okay, this doesn’t have to be weird, does it?  it’s just karkat, same as ever, but the distance he’s placed here isn’t doing much for either of them.  eridan decidedly gets to his feet, drawing just a bit nearer to his old friend, and abruptly gestures to a busy-looking side street just beyond them.

“ yeah, ”  he says quickly. “ so, how’s about we go someplace, go get one ‘a those frothy human beverages or somethin’. ”  whatever they’re called.  whatever they are, they’re pretty awesome.

“Yeah, okay.” Karkat responded, looking over in the direction that Eridan was pointing at. People walked around the area, cars drove by. The environment itself was energetic and lively.

“Should we uh...head off then?” He questioned, heading towards the curb of the street ready to cross.

Remember how she straight up drew a chalk outline for her body before she just keeled over and died

Remember how she made John go on a wild goose chase through the timeline to fix shit and made him do some shit that wasn’t even important just to fuck with him 

Remember how she legit fucking got him killed and Dave had to go back in time and fucking stop him.

Remember how when she first talked to John at all she trolled him so hard and told him she’d fucking kill him and when he brings this up to her later when they meet she just is like; fucking sick I’m so awesome.

It was a little awkward, but only in so far as they wanted to make their guest feel a bit more at ease. They go to get some teacups from the cupboard, and then bring everything over to the island, everything on the tray! Including some milk and honey. “You can, sit down if you want?” Equius smiles to him, taking a seat at the stool, pouring a cup for Karkat, then themself. 

“So, what have you been up to? Most of you are usually busy.” 

Karkat sat at one of the island chairs before speaking, taking the cup Equius had poured for him. 

“I mean I guess you could say I’m busy. It almost doesn’t feel like it though because I’ve been spending so much time floating through these stupid bubbles.” 

He wasn’t actually angry, however. The lack of control when passing through the bubbles can be annoying at times, but he found it nice being with Equius again. He took a sip of the drink. 

“And what have you been doing?”

okay, this is awkward.  well, not yet—but it’s about to be, considering how long it’s been since eridan had last spoken to karkat, let alone actually seen any of him.  one finger taps a hasty rhythm out on his knee where he sits, seeming ill enough at ease to draw more than a single look in his direction from various passersby.  why’d he have to go and pick a public meeting place—how stupid was that?  he curses to himself, glancing up from the questionable pavement stain he’d so far fixed his eyes on, and suddenly, there standing over him is karkat himself. 

“ oh, fuck, ”  he stammers, straightening himself.  “ uh, hey, kar. ”

it’s been far too long—and he knows that, but all that lost time feels that much more tangible when the real thing is staring right back at him.  and now he’s got to say something to accommodate, maybe start to mend that space he knows he’d gone and put between them, if that’s even still possible.  come on…  say something friendly. 

“ you’re lookin’ half decent for once. ”  

Karkat didn’t fully know what to do. The two of them used to be decently good friends but its been...sweeps since they’ve last seen each other, never the less spoken to each other. Karkat stands a bit ridgid, and at a bit of a distance away from Eridan.

“Thanks, I guess.” His voice was still as blunt and hoarse as always.

Equius arched a brow at the other, as their hive was eyed Little horses and horse themed things served as one of the few motifs that were consistent throughout the massive hive. For example, the island! There was a ceramic plate painted with musclebeasts, which held several shades of apples.

“What is - this?” Equius looks to the kettle, “It’s tea, Vantas.”

“Rather it will be after I steep the leaves. Unless you’d prefer something else?”

“Tea? No, uh, tea is fine.” Karkat replied. 

He wasn’t too sure what to do. Not that he’s always been super great in that department in the first place. It has been such a long time and he didn’t want to come off bad, or even ruin any sort of idea Equius had of Karkat before now.  So he stood there trying his best to be a nice guest, and only hoping that this was as awkward for the other.
