Those New York days turned to Paris nights in a blink.

Madrid.

As I walk through Madrid I cannot help but feel a sense of nostalgia. I remember. I remember my culture, my people, and my home. It is amazing to walk through this city, in the country that is the origin of my people, and see the same beauty in the walls of the building and the cadences of the pedestrians casually conversing, as I see in the eyes of my father and taste in the plates that have fed me for over 20 years now.

The history is rich. I imagine the generations before that have walked the same streets and breathed the same air, eaten the same food, and shared the same dreams. I wonder what it may have been like walking through this city pre-colonization. I try to perceive the conversations in my head that people shared – the tensions, fears, and anxieties voices. Did these people from so long ago know that they would one day spread their culture throughout the world and influence millions of people to come?

I do not know why I feel at home, for I never been here before. But I do know that I am comfortable here, and I am nostalgic of a world that I have never lived but that pulses through my veins from generational inheritance. This was the land of my forefathers; my great grandparents lived here. I savor this moment.
