browser or email client.
Check the Domain Name: Examine the URL for subtle misspellings or variations, known as typosquatting. For instance, g00gle.com is different from google.com
Beware of Subdomains: Scammers often use legitimate companies in the URL, but not in the main domain, like https://secure.pay-pal.com.examples.com/ instead of paypal.com.
Look for Urgent or Threatening Language: Phishing messages often create a false sense of urgency, requiring you to act immediately to avoid penalties.
Use Link Scanners: Copy and paste suspicious links into free tools like Link:

or, CheckPhish , or VirusTotal before clicking.
Inspect for Generic Greetings: Phishing emails and calls often use generic greetings like "Dear Customer" instead of your actual name.
Watch for URL Shorteners: Attackers often use services like bit.ly to hide the final, malicious destination.
