SPIT takes the form of a collaborative project that engages with text and writing through workshops, site specific events, collaborations, performances, audio projects, readings and publishing experiments.

SPIT is organized by Christian Vistan and Emma Metcalfe Hurst in Nanaimo and Vancouver, BC on unceded Coast Salish territory. LIT LIT LIT LIT is the former iteration of SPIT.
Chapter 2 of SPIT on the Radio: Part I of SPIT @ the Nanaimo Art Gallery, as a part of programming for the exhibition Athut/Words Bounce, curated by Jesse Birch. Readings by Selina Boan, Christian Vistan and Emma Metcalfe Hurst. Aired on May 22, 2019 9-10pm on Vancouver Co-op Radio. Part II will feature a reading by and interview with Whess Harman, who also read at the NAG.

Join us on Friday, August 31 at 6PM for an outdoor group writing session at Queen Elizabeth Park.
Writing will take place throughout the golden hour until the sun sets and the moon appears. We ask that you bring your own writing tools and surfaces. Some snacks and blankets will be provided, but we recommend bringing an extra layer to wear as it may cool down once the sun sets.
This event is free and open to the public. Organized by SPIT on the occasion of the exhibition “It’s difficult to put a painting in the mailbox: Toward new models of artists’ publishing” currently on until September 16 at Libby Leshgold Gallery and READ Books.
