I tried to come up with a good title to make people want to read this, but I failed. So just read it.
I think Alison has planned on letting the girls take the fall for everything for a very long time. And by “everything” I mean the Jenna thing, Bethany’s murder, and IF she is A, all of the other murders and crimes she’s committed, too. Even Mona seemed to think Ali was setting them up. Why is the question, though. Up until this point they’ve been nothing but loyal to her. Seems like a book plot line is at play.
I know majority of the fandom hates the twin theory, so I won’t say that “Courtney” really does exist, BUT we can take into consideration the Cece is equivalent to Courtney theory or that Bethany is Ali’s “twin” or whatever you want.
I’m sure most all of you already know the storyline from the books, so I won’t go into that. (If you don’t know then I suggest you Google it.)
But in the books, real Alison becomes the girls A. Here is part of the last page of Ali’s Pretty Little Lies, the spinoff book that goes into detail about the twin storyline and exactly what happened. (If you’re a fan of the books and haven’t read it yet I highly suggest that you do!) :
"As they passed, Ali sat up again and stared at Spencer’s back. She was Ali’s sister, too. Except all Ali felt for her was hate. When you got down to it, this was all Spencer’s fault-and Aria’s, Emily’s, and Hanna’s. They were the ones who’d intercepted her sister in the yard that day a year and a half ago. They were the ones who’d facilitated Courtney’s ascent into Ali-dom. A new batch of hate flooded her body. It was no longer her sister she was angry at. It was them. "
And also:
“Ali peered out the back window, wondering if she’d ever see it again. She would, she decided. She would find a way to come back here, to clear her name. And once she did, she would get her revenge-for real this time. She’d make those bitches pay. She’d make them wish they were never Alison DiLaurentis’s friends in the first place. She didn’t know how, and she didn’t know when, but at least she had one person she could count on to help her carry it out. Together, they were going to make it happen. Even if it killed her.”
So, for one, in the show we know that Ali has started her own army. For what? We don’t know yet. But it seems as if she and her army are now against Mona and the liars. And now Mona is dead, so that’s one person she doesn’t have to worry about anymore. And also I think it’s important to note that in the books, it was a male who was her boyfriend that helped her kill Courtney and became A with her. (I think, I haven’t read all the books just half of them and read detailed summaries of the rest) which could be the shows equivalent of Noel helping Ali, or even Cyrus. And another thing is that in the books, Alison 1. wanted to make those bitches pay. 2. Found a way to come back and 3. Wanted to make them wish they were never friends with “Ali” hmm, sounds sort of familiar, right? Back to the show, whether they did anything or not and whether Ali has anything to do with it or not, the girls ARE paying. Spencer just got arrested for Bethany’s murder thanks to Ali’s choice of words when taking the lie detector test, Mona was brutally murdered for helping the girls, it’s only a matter of time before they find out that Aria killed Shana. Alison definitely found a way to come back to Rosewood and nothing has been the same since. In a way, the girls are “paying” just by having her back in their lives, I guess she’s just that toxic. And I’m positive that they wish they never became her friend in the first place.
I know they don’t follow the books 100% but they do take major plot lines from them and twist then around a bit, so maybe this could be applied to both Ali and Bethany, and maybe even Cece. But it’s just something to keep in mind.
