i hate when people ask me really deep-cut hyper-nuanced wibbly-wobbly impossible-to-answer questions about dc canon, such as "how old are the characters supposed to be"

wanna be clear too this isnt even about characters like bart or kon who have complicated ages due to speedster stuff/cloning/whatever. like yeah ok those are objectively weird situations but BECAUSE they're weird the comics do at least tend to clearly spell out whats going on. both impulse 95 and yj98 clearly spell out multiple times that bart is chronologically 3 but physically/mentally 15 because his speeding accelerated his age and he was raised in vr. ok makes sense. now explain to me how the fuck old tim drake is supposed to be in current canon

Tbh one of the number one things I notice when reading Batman is how Bruce uses knowledge of women's identities to control them in a really distinct way

And how he raises his boys to do the same...

Like obviously when we see the retcons in Batgirl year one, this occurs. With Steph as well... And then in another way with Cass, where she doesn't get a civilian identity? Or when we see him bully Helena out of the mask in no man's land??? And almost every time he has one of his boys at his side assisting him

I kinda like imagining that Dick is exactly as sexually neurotic and controlling as Bruce is with him in every other sexual context and this “shrugs whatever” attitude is unique to the conditions of their dynamic.

Once when I was a kid, I wanted to do a dangerous/scary ride and I asked my mom. And she said “if you go up there and you die, are you gonna be okay with that?” And see. I had spent so many years where the unprompted unsolicited concept of death was brought up over absurd little shit and I always cried my brains out and it never seemed to work to make my mom understand that maybe she shouldn’t talk to me like that. So that was like the first time where something inside me shifted from panic to like, *im so done with this* and I just locked eyes with her deadpan and said “yes.” Not because I actually would have been okay with that but because I realized when a conversation wasn’t worth having and just shrugged to diffuse it.

Dick wants his father/brother/personal Jesus to fuck him and in reality it *does* feel a little wrong inside but. Of the two of them like, it feels a little insulting that Bruce should be the one shame spiralling about fucking his son as opposed to well. You know. So rather than give oxygen to the fire he just shuts that shit down because it’s not going to lead to anything productive or satisfying so.
