I’ve been sitting on this sofa far too long just staring at the piece of paper on the coffee table. So many questions are swirling around my head. How did she get my address? Why on earth would she think I’d want to go? Who told her it was a good idea to send this in the first place? I blame her soon to be husband. He reached out when he proposed to let me know that he was popping the question. Said that it would be nice to meet me at some point. Seemed like a nice guy but, I haven’t spoken to my sister since our parents died. I didn’t have the same childhood she did. She’ll sing mom and dad’s praises. Tell everyone what great parents she had. The thing is they didn’t raise her, I did. She’d never say that of course. I don’t talk about my family Sam and Dean have no idea that I have any family left. I told them all about the demon that killed my parents. They don’t even know I have a sister. They’ll sure to have a ton of questions. The only one on my mind was, am I actually going to go? I honestly don’t know how long I’ve been sitting here. I was aware that Jack was trying to get my attention, but I just couldn’t respond. I felt trapped in my own head. I hear Jack call for Sam. Sam wouldn’t know how to break this.
“There’s something wrong with Y/N.” Jack informs.
“How long has she been like that?” Sam questions.
“I don’t know but I found her like this ten minutes ago.” Jack answers.
Sam gently lays a hand on my shoulder.
“Y/N?” He tries to get my attention.
I can’t move. I can’t even get myself to form a word outside of my head. Sam gently shakes me, repeating my name. He tries this for like two minutes before he steps away.
“I don’t know Jack.” Sam sighs.
“What’s she looking at anyway?” Dean asks.
Dean steps in front of me. He tilts his head. He then looks down and sees the piece of paper that started all of this.
“Do we know a Kyai Y/LN?” Dean announces, “Because apparently she’s getting married.”
“Has Y/N’s last name.” Sam notes.
“She obviously knows her.” Jack frowns.
“Who is she to you?” Dean whispers.
I can’t answer. In my head I’m screaming that she’s, my sister.
“She’s, her sister.” Cas suddenly announces.
“Sister? Y/N doesn’t have a sister?” Sam questions.
“She does apparently.” Cas says as he comes to stand in front of me. “She’s locked in her own mind.”
“Can you fix her?” Jack questions.
“Fixed.” Cas says as I regain the ability to speak
“Fuck that was scary.” I sigh.
“You have some explaining to do? A sister?” Sam questions.
He seems upset that I didn’t tell him. I can understand why. They assumed that I didn’t have any family this whole time. I never mentioned her to anyone because I haven’t talked to her in like ten years. Long before I met the Winchesters. I didn’t even think to tell them she existed because I haven’t seen her in so long. I never mentioned her because of the memories aren’t sunshine and rainbows. They were hard times. Not eating so that Kyai had food. Selling myself to be able to afford said food. Motel after motels. Dad and mom going on hunts and not coming back for months with very little contact in between. It wasn’t until Kyai was old enough to start remembering that they deiced to quit hunting for Kyai. Even after they stopped, there were still monsters coming after them. We kept that from Kyai obviously. She doesn’t know that any of this exist. I tried to tell her after mom and dad died but, she didn’t want to listen. She didn’t want to remember her childhood any different. I don’t blame her to a degree. I mean If I could have plausibly deniability, I’d take it. So, I had everyone sit down and tell them to story. I didn’t feel the need to hide any of the details. I told them everything. Going back over how my parents died. How Kyai blamed me because yeah it was my fault. I unknowingly broke the salt line while helping dad move in a sofa. I blame me so I get why she does too.
“Why didn’t you tell us?” Dean questions.
“I don’t like to talk about it.” I shrug.
“What about before Kyai?” Jack asks.
“Before Kyai? I don’t remember much. I know mom and dad were still hunting. I stayed at home alone a lot but, when I was a baby? I don’t know.” I answer honestly.
Silence falls over the room after I said that. Dean kept looking at me with this sadness on his face. I can tell he understood my childhood. Sam didn’t understand. He was trying but I can tell he doesn’t understand. I could tell that Sam was trying not to suggest attending the wedding. Cas was attempting to put to story together in a way that makes sense to him. Jack just didn’t understand. I could practically see the gears turning in his head. I didn’t expect him to understand. He’s so young but I felt like they all had a right to know.
The next couple of days were quiet. I think everyone was giving me space to breathe after our talk. Sam had been popping in more often. He was worried about me I could tell. He used the Winchester concerned face every time he talked to me. Dean helped in his own way. He took me on a drive and told me we didn’t need to talk. I appreciated the silence. Jack had been asking questions since we talked. Which I admit has been very tiring but, I expected him to be curious. Cas hasn’t been around. I don’t know where exactly he has been, but we never really do. No one’s asked about the wedding. Sam tacked it to the refrigerator. I guess it was his encouragement for me to at least think about it. Not like I haven’t been thinking about it. It’s about all I’ve been thinking about. I don’t know if kyai could forgive me. I couldn’t forgive me. Dean was the first person I talked to about my parents. We were on a demon hunt, and I broke down. The salt line got broken and after the fact I had a crying fit. He didn’t understand what exactly was happening. He handled it better than I expected. He held me while I cried. Told me I didn’t have to talk about it if I couldn’t handle it. After I told him, he was upset that I didn’t tell him before the hunt. He would have asked someone else. He was really attentive to me after the hunt. That’s really when my feelings developed. He was so soft. A side to him I haven’t seen since. He’s gentler with me than anyone else. But no where near as soft as he was that night. He held me until I fell asleep. We never talked about it. I knew that was a new thing for him. Intimacy outside of sex isn’t a thing Dean knows. Which is okay. I didn’t except it that night. He’s the one I go to when things are wrong because he understands what it’s like for it to be your fault. Talking to Sam about it was a different experience. He tried to convince me it wasn’t my fault. I knew it was.
It had been two weeks since the invitation arrived and turned everything upside down. I had made my decision. I knew I wanted to go but didn’t want to go alone. Sam would volunteer in a heartbeat. I knew I didn’t even need to ask him to go. But I wanted Dean to go with me. That would be a hard sell. I’d promise him the world if he would go with me. Naturally, Dean is the one I go to with the news. I find him in the Dean cave watching the three stooges. He looks up as I walk in.
“Hey, Y/N. Everything okay?” He asks.
That his way of checking in. The quick, you’re good?
“Yeah, I’m fine Dean.” I say as I sand beside him. “I made my decision on the wedding.”
“You’re going?”
How did he know?
“Yeah,”
“I’ll come with you…if you want.” He scratches the back of his neck.
