Hoarder Academia is:
Having a fancy notebook that you have not used in years because you don’t want to waste it and are saving it for something “special” but ending up never using it
Buying more and more books, creating a surplus which exceeds your ability in both time and effort to actually read those books
Starting a bunch of writing pieces and never finishing/ publishing bc they need to be perfect but you never actually go back and make them perfect
Reblog with more
- pens, so many pens, ones youve bought in bulk, ones you bought for specfic things, ones youve stolen
- random torn out pages full of notes, ideas, research, qoutes from books all piled up with no where to put them but not willing to let them go
-buying stacks of sticky notes you swear going to use
-notecards, in different sizes and shapes, new ones still in packages, old ones that you spent too much time on to throw away
-a surplus in bookmarks, you know its very unrealistic to have dozens if bookmarks if your only reading a couple books at a time and we both know your going to end up using recipts, torn paper, folding the corners, fliping the book down so you never have to actually close it
apparently the only time i can genuinely get enough work done is when I haven’t slept and my entire existence is being fueled by spite
When they said you couldn’t you responded, “Well now I’m just doing it to make you mad.”
~ My reason for working hard
Destroy your books
Buy them from second hand stores in paperback with creased up spines and folded pages and crumbling covers. Don't just underline and write in the margins of them but draw a doodles in the corners, write your name over it, when you read it, what you thought when you read it have a conversation with your future self through each page or whoever may it after you. Leave sticky notes inside of do list and questions, new vocabulary words you learned while reading it. It doesn't matter because sooner or later the government will crumble, the Earth will burn, our culture will be buried. Sooner or later the book will be destroyed. So why not be God and take control over its destruction.
You think calling me cute, and beautiful is a compliment. Its not. Its an insult. Why dont you call me intelligent? Why don't you call me intresting? Why dont you call me creative? Inventive? Inspiring? Tell me the color of my soul, the feeling of my mind. Am I a strong wind shuffling leaves or am I a light fog rolling in from the tide? Am I the brain freeze you get from ice cream or the comfort of a warm blanket from the dryer? Are you really telling me all you see is my skin? My hair? My smile? If you call me beautiful and do not follow it with mind, or soul, I will leave. Because I will then know that this is your first voyage at sea and the deeps of my waters will drown you. And the ocean doesn't need anymore pollution.
not so gentle reminder that academia belongs to the queer, the weary, the women, the people of color, the poor, the ill just as much as it does the rich, the white, the privileged. if your academia isn't accessible, i don't want it.
Yet more chaotic academia things:
Reciting Shakespeare to pets or inanimate objects, giving the most heart-wrenching, dramatic, and over-the-top performance known to man.
Highlighting only the homoerotic subtext in any given piece of literature.
Writing anonymous complaint letters to publishing companies, for the most insignificant flaws in printing. Just because of their boredom.
Constantly whistling "William Tell Overture".
Getting ink everywhere.
Always needing to pee because of the extortionate amounts of caffeine they drink.
Stitching a communist star to their beret.
80s meets Victorian gothic.
One squeaky shoe.
Making paper aeroplanes out of discarded essay pages, to launch at any and every unsuspecting stranger in the library.
You need motivation to study? Let me introduce you to spiteful studying. When you study a subject to prove someone wrong. When you spend hours writing up notes so that you can get that grade and smile smugly at the teacher who predicted you a lower grade. Find someone to prove wrong, it can be a teacher, a parent, friend or just to prove society that you’re so much more capable then they say you are!
Trust me, it works.
