combined my maxian compilations and added a bunch of clips for one big video. 25 minutes of maxian

#it was bugging me that i had three separate ones and they were still missing shit #clips arranged by upload date of the original videos. i like seeing the progression :3 #probably still missing some notable stuff!! and there's a couple annoying errors in the cut timing i'm seeing now. but i tried my best #going through all of this was really like. man they looooooove each other (╥﹏╥) so so so so many good moments #max #ian #video

i've been thinking about my post where i said max is a whore for the camera and i think i need to revise it slightly - while that was 100% true historically, it's obvious over the past few years he hasn't felt quite the same desire to put himself out there that he used to, considering his departure from social media and his other youtube channels. so in one sense he might've gotten slightly more mature, or more lazy. maybe it's just not fun for him anymore with the state of the internet/youtube these days. whatever the case i think he's still keenly aware of the need to put on a good show by his own standards while he IS on camera to maintain their audience, but he needs the pressure of cold ones as an enterprise that requires output to actually gather the motivation to be there in the first place. with all that if there's one thing about him that HAS intensified with time it's obviously his destructive impulses and i'm wondering how much of that is just his pent up resentment and aggression towards this entire situation coming out when his inhibitions are lowered with alcohol

#to be honest i don't think he's gotten more mature. i think he's exactly as desperate for validation as he's always been #he's mentioned before that youtube and twitter just aren't the same anymore #but i also think he's just more insecure now. he was happy to be on camera and post a million selfies when he believed he was cute #now he's so clearly anxious about his weight and his hair and everything #also if his on-camera violence is actually a result of pent up frustration i don't think he's aware of it at all #and it could just as easily be that he simply thinks breaking shit is entertaining and he's never learned to be afraid of consequences #because he's a spoiled child. he's only ever been rewarded for this behavior #but i think without a doubt his current relationship with chad and disregard for chad's safety is influenced by this increasing bitterness

#i still think about this all the time he was so fucking out of it

the way max genuinely seemed to be seeking revenge for chad blowing out his ear with the wine balloon years ago was a little shocking to me like i get he was extremely drunk but he seemed clearheaded in his desire to hurt chad in a potentially permanent way. it made me wonder how resentful of chad he really is. when he and darcy ran down the list of ways chad has fucked max up during videos i was like okay it's warranted but it puts a fascinating spin on their dynamic when seemingly the only thing bringing them together is their shared lack of self-preservation when it comes to creating entertainment, their weakness to peer pressure, but this alone created a stronger bond than actual affection would have anyway

#the fact that chad has permanently maimed max and max wants to maim him in return is so romantic #probably burned max up inside for a long time that the harm was asymmetrical up to now

it's crazy that when the two of them get rowdy, even though chad is generally the more openly belligerent of the two, darcy doesn't even TRY to control max. like chad will get shouted down until he complies and darcy is willing to get physical with him but when max kept threatening to pull the wreckage of the sleeping pod down on chad while he was moaning in pain on the floor, darcy didn't make any attempt to stop it, the only thing he could do was try to move chad to safety because he knows max is an unstoppable force. reminds of the time chad asked darcy who he was more afraid of out of the two of them and darcy said he was equally scared of them both even though he clearly was more scared of max and just didn't say so because he didn't want to provoke chad

the thing is that max is just a straightforward whore for the camera. like a no limits slut for the imagined audience and for the attention that he craves. he needs validation constantly but he also seems to maintain high standards for himself and for their channel's output, or at least has an understanding (and maybe a persistent anxiety) that the audience could get bored so he needs to keep reaching new heights of violence, further boundaries transgressed to maintain the high. he's getting more extreme with time but this is a pattern of behavior going all the way back to him chugging food colored milk to force himself to vomit over and over again in his backyard, straight through to him now tearing apart the studio while bordering on blacking out drunk every video, he's the same kid that needs everyone's eyes on him and for everyone to be so impressed at his own capacity for self-harm and his lack of boundaries. he's a whore and he always will be

#he also just has naturally violent inclinations and he seems to love the presence of the camera just as an excuse #to endlessly indulge himself in destroying shit with the plausible deniability that it's for the sake of entertainment #it's like as soon as destruction is even IMPLIED it has to be carried out it can't just be left alone #there's something deeply wrong with him

yknow for a while there when max had a bad haircut and it seemed like he wasn't bringing as much energy on camera anymore i really thought that might've been it for my interest in cold ones but this last string of videos has really got me thinking about things

#it's like max is making up for lost time or something he keeps trying to one up himself #i have not seen the new mail video to be fair maybe that one isn't crazy. but man. man. the most recent one was really something #i was high while watching it which probably has something to do with it but it left me with such a fixated morbid feeling at the end #like the terminal cancer that is the relationship between max and chad. how much shorter are their lifespans because of this enterprise #also hello. i feel like a totally different person from who i was when i started this blog #i will say that a large part of why i went on such a long hiatus was because i ended up absolutely despising the fic i wrote #and i didn't want to be reminded of anything even related to it lmfao. now i think i've moved on emotionally enough to return...#god i must've missed so much i haven't been watching the patreon content at alllll

i was actually theorizing about this with a friend recently. i haven't been paying any attention to katt at all, but max definitely seems to have been withdrawing in certain ways. he's not as loud as he used to be, he's MUCH more cautious than he used to be, and he doesn't post anything of his own anymore outside of reposting ads for grog and some scattered tweets. compared to his old output, his old desire for attention, it feels like some kind of actual maturing is going on, which could be indicative. and i mean, it could easily be the case that one of the driving factors behind their marriage was a desire to actually "settle down". weird to think about, since he still comes across as fairly childish to me
