Please, I’m begging you, don’t comment on people’s groceries. A well meaning cashier at Aldi felt compelled to tell me, “You’re really eating the rainbow! This is the healthiest order I’ve seen all week.”

I buy mostly produce at Aldi, but it tells you absolutely nothing. Meanwhile, how must the young couple behind me have felt?

Food isn’t virtuous. People eat what they do for as many reasons as there are people. Vegetables are expensive, and need some preparation- having time and money doesn’t make someone morally superior. I don’t care if someone eats an entire container of Cool Whip for dinner if that’s what they want to eat ( been there) it is not for anyone else to comment on.

People have complicated relationships with food already, do we really have to shove diet culture at them in the grocery check out?

You need a certain number of calories to get through the day and ideally they ought to come from something enjoyable to eat. What constitutes enjoyment is going to vary, so hush up with random observations that benefit no one.
