Hello!
I quite love your designs for Stephanie Brown, especially the Spoiler version. I like the way you make it look super cool, especially the cute horns on the hoodie. On that note: Do you use Spider-Man or specifically Spider-Gwen design as an inspiration for Spoiler design? At least as a base design?
(Sorry, I don't know how character art works so pardon me)
This got a little buried so I only just now discovered it.
Truthfully, I wasn’t thinking of the spider-people at all when I was coming up with my design for Steph’s suit.
My intention was to make call backs to her earlier suits, all of which feature the full mask with expressive eye blobs, and pull in some of her Robin (the horns) and batgirl (the purple stripes) suits too.
Could the artist and writer that created her drawn inspiration from Spider-man and co? I can’t say but it was never what I was going for.
I’m not the biggest fan of the half mask she currently has. It feels too close to her father’s mask. Then again the comparison is interesting…
i know it's a security risk blah blah but dick grayson should come in third in a nightwing look alike contest. first place is a guy who's only flaw is that he's too tall, even dick agrees he should win, which like idk that the reward of "looks most like nightwing" is worth the risk of getting potentially kidnapped or tortured about it?? BUT second place is a butch lesbian whose gf is dressed up as spoiler, thus giving nightwing and spoiler a solid three months of an INCREDIBLE married-couple bit. they do not shut up about it. they keep saying "oh i have to go my wife needs me" over the comms. "gimme a kiss before you go babe" . they are the subject of "top ten spoilerwing moments" buzzfeed lists. they're utterly delighted and everyone hates them atm. [steph voice as she holds up a camera] dick i need you to be real with me. would you make out with me for the bit
(they make tim take the pictures. he wants to die the whole time)
batgirls
that awkward age when ur siblings start to fw u lowkey
“are you man enough?” but it’s just stephanie brown fighting every day of her life to be taken seriously and be considered as good enough and worthy and feel like she is not a mistake and “you punch like a girl” and she’s NOT her father’s daughter she’s more than that she is and she can do more, so much more and she will show them and instead she ends up tortured to death her last breathing moments being nothing but cruel cold mockery from bruce because she will NEVER be trusted. even when she is about to die

Out of curiosity, what do people think about the Stephanie Brown teen pregnancy storyline?
Obviously from a meta POV, it’s not great, but would you want it expanded on in modern comics, retconned, or just left in the weird limbo it currently exists in?
I don't want it erased from existence, but I am comfortable with it remaining as something that isn't talked about much. Steph has grown and changed so much since then I don't know what lingering on it achieves for her.
That said, if I had to have it revisited I would want it to remain almost exactly as is but actually tell it from Steph's perspective this time. As it stands we get these little mini snippets of her, but the story is mostly told through Tim's perspective, Steph herself doesn't appear in several of the issues during her pregnancy.
So let's actually explore it with Steph as our point of view character. Let's explore how this 15 year old ended up pregnant via a boyfriend she barely seems to like. The fear of having to admit this to her very recently sober mother. I want the weird pro life rant to still be there, but to be reframed to make sense (maybe Steph feels like she deserves to be punished for her 'mistake', maybe she's 15 and has had a lot of pro-life influences, maybe the idea of an abortion terrifies her more than being pregnant, there are options just give it a reason for God sake). Let her still be snotty about the girl at school who decided to keep her child, but make it about Steph's own conflicted feelings and trying to make adoption seem like the superior option to convince herself. How does she feel being the only teenager at her birthing class and being there without the father?
Like, I don't think anything about it actually has to be changed, I would just like if we focused on Steph and her feelings with it rather than Tim panicking at the idea of going to birthing classes.
Addition: I don't want the pregnancy arc to be erased, but I also do not want the kid popping back up. I've seen a lot of posts about Steph's child coming to find her or something and I have 0 interest in that.
nothing like birds of prey (1999) #40 to really hammer in the fact that someone choosing to help or support stephanie in literally any way would be incredibly easy if anyone actually cared enough to try.
“We can’t afford a lawyer” *is friends with the richest family in gotham* (hmmmmm 👀)
1) At this point in Steph’s life (which coincided with Bruce Wayne: Murderer/Fugitive), she had no idea who Batman was. And she didn’t know that Tim was Robin until Robin (1993) #87, which was when Batman finally let Stephanie “join” the Batsquad, and that was only because he needed help finding Tim. In fact, Stephanie even spent all of her time as Robin not knowing that Bruce was Batman. To put this all into perspective, Steph officially became Robin in Robin (1993) #126, which was about a year and 8 irl months from Birds of Prey (1999) #40.
Also, during the events of Bruce Wayne: Murderer/Fugitive, Batman pretty much disappeared and cut off everyone financially, as Tim brings up in Robin (1993) #100. Even if this happened after the whole Cluemaster-crashing-in-Stephanie’s-house incident was mostly resolved, it wasn’t a given that Batman could financially support Steph which she never expected and was acutely aware of (“I can fight crime on a budget”)
2) I also think it’s important to bring up that no one really thought about helping her, simply because they knew nothing about her and didn’t care to (excluding Batman and Tim, because Batman found out that Stephanie’s father was staying in their house in Robin (1993) #94 and Tim was no-contact with Batman).
For the majority of Stephanie’s time as Spoiler (and even the majority of her Robin tenure), she was a complete afterthought at best and a nuisance at worse. Even when Batman was training her, she was treated as an outsider by pretty much everyone, Batman included.

oh well!
I can’t explain how obsessed I am with this fit! 💜🦇
I think an important part of the Steph and Dami dynamic is that Stephanie just treats Damian as a kid. Not a child who needs to learn right and wrong. Not an assassin or a problem, but just how she’d treat some snot nosed kid who won’t listen.
gonna repost old stuff now.. timsteph yay

Stephanie Brown really is the funniest person and has been from the second she debuted. The real reason Batman fired her is he knew he couldn't stand up to the onslaught of her snark. He was afraid.
And this isn't even including her as Batgirl.
(I'm not specifying every single issue here bc it's a lot and you can just go through the Steph wiki to see, but it's a ton of issues of Robin, Green Arrow (2001) #5, Young Justice #30, Batgirl (2000) #26, #28)
Some bonus panels I thought might make the main post too long:
This line is so important to me!! (the whole scene is it really informs soooo so much about how Crystal and Steph’s relationship works and has worked ANDD it’s also so absolutely foundational to Steph herself) but this line specifically makes me think and anguish bc it was just them aloneeee!! just crystal and Steph in that house.. Arthur in prison for long spells and Steph has no siblings and the only family on crystals side we ever hear abt is Steph’s freak pedo uncle (who also was in jail for most of Steph’s life)!! And the nebulous grandmother who left Steph some college money. And it’s just nooo body else there is no extended family there are no cousins or aunts or anybodyyy!!! When Arthur drags Crystl to rehab the person who is left to babysit Steph is a work friend (who is also a pedophile). It’s justtt been Steph and crystal for all those years!!
Except is it rly Steph and crystal if crystal is too checked out to notice or ask follow up questions or help Steph at all?? Or is it just Steph! By herself! Forever!!
