{ ★ } KLAVIER GAVIN.
THERE’S THE HANGING silence in the air when she speaks, and where he’s supposed to fill it, but he pauses just to ponder. She’s not just a fan, no. She knows him. And she knows him in a way he would have never expected. He’s never been in a fiasco in the music industry; he’s kept his reputation, like his criminal record, clean. It can only mean she’s talking about Prosecutor Gavin, of the courtroom. But he’s never met a Nick. And he’s never met her. Only then does he realize that he’s missed his cue. That’s embarrassing. He’s a conversationalist of high caliber.
◤ “You’re not? That’s not a compliment I hear everyday. Forgive me, Fräulein, but I’d like your name so I can recall exactly what we’re talking about here. I’ve been in quite a few fiascos,” he says. “Ah. I forgot my manners. My name is Klavier Gavin. It’s nice to meet you.” He extends a hand for a shake. It’s only formal. ◢
He shouldn't know her, she parted long before Nick’s career had plummeted but when it did, she was around. Whether in writing or in visits, sometimes dragging him and Trucy away from life and up to Kurain for a weekend, she was involved. The name Klavier Gavin had tasted bitter on her tongue for long. Famous rock god and the man who had Nick disbarred on false evidence. Hot-headed as she was, of course her first method had been to blame him and even when she calmed down, she had viewed him with resentment. It was after the trial of Vera Misham, talking to Nick and Ema in it’s wake, that the truth reached her ears and peace with the world was found.
“I’m Maya Fey. I’d say I’m a college of Mr. Wrights but that’s both too formal and not quite accurate.” She was his best friend and yet even more still. “I blamed you for a long time for what happened and I was wrong. I’m glad I am only meeting you now or for once I’d be placed on the stand for something I did do.” Even when she wasn’t blaming Klavier for Nick’s misfortune, Ema had talked her ear off about the annoying prosecutor she worked with but though short-sighted and pugnacious, Maya would let him color her impression of him. So she shook his hand and smiled. “Despite the circunstances, I look forward to actually getting to know you, Klavier.”
